    CONTEXT:
On the morning of January 29, 2022, John O'Keefe's body was found on a snow plow in front of the home of fellow police officer Brian Albert. The night before, he had gone to a bar with his girlfriend, Karen Read, as well as some friends and acquaintances, including Brian. Not long after, Karen was charged with John's murder, but her defense alleges that she is being framed by the group of people who met up at Brian's home after the bar closed. Trial begins Tuesday, April 16, 2024 with jury selection.

It’s so validating how the world is seeing this finally!!! I grew up in Norton, figure skated in Norwood til last year, and live in RI a town away from the mass line. This case feels real to me in a way that other high profile trials don’t, just from having experienced the culture of that area for so long, but also the local news has been talking about the case well before the national media got into it. It got so ugly locally pre-trial!!

I think Alan did a really good job with his cross, he called out the obvious "I don't remembers" and I feel like after that actually got some answers out of Colin (not right after), he didn't stay with his cross examnesia like Tristan did. But at the end of all this, I'm like why are you fighting all this so much? What are you hiding Colin? Or why are you so caustic? What did KR or JOK do to you? Which maybe is the question. If this family doesn't have guilty knowledge then what is going on??

Because John got out past the treeline just beyond the property line at 1:31 am. Opening the door is what caused the dome light to come on - and if the car is in park it will stay on few several seconds after closing the door. That’s why Ryan didn’t see John in the car. He was outside on the passenger side and the Lexus blocked their view of him.

Yet zero midsection or lower body damage?

Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if John didn’t get out of the car…..then, anyway. Maybe Karen and John were discussing whether or not he should go in (remember, Karen thought they weren’t really invited), hence the scooting forward, and John finally said “ok take me back to the waterfall then,” so Karen DID leave him there. Then he decides to walk back to the Albert’s, and maybe one of the drunk drivers was now leaving, and they hit him. Or the dog attacked when he arrived bcuz the dog was outside at the time, and maybe John went through the yard. Then he threatens to file charges and a fight happens. Idk, bcuz I think we have tech showing he went up stairs shortly after the suv was shown. And wasn’t the waterfall closed by then? It just doesn’t make sense. I’m def not convinced Karen hit him, intentionally or otherwise. But I don’t know what else could have happened. There’s too many unanswered questions and attempts at cover up. I think Jen McCabe is at the center of whatever really happened to John. Her ending testimony that “Karen was insistent to go back to Fairview bcuz she knew John was there bcuz she hit him,” then the very next witness says Karen never brought up going to Fairview until Jen told her she saw them there. The kicker? This was said over car Bluetooth. My guess is, Jen didn’t know Kerry could hear her say this. She didn’t know Kerry would be able to directly dispute her testimony. 😅😅

Maybe motive will come out when the Defense calls Kevin Albert.
They retrieved his phone and messages as well.
Part of the reason they did was because John O Keefe called the Canton PD over suspicious activity in his neighborhood. Kevin Albert was the person he spoke to and sent video via email to.
Maybe it’s nothing but will be interesting to see all of that communication.

Pictures from 2/11 show no injury to his knuckles, which proves that whatever he did to his knuckles didn't have anything to do with John O'Keefe.
So why would he lie? Even if it was from a separate fight, what would that actually prove in regard to O'Keefe?
He doesn't seem to have anything at all to gain by lying about the knuckles.

The fact that she let them in means bricks may be getting removed before she lets defense bring the theory up before jury.
I wasn't expecting a dent in third party culpability til the defense got to call witnesses. Perhaps cross examination of the Commonwealth's medical examiner at the earliest. • @matthewnewton8812

I would appreciate if anybody could give me their honest opinion about this-
I hate conspiracy theories. Generally I consider them to be the worst explanation for any given event. They make everything seem twice as complicated as they actually are, and apart from anything else human beings are just no good at keeping and maintaining secrets and conspiracies.
Given all that, I went into this trail super skeptical of the defenses conspiracy of silence explanations. But, as I listen to each of the witnesses who are supposedly involved in the death of John O’Keaf, it keep getting the same impression about all of them- that they are hiding something. Their defensiveness, the “cross examnesia” (brilliant name), the pretending not to be able to tell time, the sudden changes in their mode of communication, getting rid of evidence hours before the judge orders it preserved, being combative and hostile to the defense while acting docile and cooperative with the prosecutors… All of this stuff just keeps leading me- in spite of my deep desire not to succumb to conspiracy theories- to the conclusion that these people absolutely must be hiding something.
Now, what they are hiding is up for debate. It may have nothing whatsoever to do with John O’Keaf’s death. In fact, they may not all be hiding the same thing- perhaps each of them have their own secrets that they don’t want the world to know about. Whatever the case may be, I no longer believe these witnesses. Their testimony has lost credibility to me. And the stupid conspiracy theory no longer seems impossible anymore. I’m actually wondering if there is the slightest chance somebody in that house DID do something dumb to O’Keaf. Maybe they didn’t beat him up. Maybe he was drunk and said something awful and someone pushed him out of the house and told him to go sober up, and he slipped and fell unconscious.
Like, that really seems like it might have a chance of being real.
Anyway I am super duper curious what everybody else thinks about this?? I need to know if I’m the only one or if there’s anybody else- not anybody who has believed in the conspiracy from the start, but who started off skeptical and budged from that position over time.
    Anyone? Bueler? Anyone?…..

Just remember that the defence doesn't have to prove an actual conspiracy. They just have to show reasonable doubt that Karen did it, which is pretty much already a given even without the defence's witnesses.

I came into this trial neutral.
I hadn't heard anything about it.
The CW has shot all of their toes off with such a poor showing of boring useless repetitiveness.
One of the things that occurs to me is that the small town relationships have made these folks kinda dumb.
They may be SO used to treating others with contempt and getting away with it that they're clueless about how bad it is and looks.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is LEO collusion in general for other cops. That'd look like conspiracy but not actually be conspiracy.
The CW has not got a good case against KR so far.

      I don't think so. I don't see a cover-up at all. But I'm admittedly a very Occam's Razor kind of person.
As far as the evasiveness of these witnesses, they've basically been under attack for over a year. They have a lot of statements on record, even people attempting to tell the truth in good faith will have minor discrepancies in between various tellings, and the defense lawyers are very skilled at amplifying any mis-statement or discrepancy they can find. These witnesses know that the defense attorneys are big shots, are being paid well to take them down, and they know what they're being accused of. You have to be guarded. You not only don't want to slip and have a mis-statement, you also don't want to lose your cool.
Imo, there's simply too many people that would have to be blatantly lying for the conspiracy to be true. And most of them simply don't seem to have the motivation to risk their own livelihoods to ruin her's and dishonor his. I'm not sure why any of them would want him dead in the first place. I don't think she really wanted him dead, either, but an emotional lover's quarrel ending in one partner acting in a moment of rage is nothing new.
There's absolutely no actual physical evidence for the main claims of the conspiracists, such as O'Keefe ever being in the house or Collin Albert still being there. It's all just based on a circular type of logic that everyone is lying and nothing else. And the story we've been given has come from the defense, whose job is literally to do anything they can to get their client off the hook, and it's all been bolstered by youtubers and media, who are drawing great numbers appealing to conspiracy theorists and the "free karen read" crowd.
The conspiracy narrative simply doesn't add up to me, though especially considering the alleged "event" hasn't been covered/reconstructed yet, I'm not saying I could find Karen Read guilty at this point, either.

To be a conspiracy theorist is to assume conspiracy in EVERY situation or complicated issue. But real conspiracies do happen sometimes nonetheless, and it’s only reasonable to acknowledge when it’s a possibility (with due skepticism, of course). That said, “conspiracy” feels charitable for what I suspect at present was a bunch of drunk people with delusions of invincibility hastily covering up a suspicious (though perhaps not intentional) death on their property.

Can i ask why the judge asks "can you answer that" to the person testifying so often when an objection is raised? Its something ive never heard before in US trials and im from the UK and have definitely NEVER heard a judge ask that. It seems redundant? Surely an objection is to the question being asked and not whether or not the other side thinks the person is able to answer or not

From my experience in jury duty, I suspect the Colin testimony hasn't really made much difference to the jury.
In hindsight, I think a characteristic that describes the jury mindset (again, in my experience) is basically, first and foremost, filtering out information that doesn't actually seem that important. The example I remember most was being on the jury for someone who had collided with a city bus, and the city was on the defense. This lawsuit had apparently been put through the bureaucratic wringer and so it was 6 years old at the time we were sitting for it. I remember the driver of the other car (the plaintiff) testified that she hit the brakes with her right foot, but the defense lawyer pointed out that in prior testimony years earlier she had said it was her left foot. I remember it so well because he really hammered the point home, like he thought this was his smoking gun, like this contradiction would undo her whole story. The entire jury didn't care. It had been years, none of us could fathom why it mattered if she said she used a different foot, the end result would be the same anyway.
I suspect that the jury may well say, alright he's just an annoying kid, that doesn't mean anything. But to that point, it seems like the vast majority of the prosecution's examinations have been about nothing. Driving here and there, seeing a car or not seeing a car, none of that puts a murder in the defendant's hands. Even the "I did it" statements, which feel like we last heard about them years ago, aren't infallible evidence. I suspect more than any one piece of evidence 'winning' the case for the defense, the fact that their examinations seem to actually focus towards a point will be their greatest asset (especially since the burden of proof is on the prosecution, who seem to be generally muddling about).

    • @drewc771
      @drewc771 Před 16 dny +1

I feel like the prosecution has put the early focus on countering the whole conspiracy/frame job that the defense led with. It's the "accident/reconstruction" and medical examiner testimonies that will be the real key to this case, and that's all been saved. They may have wanted to take the time to shoot down this whole frame job narrative up front so jurors can later focus on those aspects as they are.
I believe they've actually done a fairly good job on this, albeit slowly and clumsily at times. I understand that there are people on the internet who wildly disagree with me on this, but I wonder how many of the jurors actually would. Presumably, the jurors haven't been following any media, which has majorly impacted public perception of this case.

    • @hkr667
      @hkr667 Před 15 dny +1

I agree with you both. As a juror I probably couldn't even identify all inconsistencies on their real value because the days are so long and you can't fast forward or speed up in court. Lally's wasting of the juries time should put him in prison for life.
But I don't think the jury really cares about inconsistencies because they will just trust prosecution and the Canton cops/EMTs and think any cover up is by definition crazy talk. If prosecution gets an expert to testify that John could have died because of a car hit, even if the evidence is full of holes, I think there is a 50/50 chance to convict.

I like the term "cross-ex-amnesia" but I doubt the defence will be complaining if any of their witnesses suffer a bout of it on the stand. However, when a witness persistently states he/she "doesn't recall", it probably gives jurors a bad impression of their testimony.

I'm just going to throw this out there--Higgins testified that he left the Albert's between 12:30-1am and Colin Albert says he left at 12:15'ish. Any chance Higgins saw Karen's SUV in front when he left at 12:30'ish and ran into John walking to the house from the street? I ask mainly because it would explain what I currently can't, which is---why did Jen McCabe ask Julie Nagel to send her a screenshot the text exchange between Nagle and her brother regarding him picking up Nagle at the Albert's house? (She ended up deciding to stay and later left with the McCabes.)

And given some time, i thought his testimony was exactly like so many of the other witnesses, much like was pointed by many commentors. But, i have- for the first time , begun to entertain the 3rd culprit theory, and thus the possibility that John Okeefe could have been beaten. That said, i feel that there is alot here that doesnt make sense, and i feel it is because John Okeefe is not really known here inspite of many testimonies. That seems odd.
