  • The therapeutic relationship is a unique and complex social dynamic between a psychologist and their clients. Therapists ask highly personal questions within the first meeting, requiring immense vulnerability from clients who are sharing their deepest struggles with a complete stranger. Psychologists, however, maintain professional boundaries and avoid self-disclosure to keep the focus on the client's needs. This one-sided emotional exchange creates a strange intimacy. Therapists develop genuine connections with clients but must prioritize objectivity to be effective. While empathy is crucial, therapists avoid absorbing the client's pain, which could hinder their ability to help. The emotional toll on therapists is significant. Constant exposure to trauma and suffering can be draining, so maintaining emotional distance is a necessary skill. However, this creates a challenge - therapists want to show compassion without conveying that a client's distress is overwhelming. Despite the challenges, the rewards are substantial. Witnessing a client's progress and life-altering changes is incredibly fulfilling. Therapists develop a deep sense of care for their clients and genuinely celebrate their successes. However, endings are bittersweet. Therapists may feel a sense of loss when a client no longer needs them, but ultimately, the therapist's role is to empower the client for independence. The satisfaction comes from knowing they helped someone heal and move forward. In this way, being a psychologist is a selfless act, focused entirely on the client's well-being.

Yes. And I've also seen people who have improved with a combination of therapy and medication. It can be quite situation dependent.

I remember the first time I went to therapy when I was around 20. I sat down and said "I guess I'm going crazy. Can you help me?".

Sir, I am clear feelings & emotions are the most contagious stuff humans have to deal with in this contagious world and psychologist is no exception. A psychologist is trained to be objective, analytical and stay emotionally unconnected with the client. Please remember patient has come to therapist only because he cannot handle the flashbacks, trauma etc. on his own due to dysfunctional cognition & hijacked thinking & feeling processes. This is the dissonance that is making the client unable to think straight & resolve his predicament even after identifying root cause.

Psychologists psychoanalyze everybody all the time unless they are sleeping
