- Today I'm using the BXpanded hydraulic test and shim kit. How can you increase the lift capacity of the Kubota B2601? This video will help you determine if you need to, and how to. I don't recommend increasing PSI above factory specifications. Learn how to increase the Kubota B2601 hydraulic pressure if it’s below factory specs.

The Kubota B series are great, but they are small tractors. As you acknowledge, need to be careful with stuff like tweaking hydraulic pressure. Working beyond the machine’s design specs is a good way to break things. When it comes to loader capacity, it’s the front axle and the loader frame that will take the abuse. Of course, it doesn’t matter how big the machine is, we all find ourselves maxing them out!
Nice video Ed. I've been thinking of doing this on my BX and my Grand L. Factory setting aren't always dead on. Watching you might be the encouragement I needed for me to go ahead get the kit and check my pressure. With respect to increasing your FEL lift capacity, I believe there are 'upgrade' cylinders that can be purchased from sites (ie. hydrosplus and others). The larger cylinders will have increased pressure / sq/in. therefore more lifting power. I do say this with some caution, since the entire FEL and its frame were all engineered together. So, I wouldn't want to 'overload' the main arms by lifting more than it was designed for; although there is usually a safety margin built in, so would think bigger cylinders should be OK. The cylinders aren't cheap, but they are much cheaper than another tractor. Love your channel and watch it every day!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments! I plan to leave things alone from this point forward. I think I set the PSI at a reasonable limit. I just need to lower my expectations of the tractor. 🤣
That's a good test and comfortable upgrade Ed. I'm going to do the same in the spring. Thanks, and glad it was only water!
Thanks Ross! Hopefully your cap is easier to access!
Thanks for experimenting. Good video!
Thank you!
I like the roof built out of tote!
Thanks! Here’s the video…

Thanks for the video I had the same problem with my L2501 when I did the 50 hour maintenance. I was surprise when you change the hydraulic fluid filter you just unscrew it and quickly put the new one on spewing fluid everywhere. I lost quite a bit of fluid and put fresh back in and according to the bubble I was good, however after using the tractor for a while the bubble read low and after adding more fluid EUREKA. You are a brave soul taking that tire off.
Thanks for watching!
So I ordered the kit. So I can’t wait to try it. Great info.
Great! Just be sure to make a modest improvement. If anything is needed. Good luck!
I know you don’t want to hear this, but if you want to lift even those smaller IBC totes with firewood you’ll want the L3902 or higher tractor. I have L3901 and shimmed to spec and it lifts the larger IBC totes so well now.
Oh I know I could use a bigger tractor. That’s about the size / HP I’d like. 👍
I have the L2501 and have no problem lifting a full tote of firewood. I even have a couple of the 325 gallon totes and it does them too.
My tractor is factory specs.
Hello Ed. If we had more wide open space and regularly required more lift capacity, I would be considering trading up to a larger tractor. I do regularly ask our mighty little B2601 to "Be All Ye Can Be " and it continually amazes me, and the smaller size really works on our property. I checked our hydraulic pressure and it is at the top end of factory spec. I think our lift capacity as it is , is Kubota's way of saving me from myself. I really enjoyed this video , the conversation it has sparked in the comments, and I learned a few things. Take care, Ben
Thanks Ben. Yes it’s a good machine!
Good video, Ed! If I remember right, my BX pressure was only about 1600-1700 and I bumped it up to right around 2,000. It was a night and day difference. Nice work!
Thanks Lucas!
My new generator is 1700 lbs. its just too much for the B2650 to lift. Thanks and have a great one 😃👍
Phew...Only water is a good thing. I like this idea Ed, I'll keep an eye out for a while as I don't like rushing into things. Maybe wait till spring and see how Ross makes out. Thanks for trying this out and sharing. Cheers, mike
Thanks Mike. It’s easy to test. Maybe you won’t need to do anything 👍
Good stuff Ed. The rear 3 point lifts a lot more than front , I bet forks on back no problem lifting that tote 😀FYI on insurance Mine is paid off next month I received the KTAC insurance letter quote yesterday to continue insurance. The quote is $311.00 for year, which I will pay 😀mine might be higher than some I bought the mid-mount mower :)
Good to know! Thank you!
Informative video. Thanks
Thank you!
Great video. I really enjoy your channel. I, too, have the same problem that you have. I've got a B2601 and can't lift an IBC tote full of wood with the front forks. Fortunately for me, my brother made a set of forks for my 3 point hitch and I can life an IBC tote full of wood with that set up. There are a couple companies that I know of that sell 3 point hitch forks. My tires are loaded with beet juice and I either put half an IBC tote of wood on my front forks or just carry a bucket full of dirt for a front ballast.
Thank you! Yeah we have to accept the limitations of these compact tractors 😄👍
Here it IS; point-blank ,Mr. Ed. With you being a "Leader" & a "Athoritive Figure" with your Successful Channel, you Have to PULL them Shims OUT !! Tragedy & Trauma WILL maybe Become of You ;but "Deffinetly" to your Tractor. It it TRUELY Time for a BIGGER TRACTOR ....but keep the 2601 for all the small maneuvers. ( after all this "show&tell stuff " is kind of like "your bussiness"& just makes sense . Thank you Sir for the Excelent vidio and happy safe tractoring. Best wishes with all your endeavours.
Calm down Nancy
@@jimmaag4274 That's a good idea "karen".
@@donaldstrishock3923 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I guess you showed me! You go girl!!!
Great quick mod!!!
Thank you!
So proud you read the directions:)
I know I don’t have to tell you about safety but use a jack stand, nice video, I will be doing this to my B2301
PS: I just noticed you have that screen for your front grill guard from Messicks’s, why did you upgrade from your grill guard that you made?
Thank you. Messicks provided the grill guard for me to test. czcams.com/video/XvqIcY6jhjk/video.htmlsi=G7rZMWewgqrEywbZ
How's she goin'? This was an interesting test!! It's nice to have the extra lift capacity eh. I hope being over spec doesn't create any other issues in the system. Thanks for sharing this. It's good to know. Take 'er easy!!
Thanks Mike. I think I'm still in a "safe zone". You know we always want just a little more! :)
I hear ya!!@@MyClutteredGarage
This was very interesting and it is good to know if the tractor is within spec, also to be able to change it with this kit. The water was a relief. We hope to be able to join the chat of your live stream on 19th assuming you are having one, it will be a year since you kindle invited us as a guest
Oh very nice, Joseph & Iain!
@@MyClutteredGarage You will have to prepare your British accent 🙂
Was looking forward to seeing the installation of the wheel. Did you edit that out so you didn't have a three hour video?
Yeah, sorry. Haha!
A very interesting video. I am looking at purchasing the same tractor for my wooded off-grid property. Would you still purchase the B2601 or something different if you had it to do again? Thank you
I have been thrilled with the B2601. I would like something bigger with a little more power and more lift capacity. But I think that’s always the case. You really need to consider what your plans are for the tractor to best decide the size and model that will work best for you. Good luck!
I did that with my John Deere 2038R John Deere is a lot more simple than that. I had a gauge I just had to adjust the pressure relief valve and one good thing about John Deere. You don’t have to add any shims it’s simple that’s why I went with John Deere. but great video.👍
Thank you! Yeah I’ve heard they’re pretty easy to adjust 👍
@@MyClutteredGarage yes they are and I’m so much happier with it. Plus I added a Curtis cab with heat and a winch wiper. I am extremely happy great video.
I've been curious about this, so now you've got me thinking I'm going to have to look into this further. Do you know...does the test have to be at the loader valve, or can it be any hydraulic outlet, like the rear remotes?
Also, you had my blood pressure going up when you started talking about that leak...glad to know it was a non-issue!
Hi Chris. I don’t know if you can check the pressure from other locations. I’m guessing yes? Thanks for watching! Good luck!
Hello Chris. I have the same guage that Ed used. Got it from Amazon. A few fittings from the local hydraulic supply shop and I was able to connect it to the 3rd function system, where I would connect the grapple . I was reading above 1950. Page 36 in the manual mentions 1891 to 2005 psi, for the B2601, so I felt that was about right. Hope this helps. Ben
@@whenworkisplay Thanks Ben. I have a gauge on the way. I don't know if I'm gonna install any shims, but I am curious to know what the pressure setting currently is.
Great video. What are the wood crates called and where can one buy them?
Thank you. You can find IBC totes on Facebook marketplace. I found them at a local much company - they held dye. You might like this video too.

Opinion... in spec leave it alone. Older hoses and seals may not be happy. Engineers design all associated parts to be compatible.
It's time for a bigger tractor
Agreed! 😄
Never knew you could do that, wonder if I could do it on my John Deere
JD has kits also. Did it to my 790 and made a pretty big difference. Mine was about 400 psi under max
Thank you for your video. I just think 120 for 4 washers and a gauge is crazy pricey.
Thank you. The cost is $69. Here’s the link. www.bxpanded.com/pressure-test
I don’t know if you answered this yet, but what coupler did you use or ask for?
I them I have the swift-tach loader with flat face connectors. If you don’t have that front unloader, you’ll have to let them know what you have.
I have the same tractor you have
Tell us about your motorcycle. Is it a yamaha fz?
Time to trade it in and get you an MX tractor. (Always easy to spend someone else's money)
🤣🤣🤣
Doesn't surprise me the lift capacity is crap.
I've got a Kubota excavator, it's great anyways they are trying to sell me on a 26 series.
I've currently got a Mahindra 26XL at factory settings its paid is 2500
600lbs more than the Kubota!!!!
