For those of you who can’t access the explicit version or the movie: Mia’s mom overdosed on sleeping pills and locked herself in the bedroom. Mia thinks it was an accident, and the ghost possessing Riley tells her it wasn’t suicide. Mia’s dad reads her the suicide note that he’d kept hidden.

It's amazing how a couple of CZcamsrs made this movie on a $4 million dollar budget and it made $90 million at the box office. I love it when smaller passion projects like this get the love they deserve and make it big.
This movie is a better drug PSA than most actual PSA's. Mia is grieving, finds a drug that takes away the pain however briefly and she gets addicted to it. It starts to ruin her life and hurt her friends and instead of abandoning the drug she starts relying on it more and more until it takes her life. Her lying to the moms face " i know you wouldnt do anything to hurt him" when she is planning to stab Riley in the next few minutes is clear as fucking day parallel to how drug addicts treat the people who love them.

I 100% agree. Dealing with addicts is so much like this. They tell you whatever you want to hear in the moment, I think they believe it themselves at some point. But then they go back to the drug and hurt everyone around them. It's sad. Sometimes they do get and stay clean though. I just don't trust them until I know they're clean for an extended amount of time.
That’s why “CZcamsr” doesn’t mean “hacky video maker”. They were bonafide artists before the film so it’s no surprise at all they were capable of a financially successful debut. Who better to make a film than someone who does it habitually on a much smaller scale. This won’t be so weird going forward and this notion of a “CZcamsr” directing something lucrative on screen will seem more logical as this generation is the first when CZcams came about right when those skills could be honed. You’ll see a lot more of this as this era of younger content creator (compared to prototypical ages of directorial debuts) shifts slowly into bigger budgets cross platform. Plenty of unicorns serve as proof of concept like Bo burnham Or even a more traditional Hollywood studio backed approach like Trachtenberg.

I love how direct the metaphor for drug use was in the movie. The belt symbolizing a tourniquet, the lighting of the candle being the lighting of a drug, and the eyes dilating so much. I also like how the movie makes the addiction demonic and not the one addicted. A+ movie
The fact that Mia has lost her mother is what enables the spirit to lure her in and possess Riley... I wonder what the metaphor is there. Do you suppose it could be referring to how substances like alcohol and drugs can be addictive for people who've suffered some tragedy and/or are just generally depressed, because it can put a Band-Aid on the pain they're feeling?

Yeah he looked in bad shape. Also Riley and co. exited via the exit on the side of the hall. If that was the exit, why would he go up in an elevator and take the light in her afterlife with him?

The water sounds as the "mom" talks is my favorite thing about the whole film. I originally didn't notice it wasn't her mom until the lady was starting to deteriorate.
The hand is such a smart addition to the script. It adds an iconic visual that everyone will remember when discussing this film for years to come.
That eye scene was sick af. The movie was tame until that point made it even disturbing.
I did not expect to see that much in theaters. My dad snuck in my underage sibling because he would be left alone, but I had to cover his eyes for the dog, the toes, and the self harm. 🙃✌️ 10/10 horror film tho

I'd like to point out how cold all the partygoers were to mia's perspective until she volunteered for the hand shake, and then everyone seemingly came to life.

I think it was a good way to show how everyone was down for her to humiliate herself and also they probably felt the same as Haley and didn’t like her.

Seeing as the movie starts off with that exact same thing with it being cold with her dad and making her dad seem like a unloving parent and then warming up when she gets to her friends house, and how the movie ends. It’s safe to assume the movie is mostly from Mia’s POV and that she’s the “main character”. That being said everyone looking cold is most likely how Mia feels herself especially with her seemingly still having feelings for her ex boyfriend her best friend is dating. After she grabs the hand and everyone comes to life that’s most likely her achieving that “high” and starting to have a good time with everyone. It most likely isn’t about her making a fool of herself as everyone else seemed to also do it as well at some point in the movie meaning they genuinely were having a good time with it. It also doesn’t rlly work with all the parallels with possession being equal to drugs either. All in all it was probably just Mia feeling out of place, especially since we know it’s not how the others are feeling as the dad who is also shown as cold is proven to be extremely loving and just doesn’t know how to move forward after the death of Mia’s mom.

When Riley started smashing his face and almost gouging his eyes out the movie really got my attention definitely a really good film can't wait to see their prequel
I found my dad passed away in his chair a few years ago. This movie really does a good job showing what it’s like living with that traumatizing memory of not only losing a loved one but actually finding their body.

My sister Mother passed away from OD, and I can see how hard it is on someone and I never wish that anyone. It really took a toll whose mother that was.
I like that it made the possessions like a drug addiction rather than the conventional supernatural approach, including the aftermath of overdosing.
While I imagine the upcoming sequel will probably delve deeper into the origins of the hand's power, I appreciated that this film keeps it fairly vague.
Maybe a prequel would explore that but I think they want to keep it that way and make more sequels that add lore
I regret that I assumed this would be another stereotypical and boring possession story. I ended up watching it, and it was fantastic!! It could’ve easily been like the other thousands of “kids mess with stuff they shouldn’t have and suffer consequences” stories, but it felt so fresh and genuinely good. The ending in particular was chilling, and I respect that they went there
I’m pretty sure this is the only possession movie I’ve seen that wasn’t somehow derivative of The Exorcist.
@@AMonitorDarkly a possession movie that DOESNT EVEN MENTION religion or demons, we need more movies like this. the whole "demon possesses someone and they need a priest to exorcise the spirit out of them" formula is so boring and overdone. but a hand that lets you voluntarily get possessed by the ghosts of dead people with their own agendas and motives that gives a high of sorts leading to someone overstepping it and nearly dying because of it? now THATS fucking fresh.

The entire movie is already a clever metaphor for drug addiction but what really adds to the punch is that EVERYONE was fine doing the drug recreationally at first until suddenly one of them wasn't. And folks were so worried about one character that they completely missed the fact that Mia was ALSO spiraling until it was too late.
There are so many people out there dealing with addiction without them or even people they know realizing. You drink with them. You smoke with them. You think they have quirks but for the most part everything is fine. And then it's not...
Specifically the person most vulnerable and likely to abuse it. Everyone else is doing it for fun she’s doing it to cope with trauma.

Just watched Talk To Me. May be one of the most emotionally draining horror films I've seen. It's an alarmingly accurate representation of drug abuse in teenagers in Australia, peer pressure, and grief. Coming from RackaRacka, I was expecting something a little more humorous mixed in with their trademark gore. Instead, I got a beautifully crafted, devastating film that resonated with me deeply. Phenomenal film. I hope they get the opportunity to direct more.

People might not care, but there's a Tom Scott video filmed on the Finnish border with Russia that was filmed near the where I live and at one point just had a picture from a highway that's very familiar to me, it's near where my dad works. When I saw that I was kind of spooked, because I live in a fairly small and unnotable city.

At 22:50, she sees the dad bleeding on the floor but doesn't get him into the car and doesn't drive him to the hospital she was going to anyways. Does she even dial 911 😂
24:03 I always viewed her dad as dead in that moment. Mainly because the inside of the elevator was still in light, it’s arrow was going up and the father didn’t interact with anyone or even the elevator itself
I think that was more to symbolise him visiting Riley in the hospital after her death (as he and Mia were close) and also him leaving Mia behind in the after life as he survived
I think it going up very obviously represents heaven and the fact that he would not be able to leave at the same time as Riley with that injury.
She's likely stuck in purgatory and her dad went to heaven.

I loved the little detail that the first time we really get to clearly see her father is the scene where he tells her the truth about what happened to her mom. Any scene before that he was either blurry or just not focused on in the scene

A24 has been absolutely killing it with these movies! First Everything Everywhere All At Once, then The Whale, Bodies Bodies Bodies and now this? God damn, they’re just putting out one banger after another!

I haven't even watched the video yet and I've gotta say the title and the idea are absolutely genius. The characters literally "talk to the hand" which is cursed and makes them talk to/interact with ghosts. I love this play on words and take on a paranormal type movie.
The montage scene is probably my favorite part of the film

This film is horrifying. It is so well made and so terrifying. I love that the creators found success in this project and A24 bought the film. Good for them!
I loved this movie, how it focused on characters, narrative and atmosphere rather than purely the gore, effects and jumpscares though it also has effective visuals. It gets us really invested in the characters, make them sympathetic, and immediately introduces a strong narrative with Mia and her relationships with others. The way it also speaks to really emotional themes like drug abuse and grief, yet also manages to be very relatable and funny, and actually portrays Gen-Z not as stereotype assholes but as these awkward teens who are realistically flawed. Leaving the movie theatre I just felt invigorated, and really stunned honestly, was not expecting this film to be this good, at least for me personally. How the hell a movie can do a fresh twist on an Exorcism is insane.
There is only one word I could use when asked about this movie: Powerful. It really stayed with me after and still has. Definitely recommmended.

RackaRacka had this video on their channel that showcased a crossover between FNAF and Sesame Street. I was terrified of it back then, but I couldn’t help but admire how creatively amazing it is.

My boyfriend and I talked about this movie for days after we saw it. It was such an excellent premise and the ending was incredible!

I honestly love this movie. And after seeing it, I got to thinking about the hand itself. I can't help but wonder if it's an alternate version of The Hand of Glory. For those of you who don't know, The Hand of Glory is a cursed object made by drying/pickling the hand of a murderer who was hung at the gallows. Another version of it is the hand is made into a candle, using the fat of a man who was also convicted of murder and hung from the gallows. Much like The Black Flame candle from Hocus Pocus.
Unlike in the movie, The Hand of Glory is said to do three different things. In its candle form, it will only light up for the person who's holding it as well as make people who see it go completely motionless. While in its dried/pickled form, it's said to unlock any door the holder comes across. There are other stories, one being about the hand being used for a robbery in Spital Inn in North Stainmore in 1797.
After asking a friend of mine about the idea of using a hand to talk to the dead, I was told that yes it is very possible. It's a form of Nercomancy and during the olden days, the Norse would use the skulls of loved ones to speak to them. So that might be where the idea of the hand in the movie came from.
I'm already thinking of 3 or 4 different D&D items.

I watched this movie in the theatre and it was SO GOOOD! Absolutely terrifying and amazing story building without ever being boring.

Saw this movie in the cinema, it was brilliant. It did feel like a sort of student film, but in the best way.
Really really well made. I don’t usually turn away because of gore because I love learning about BTS and how gore is made, but when the brother was hurting himself I honestly felt bad for watching.
Yeah, I can watch a lot of nasty stuff too, but I draw the line at a young kid attempting to pull out his own eyeball. I have to avert my own eyeballs.
I am a long term fan of Danny and Michael Philippou and it’s insane to me that this masterpiece was their first film! There is stuff you can criticize about the movie but everyone can be proud of this accomplishment. First time movie and you get picked up by A24 ❤
You say that at the start but damn you get just as good of an experience watching kill counts especially those scream recounts, you give so much detail on the production and behind the scenes and so much more. Both the movie and kill count are seemingly essential to get the full picture of a film
Watching in this theater completely changed my experience, easily one of the best ACTUAL ORIGINAL movies i’ve seen inna long time! Sucha different vibe and tone compared to what everyone in the movie business try’s to make nowadays
I just want to say I really appreciate how Dead Meat manages to put out both quantity and quality - it's not necessary to upload videos like this within such a short span of one another, but they do it anyway without letting the content deteriorate. It's extremely impressive!

As someone from Adelaide, I love the twins and their content since 2014, when I heard they were making a movie, I was more than confident that they would make something that was out of this world. And boy was I right, they are still toying around with their signature but they are heading in the right direction
I never would have expected it was made by a couple of CZcamsrs on such a small budget, it all looks so professional! Beautifully done and the way the cast is so comfortable around the twins shows what lovely people they are! ❤❤
My sister and I went to see it in the theaters and it was so good. Especially since we lost our mother almost a year ago, we could relate up to a point. It was a great movie.
While I've never been a regular viewer of Rackaracka, I was excited when I heard they had a feature film out and it did not disappoint. Its great to see homegrown CZcamsrs break out into film industry with a project that's well made and stands on its own merits; while also remaining deeply personal to said CZcamsrs. Can't wait for the sequel and whatever else comes next :)

I absolutely loved this movie. It really has a unique premise and execution that you barely see that much in horror movies.

Honestly, I kind of love the less known and non-sag stuff as its letting non traditional horror get a chance to shine and has shown me some stuff I never would have heard of or checked out.

Ngl I was really nervous about how good Talk to Me would be, but it is definitely one of my favorites now! and Joe Bird really impressed me with all of Riley’s scenes-idk how he was able to handle some of them😬
This was a super creepy, well made, well acted film. The openning scene made me *gasp* out loud

i just want to point out how fantastic the opening scene's music is? like it's a previously recorded song but it fades in with these john carpenter-ass synth bass pulses before the party comes in and it becomes a trap banger

Though I believe almost everything they've covered since the strike began has been video games (voice acting is not being struck currently), non-USA films (featuring actors of other unions and with studios not being struck, like how Talk to Me is an indie project from Aus.), and covering USA films produced by studios which are not currently being struck (any not belonging to the AMPTP).
I just appreciate how they're taking a stand with the strikers in a meaningful way, since they can't cover any huge franchises likely to draw in viewers -- and during Halloween, no less! I'm a union actor in the UK, and its so rare to see people actually do anything at all to support us past composing a tweet. It's just cool to see, I think :)

As for if non-union’s better, I think we might need to agree to disagree. As someone who’s worked in both union and non-union theatres/sets, I felt like I made the same quality work, no matter what. But I felt wayyy safer and more respected when I had the union behind me.
Besides- even if it did affect the quality- every worker deserves to work in a fair, safe, equitably paid environment, regardless of field. :)

I was straight up squirming in my seat when the kid was banging his head against the table. On the second hit I was like, "Well someone's never eating solid food ever again."
I've always been a fan of racka racka for years. Playhouse slaughter might be my first taste of true gore. I think this movie was great and dead meat made it very entertaining. Also the sponsorship segments are really funny
I like the metaphor for drug addiction. The characters don't see the danger of what they're dealing with until it's too late, and from then on it becomes incredibly difficult to get rid of. The idea that if you spend too much time possessed, the spirits will "want to stay" is like how it becomes more difficult to quit using drugs the longer you're on them. And when Cole says that the spirits get weaker the longer they're in your body, you could say that's a parallel to the way your body detoxes once you quit - it gradually flushes the drugs out of your system. Even the scene where Jade talks to Haley outside of school wanting to try the possession "game" again comes across like a drug deal. Awesome film!
