  • Proper foot care is especially important for residents who have cardiovascular disease, diabetes or any other health issue that causes poor circulation in the feet. Foot baths can help tense muscles in the feet relax. A foot bath also soothes dry skin and painful bunions. Regular foot baths can prevent some foot disorders because many of them occur due to muscle tension.
In this video, Lisa demonstrates proper foot care on one foot of a resident.

I noticed you thought about wiping off the excess lotion but moved on because the towel was in the trash bag already. Will they fail you for a small step missed like that? Thanks.

Hi Sheri, thank you for watching our videos! Good catch! You only need to wipe off extra if it exists. If there is no extra (in my case there wasn't but I did want to show the step) then you do not need to do it. It is a bit subjective so I suggest you do perform it on the state exam. You don't fail for missing one step. There are no critical elements to the foot care skills so you would have to miss more than 25% of the steps to fail it.

Hi! Thank you for visiting our channel! We do wash hands prior to starting the skill and at the end of the skill. Always wash your hand when you remove gloves!

Hi LJ, thank you for watching our videos. Placing the sock back on is not a necessary part of the skill for the state exam. In real life, we would get a clean sock after foot care to place on the patient's foot, not reuse a worn one.

Hi Diana, Thank you for watching our videos. There was not a trash can on the side I was on so if you look close I actually kept them in my hands, they were not thrown on the floor. They should have been thrown away immediately.

Hi Val! Thank you for watching our videos!
We use a floor barrier to protect the floor in this video using a towel which is an acceptable practice in Colorado. All of our skills are based on the NAACP-specific skills for Colorado.
