    Great video, nice easy presentation style with a senses of humor... enjoying your videos... will try the 50 hour change myself in a few weeks. When I was younger, I use to be more hands on... but the traveling IT lifestyle has made me “outsource” this kind of work.. Getting the forested homestead and tractor is helping me ground myself as I get close to semi retire. Anyways, you are helping me out.

    Just a note...when checking hydrolic fluid level, the three point lift should be all the way down and the loader should be all the way down and the bucket rolled all the way back. This retracts all the cylinders and pushes the fluid into the dip stick check reservoir. If any of the cylinders are extended you'll get a low reading on the dipstick. Then if you add fluid you'll actually be over full.

    You are fast on that filter change!!! I did mine yesterday and lost about 2 gallons of fluid. My oil pan overflowed. I have a mid-mount mower deck, so I had to remove the backhoe and go in from behind. Thank you for the heads up. I noticed that the B2301 and B2601 don't have side marker lights. I installed red and amber button LED marker lights for protection at night. My dealer and the mechanics were impressed. I also mounted a dome LED beacon on an "L" shaped bracket so it will swivel and self-adjust on the ROPS depending on the ROPS position.

    Nice Tractor, I picked up a B2601 and watched this to learn what to do. nice and easy. My old Kubota had 4 hidden hard to get out internal Filters, this is such an easier process.

    As always, great video.
    A few "nerd" tips:
    When a copper washer is tightened, they get work hardened.
    Just place them on a fireproof surface and heat them up with a blowtorch.
    That will make them malleable and seal better, the next time around.
    Another tip is to pre fill the engine oil filter.
    It makes the oil pressure come up faster and is easier on the engine.

      @@MyClutteredGarageI do this with my Ducati. You technically have to replace the copper washer with every filter change, but annealing the washer works just fine.

    A good tip when changing the hydraulic filter first clean the surface, use a clean container so you can reuses the oil as it last 400 hours. Use a funnel to make your live easy :)

    Prior to removing oil cap, I always hit it with a rag and compressed air to remove any debris and I also rest the cap back on top so nothing can sneak into the hole. Bad place for debris to get into. I already spray the drain plugs with engine degreaser and wipe them down before removing them as well. Appreciate the video. All seems pretty straight forward

    Great video, Ed! I loved all the different camera angles. My 50 hours happened in January so I was lying out on the shed floor in the cold. I thought I was ready for the fast filter switcher-oo, but I ended up dropping the filter because I was not expecting it to be so heavy and slippery! Anyway I got er done! I always write the dates on all filters I change, just because! I have read it is best to check the level of hydraulic fluid with the loader arms down and 3 pt hitch down too. Very impressive video.     When changing out the hydraulic filter you can hook up a shop vacuum to the fill port and tape it in place. This will hold back most of the oil while you are changing out the filter. Less messy. Try it next time! Great videos!

    Thank you for this video, I am nearing my 50 hour maintenance on my B2601 and this video was perfect. I’m still a bit worried about changing the hydraulic filter however. I changed it on my B25D before trading it and didn’t lose more than a cup of hydraulic fluid. If your not quick to spin on the new one you’ll have a big mess.

    Very simple and to the point glad I watched it. On the filter removal they make a filter socket that fits over the oil filter face it has a 3/8" female recess for a 3/8" socket wench. I have used them on other vehicles and will try them on the tractor.

    The white Oil filters are great, you can write the date and hours on them very easily. Then you can always do a quick check of last service, without referring to your notes. That is if you can get the cap off of your magic marker. 😆

    Just did my 50 hr service (at 75hrs) and it went well until I got that hydraulic filter. I lost 2 gallons of fluid! Totally blew it. You killed it. Great job! Next time I'm calling you. :)

      There's a vacuum trick that works pretty well with the hydraulic fluid. Take the cap off the back of the hydraulic fill and have someone hold a vacuum next to the fill not totally covering the hole. The pressure from the vacuum keeps most of the fluid from gushing out. If you're alone, some guys tape the vacuum to the hole. Other videos on this trick. Check it out.

    If you have an extra person you can use a shop vac over the fill hole to minimize the oil loss. Shop that creates a negative pressure which stops the oil from draining out.

    Just a tip if you leave the filler cap in place it will slow the initial rush of oil out of the pan, once you have opened the drain bolt then open the fill cap. Keeps the mess to a minimum. Try it , works. Cheers.

    just got a used BX25DLB and the maintenance WAS a bit intimidating until I watched this video of yours. I haven't changed an oil filter since 1971 on my 65 VW bug! I'm willing to try now...

    So great video and thank you for showing the maintenance of the tractor. But I have a few things to point out to make sure its easier for ya. First off they have an oil filter claw tool that can be used on a 3/4 ratchet which will make taking the filters off easier than that tool you used in the video. The other thing is putting on the oil filters on by hand is more than enough. By using the tool to tighten them on will make the next filter change a bit more difficult to remove. Again great video thank you!

    This video was a good reminder that not all the hydraulic oil needs to be drained at a filter change. I was under the misunderstanding that the hydro oil need to be "changed", the same as the engine crankcase oil. Very helpful! If you know, when does the hydro oil actually need to be changed, but I suspect the owner's manual addresses that. This is a good example ot the need to READ AND UNDERSTAND the instructions, a common failure some of us men have. ;-)

      Hi Gerald. According to my manual - yes I looked it up - the hydraulic oil only needs to be changed every 400 hours. Score!     The use of a vacuum on the Oil Inlet no doubt works well. Another thought is before removing the Oil Inlet rubber cap would be to grab the Breather tube next to it and suck a bit of vacuum on it then pinch it off with a clamp. Then go remove the Hydraulic HST filter and likely the loss of fluid would be minimal then too.

    Hi Ed, what I did I bought a Kubota BX hand screw for the rops. There are two of these on a BX but only one nut welded to the B series right rop. This takes care of the rattle and shaking of the rops lights.. Wayne

    I used this video as a guide to service my B2601. Everything went exactly to plan until I did the hydraulic oil filter. Not sure if it was because I had my bucket raised (safety lock in place) or not, but the oil flowed like a fire hydrant. I couldn't get the new filter on as it was instantly covered by fluid and my hands were soaked. Threading it on was a nightmare and I lost most all my fluid. Most was caught by the bucket, but I had some overflow mess too. Next time I'll definitely have my bucket on ground. Lesson learned.

    I like to write the hours on the tractor and the date changed on the filters. Also the nut on the front of the right rops can be used to tighten the rops if you buy the BX rop bolt from Kubota. It is the same thread and has a big plastic handle to secure the rops with no play.

    Two final tips, first if you raise the seat and rest it on the steering wheel you can stand a fill the hydraulic reservoir easily. Second go to your Kubota dealer and buy a thumb screw and put it in the nut on the right hand lower ROP to tighten the top ROP and the rattle is gone. Wayne

      Hi Richard. My strap wrench is probably 30 years old. I think any of them will work. The "cup shaped" filter wrenches that fit over the filter and work with a ratchet and extension are nice too, but you just have to find the right size.     I am at 43hrs and thinking about using a new clean oil pan so I can use the lost hydro oil do you think that is ok or should I just put new back in? Thank you for taking the time to show your 50hr experience.

    I'm a GM duramax technician. The Allison transmission has a magnet that sets inbetween the screw on filter and the filter mount. You will often get a click when screwing the filter off or on as the magnet snaps against one surface or the other. Sometimes it remaines attached to the transmission and others it comes off with the filter. Maybe that is what the click was? I'll need to do the 50 hr service on my B2601 before winter. I'll let you know what I find.

    I hate being that guy... I was taught to pre fill the filter, yet yours is horizontal so it gets messy, I don't prefill these but I always lube the filter gasket and only tighten just over hand tight then back off a scosh, a smidge... makes removal easy and doesn't leak.

      Thanks Gary. I don’t know but I would think not. I think the coolant and the oil temps kind of balance out since the block is heating the coolant and the coolant is cooling the block. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Remove your oil cap after removing 2 bolts.. It won’t drip as much

    Great video. 2 things little foggy on. Why didn't you change the hydraulic, and tranny fluid rather than just changing the filters?

      Thanks for watching, and for your question. The 50 hour service recommends the hydraulic filter and hydro trans filter change only. If I’m not mistaken, the fluid gets changed at the 200 hour service interval. Happy new year! -Ed

    Ed, Harley Davidson makes a plastic sleeve device that goes under the filter
    to help prevent a mess all over the chassis. Auto parts stores may have something like that.
    Don't ask how I know about the mess on the chassis...

      I have cut a plastic milk jug to fit under the filter, leave cap on jug, easy way to empty oil from it.

    Wiping oil on the new filter’s O-ring isn’t to keep it from getting stuck when you remove it next time. It’s to keep the O-ring from bunching up and possibly tearing or not sealing evenly on install.

      That’s a great point. I’ve had my share of filters that had ti be destroyed in the process of removing due to being stuck in place. Either way, it’s definitely good practice to lubricate the o-ring. Thanks for watching!

      Be sure to look at the filter gasket on the old filter. If it sticks to the engine, the the stack of old and new gaskets may seal initially but leak later.

    Hi Ed me again LOL maybe you will agree with me don't you think it would be a great idea if on the hydraulic filter the big one on the housing they were put a shutoff valve so you could change filter for the first time without making a holy mess

      Absolutely, but then people may forget to turn the valve back on. It’s not terrible if you prepare for it and move quickly! 😄

    I'm sorry may have missed, but why change a filter without the fluids drained if you would replace that anyways? Or are you not trying to replace all the hydraulic fluid at 50 hrs?

      I added it to mine and it helps. I also always add rear ballast when using the loader (box blade or other implement on the back).

    Anyone else ever notice that the first read on the hydraulic oil dip stick first thing in the morning is low but normal if you read it a second time? Is my vent blocked? Is this normal?

    Your video doesn't show where to drain all the hydraulic oil. Also do you add oil to the front axle?

      Hi Alan. The hydraulic oil doesn’t get changed for the 50 hour service. But you should check the front axle fluid lever. Thanks for watching.

    Tighten the filter by hand that's all to those that are watching... number one rule of changing oil never snug down the new filter with the wrench hand tight that's it

      Being in maintenance all my life, actually you should take it down to hand tight, then a quarter turn further with a filter wrench. They can and may come loose when hand tight only. Everyone's hand grip is different and may not be enough.

      Cost me right at $115 for the three filters, 1 gallon of 15W40, 1 gallon of Super UDT 2 (used a couple of quarts to replace what I lost while changing the filters) shipped to my door. I already had grease for the greasing needed at 50 hrs.

    Isn't there a breather vent in the HST that can plugged to help slow the loss of hydraulic fluid during a filter change? Looks like quite a bit of fluid is lost in the process so stopping up that vent maybe worth while.....

      @@MyClutteredGarage You are going to loose fluid no doubt about it.....however stopping up the breather vent should slow it down which isn't a bad thing. HST fluid isn't cheap so to my way of thinking anyway to prevent loss is worth while. ymmv....

      There's a vacuum trick that works pretty well with the hydraulic fluid. Take the cap off the back of the hydraulic fill and have someone hold a vacuum next to the fill not totally covering the hole. The pressure from the vacuum keeps most of the fluid from gushing out. If you're alone, some guys tape the vacuum to the hole. Other videos on this trick. Check it out.

    If you used a peace of cardboard under your oil filter and direct the flow to your pan you would not get oil everywhere.

    When you go under anything supported by hydraulic pressure you need to put a physical support under it to prevent it from falling. If an O ring or fitting fails it will fall and injure you. I lost a friend to a failed oil fitting and hate to see it happen to anyone. Do not trust your life to a 50 cent o ring or a 5 dollar fitting.

    Never lift your air filter up. If anything is in it your just letting it drop deeper in the chamber.
