  • The SE Kingfisher has a modern signature sound that will grab your attention. Dual humbucking pickups give sparkling top end with a high midrange growl to give the Kingfisher a personality that will cut through the mix while holding down the band with its sweet warm fundamental tone.
Designed in PRS’s Maryland shop, the Kingfisher’s offset Swamp Ash body and neck-through construction provide sustain and evenly balanced tone, while the figured maple veneer adds a touch of class. The 24 fret maple/walnut neck allows unlimited possibilities for your creativity and sonic palette, and the 34” scale length makes this an instantly comfortable bass for players old and new. Kingfisher (4B ‘H’) pickups are deep, thick-sounding humbuckers with plenty of top-end clarity and punch. These modern pickups have a distinct old-school tonal character that delivers that huge “clacky” tone missing from some modern basses.

Wow I own a 2014 Kingfisher in the transparent red. That blue is gorgeous! One thing nobody mentions is they use hotshot bridge tuners and pickups! Which are really nice! That bridge is great cause you can use round wound thru the body or flat wound through the bridge.

And for $1000 USD also give you a maple top instead of a veneer...that’s kind of an insult especially considering these are made in developing countries where the labor is really cheap compared to the USA.

I have the same bass but in natural Blonde. Just be aware that the pickups are effectively a single coil arrangement even though they look like humbuckers and as such their output is generally lower and they are a bit noisy when you turn them up. Dont get me wrong, the sound is absolutely killer but I did have to copper shield the wiring and pup cavities. The other thing I can recommend is to swap the Alpha pots out for some CTS Audio taper ones. Not expensive to do but definitely a huge improvement. I have some very expensive basses but this has become my main go to player. Love it.

My PRS Kingfisher is my number one 4 string bass. Everything about this bass guitar is awesome, except the pickups are not humbucking pickups. They are single coil pickups with a dummy coil. I replaced mine and I still have the ones I took off. Only one row of the magnets are active. The other row doesn't do anything, it is just there for looks.
I have no idea why a company like PRS would falsely claim these pickups to be humbuckers when they are single coil pickups designed to look like humbuckers. I traded my first Kingfisher in disgust, but bought a second and changed out the pickups , wiring, and pots. Now she rocks and is my favorite 4 string bass. But I feel misled by PRS and all the reviewers who have aided in their deception.
My bass is serial number CEO21584. I am not making any of this up.
