@@AmaAndZing lol. It's definitely not a "goofy little V8"... it's clear you don't know the name Steve F'ing Morris. Dude is a _Legend_ engine builder, and not just builder, but engineer... this is _HIS_ engine.... meaning, he himself designed it, from the billet block on up. This is one of his two available custom engineered engines, the big dog, the SMX.... it's capable of of 5K HP.... and not just 5K HP, but 5K STREET DRIVEN, WATER COOLED HP.
This long block/engine is not cheap, you're talking almost $100k, it'll be over 100k once turbos, fueling, controlling ECT are bought and used.
If the gentleman came to him and said "I need a Viper V10 to do X", Steve would say "ok, I'll get back to you when I'm done and I'll let you know what you owe for the development cost in material and hours"... and it would most likely be over the price of the SMX, and you'd have one V10 with a bunch of custom parts when if something breaks, you'd have to wait for another one to be built as you have the only one....ya feel me?
Steve builds V10s, he's built 3k HP Lamborghini and Audi V10s, he's the guy who literally hand developed and created the V16 quadruple turbo for that Devel Sixteen hypercar that never happened....he developed and built the engine and Dyno tested it plenty of times, 5K street HP.
Point being, this is a proven Drag and Drive engine, it's the fastest Drag and Drive engine available, and that's what this Viper is racing in, Drag and Drive.... and whatever else he wants to do with it....but it's a Steve Morris engine, don't ever say "goofy V8" and Steve Morris in the same sentence, go learn some history kid
The reason why Ned went with the SMX engine on this Viper is because he already has an orange GenV Viper from Vengeance Racing with a built V10 and they were running into durability issues at 3300+ hp.
The car is very capable of 5's it's just a matter of getting everything squared up properly and the track having ideal conditions.

@@THESLlCK the SMX here is capable of upwards of 4500hp. Steve Morris is infamous. He can build a V10, has built plenty, but this is practically a turn key engine that can produce 4500+ and be driven on the street, it's specifically developed from the block up for Drag and Drives. If dude wanted a V16 quadruple turbo in his Viper, Steve Morris would've made him one, but his SMX and SML are ready to go big power street ready engines, they're the best, and you buy an SMX, you get a Steve Morris a phone call away, that in itself is worth the money for one of his SMX's 😅

@antilagboostaddiction8322 exactly... not taking away from Steve Morris and the smx it's awesome in its own right... but I can't see any good reason for this swap other than perhaps it was a cost saving exercise?
It's just so odd cause it's not like swapping a v6 charger or Camaro or mustang for a V8. It's like swapping a Shelby gt500 motor for a Ecoboost motor. Or a hellcat motor into a demon, just a big why? Im Not mad just want to know why
@@thehomelessproject3784Only thing I can think of is weight balance and maybe how long the engine last as far as passes go per season. But that SMX is purpose built for drag racing so it's probably just a reliability thing idk. I do know however that V10 is still untapped only reason they don't go higher is because they can't even put down what they have already lol 9L twin turbo V10 is ridiculous😂

Clarification: its not a viper... it is a SMX with a viper chasis. Not a bad choice for a chasis, clearly bad ass.

All this proves is money makes you fast. Doesn’t matter the names of the vehicles or the parts, if you have the money you can cobble together all the best stuff and be a rocket.

@@HumbleHonkingEnthusiast I'm sure you've seen the Calvo builds. They keep the original block and heads in their 3300+hp builds. not sure why they would even swap the vipers v10. it hasn't even been discovered what the limits on those are yet, due to not being able to put the power down.
