Does anyone have any tips for turns on pointe? I tend to go onto demi pointe instead of all the way onto my box.
@@natalielovesflowers xfmnbutfggxddg
@@natalielovesflowers A pirouette on pointe is more difficult than turns in ballet flats (slippers) on relevĂ©. ... However, it is a much more difficult task for a woman on pointe to perform three or more pirouettes. ABT's Gillian Murphy is a great turner on pointe and makes multiple turns with great form look easy. Thatâs all I know
Can you please please please do a reaction to this czcams.com/video/_9DsunPIsts/video.html it's amazing and ballet/ pointe related and it's so funny please!!

I used to have this bad tendency where when I would go up on pointe I would push my left knee back all the way. It really hurt, but my pointe shoes wouldn't allow me to stop doing it. My new pair has corrected that, my lines look way better, and im also not killing my knee đ
Wow that was very eye catching and educative. We are starting points for the very first time. It's so sad that we don't have such kind of shops here in my country đ. I guess next time I order I will have to order with you. I think I will just take pics and send of our feetđ. I enjoyed the video

Yah itâs impossible without the elastic!!!
Not every pointe shoes come with an elastic. My first pointe shoes came with them and I had to sew the ribbons. My two other shoes didn't come with elastic or it was an extra cost. I remember sewing the two elastics on my second pair of ballets shoes and my third one, I didn't have any

It's not an easy path, yet it is very fulfilling -so long as you listen to yourself.

I wanted to be a ballerina throughout most of my childhood, but we were very poor, my family was unsupportive, etc...it just wasn't possible. I love that she also has such enthusiasm for adult beginners getting their point shoes (in another video of course). There's no judgement, only love for dance and excitement over sharing that love with as many people as possible. It's truly inspiring, and comforting for someone like me who, now in adulthood and able to support myself, can at least non-professionally pursue the dream. MISS ANNA PAVLOVA
Great video. Josephine is the BEST! Well worth the hour-long drive from our home to The Pointe Shop. She fitted my daughter for the first time in July and it was an amazing experience. My daughter has been dancing en pointe for two years and has done several fittings, but none were ever this thorough. She even showed her what was causing her bunions (flattening her arches) and advised her on how to mitigate and reverse the problem. And it's working. We will need new shoes soon and will definitely be making that drive again to be sure my daughter has the perfect fit.
Thank you for your concern but, with all due respect, you don't know my daughter or her circumstances. We work regularly with medical professionals in order to maintain the health of her feet and her body and have consulted with her doctor about this. Since working more to correct the position of her foot, including lifting and strengthening her arches, the developing bunions are, in fact, reduced. So unless you are a podiatrist yourself and have examined my daughter's feet, please keep the unsolicited medical advice to yourself. Thank you.

Made me so nostalgic.. I miss the smell of new pointe shoes. I learned to dance in the early and mid 80's and went thru my Capezios pretty quickly. I got to the point that I was using lambs wool instead of toe pads and could stand on pointe for short amounts of time without my shoes.... Ahhh, the good old days!!!! Life and a shattered ankle got in the way (that and I had a farmer's build that really wasn't flattered by tutu's)
I didnât realize how much went into getting a pair of point shoes. Learned something new âșïž

Auti Kamal thanks, its very interesting over here haha
Same!
This is so interesting. I started skating at 3 & went to competitions till college. I can relate to being fitted for boots on my skates. Each part is also sold separately. Ballet taught me proper posture, form & grace. It's an important foundation in understanding balance & timing. Over half a century later & I'm in better shape than many half my age. Ballet is not only a captivating art to observe but a fabulous method to train the muscles to be flexible, lean & defined. Thanks for sharing.
Im a water turf hockey player just stopping by
*Oh kkaebsonggg* lol sorry
Although I'll never own a pair , I found it very informative .
Thank you Auti for taking us along and thank you Josephine for having us .
best wishes for the both of you
This is so informative! I cried and stopped ballet when I didnât advance with my class to point, I was a âlate bloomerâ and tall at 13 when the rest of my class was graduating to point. (Luckily my ballet master knew that I wasnât done growing and saved my joints from the stress)I quit ballet until I was 18 and an Italian man fitted my first point shoes. I continued to dance for 35 years and a bit in musical theater, I broke my foot last year hula hoopingđ I still dance every day!!
I appreciate the beauty and art of ballet!! I couldn't help a small chuckle when she tried to shutdown her excitement though 06:59đ
Dang... when I was young and danced ballet, no one ever fitted me with any of this stuff. I had no idea any of this protective stuff existed. I did put lambswool in the toes to cushion, and needed moleskin on my heels when they were raw. I don't recall my teacher ever telling us about things like hard or soft shanks, turning in or out. None of this education. People don't know how much it can hurt. Maybe my teacher wasn't that good? I just wore Capezios.
Pointe shoe world changes all the time :) New models and accessories come out all the time :)
Mary Sanchez , I had the same experience. Capezioâs with minimal lambs wool.
Same here. I just got told by my ballet teacher to buy a pair of pointe shoes, so I got a red pair because I liked the colour ...but then I'm talking over 40 years ago, when there wasn't so much specialisation unless you were going to study professionally or something.
Mary Sanchez thatâs because your feet need some initial rough love after getting your first pair of pointe shoes
I never wore toe pads. Our teachers didn't recommend it because you ended up relying onn them and if one day you didn't have them you simply couldn't use your pointe shoes from the pain. As i got older I got single toe silicon pads for some toes that I kept scraping raw, but that's it.
The wand chooses the wizard Mr potter
I trained as a ballerina for 16yrs and recently went back to ballet after 30yrs!!! Yes, Iâm getting new Bloch flesh tone pointe shoes in chocolate brown!! She should have all of the flesh tone colors of pointe shoes in her store!! Freed and Bloch make flesh tone pointe shoes and Bloch makes flesh tone ballet slippers đ©°
I have been dancing since I was three and I am 21 now, but I still get butterflies whenever I have new pointe shoes fitted! I am in love with this video!
Am I the only one that this reminds me of Olivander's wand shop?
I thought that too! I honestly wish there were this much variety in regular shoes to take account of the different fit issues a foot can have as I seem to have weird combinations! I need quite a bit of space at the front, but have super narrow ankles so shoes tend to just fall off there even if it's the correct length. Plus such a high instep/arch that I can't deal with most shoes as they don't come up high enough on the sides. I do wonder how tricky it would be to fit me in point shoes. I did ballet as a kid and worked through the grades but stopped just before I would have ended up on pointe because my teacher was moving & I'd have had to switch to a big class and it was hard enough with the 4 of us as it was (I'm autistic and struggle in large groups) and then my teacher also commented that my thighs were already too large for me to be a ballerina anyway so I may as well just give up as they'd only get bigger when I hit puberty.
I don't know if it's a good or bad thing or not that I never ended up doing pointe since I have hypermobile joints and already at 31 now have issues with my feet. It seems I've inherited my grandma's claw toes đ I reckon that ballet wouldn't have helped me out there...
I do have some of those ballet boots (supposed to be fetish wear but I honestly just got them for the style & because I could pretend I can do pointe!) but it's not the same thing since they are lace up ankle boots and have a heel.
Exactly my thoughts
Apparently not, because there are 16 billion other comments saying the same thing.
Uh oh. Someone is sassy today
Ashley Kruzel lol
Goodness theyâve come a long way. We didnât have gelpads when I was on pointe. We used lambâs wool.
I just recently started pointe and we use toe pads (not gel ones though) and we use lamb wool as well
I use silicon pads and fillers bcs my damn second toe is bigger than my first toe...*painful*
For awhile there was a brown paper fad...like torn up grocery bags. We also had "bunny toes" which were like the gel pads shown but made of foam rubber or knitted and used with lamb's wool. I wore
Pavlovas by Capezio. I didn't know how to modify my
shoes. We bought covers
for our shoes and broke
them in at class.đ
My mom used to to use lambs wool. She said it was just for the toe and pointe *killed* her feet
hahah I was telling my husband that as we watched âback in my day we had wool and it was smelly and sweaty.â I remember my first gel pads almost as well as I remember my first pointe shoes!

Some shops sell old shoes as the glue wears out for $5 a pair for decoration!
the pain though...
They are gorgeous but trust me the pain and the price aren't worth it unless you dance (I do dance)
I would never wear them as I have not been properly trained and would not want to injure myself or disrespect the hard work dancers put in to be able to go on pointe I may buy an old pair as room decor
JadeCouture9093 good plan
Throwback time! When I got my first pair, we were forbidden to use toe pads, good ole' lambs wool was what was allowed. Then again, it was 1974!
Homesteadmommy62 Haaaaa! I remember this! Toe pads were banned in exams - we used lambs wool and...tiny slices of steak. Iâm not even joking!
Yeah, my mom couldn't use the wool since she is allergic to it so she had to use paper towels.
I was only allowed lambs wool when I started pointe in 2013
Homesteadmommy62 i was only allowed toe tape, and that was in 2011
I was dancing in the 2000s, and while we weren't forbidden to use them (and all of my classmates did), our teachers didn't recommend it because you ended up relying on them, and if one day you didn't have them you simply couldn't dance. I never bothered to get a pair.
So interesting..Very refreshing.

Her knowledge and feeling for dancers' feet is amazing, oh my gosh, thumbs up!
I was fitted by Josephine 2 weeks ago in Utah and it was seriously the best experience. These will be my second shoes, as the first pair I was fitted for are all wrong. I would never be able to advance in them. Proper fitting is key! As an adult with no formal dance training, she was so incredibly helpful. Itâd never too late to start dancing, people! So glad I found your channel, Auti! :)

I wish I could get this done ! When I was a child I wanted to take ballet lessons . I didnât get to become a ballerina but, my love of dancing never left me . Thank you for sharing & inspiring me
Now why canât we have that kind of thing for regular shoes?
I have feet like hers and itâs a nightmare trying to find pumps/leather shoes that arenât painful to walk in...maybe I should get a pair of pointe shoes and just walk around in those đ
Seriously though, this was very interesting! Iâm not a dancer myself, but Iâve been wondering about whatâs so special about these shoes for a while now đ
Trust me, pointe shoes are super uncomfortable!
There is something like that for regular shoes: bespoke shoes. They're made to your measures. It's just really expensive.
Galastel
Oh yeah....I looked into that actually (thatâs how desperate I am...), itâs completely unaffordable. Bespoke can easily be 2000-3000âŹ.
What I meant was, it would be lovely, if regular shoe manufacturers would acknowledge that peopleâs feet have different shapes and offer different lines accordingly.
Although some now have âwide fitâ lines...but that doesnât work for me either. They are just wider in the uppers, the actual sole isnât. They should be named âbig fitâ, not âwide fitâ because they wonât fit a person with a broad foot any better than regular ones.
Well it's not really the same cause pointe shoes are supposed to hurt lol
Pointe shoes are customized so that you can dance at the tips of your toes with pointed non-sickled feet, get over the box, and be comfortable enough to bear it. Pointe shoes are painful!
Watching this makes my feet hurt. I give these dancers a lot of credit, ...OUCH.
It doesn't hurt at all
It's does hurt. Stop taking the credit away from all the pain those dancers feel. If you say it looks really easy, then you probably haven't tried it! I do ballet, and it isn't just easy putting all your weight on a shoe!
It hurts but itâs usually implied like it hurts horribley it isnât to bad for a usual dancer but for professional dancers it does hurt pretty bad because they dance 8 hours a day and go through 3 pairs of shoes and it is a lot on their feet
Madina Bibi exactly
I did pointe for 9 years. It does hurt. Its excruciating at times. You bleed, you break nails, you break toes if your partner drops you, you twist ankles, strain tendons and get blisters so bad you cant walk but the feeling of getting up on pointe and dancing with passion is nothing short of exhilarating and soul stirring. Dont discredit the hard work and dedication it takes, but instead go see a ballet and watch how they move..I mean REALLY watch. Its breathtaking.
I'm nearly 16 and I haven't been dancing for very long, but I'm getting fitted for my first pair of pointe shoes tomorrow! I'm so excited!! Thank you for making this video; I've watched it a couple times so I'll hopefully be able to give correct feedback at my fitting.
I was a male ballet dancer for 20 years and at one point did a role in drag that requires me to go on point
It gave me a great appreciation of what the girls went through and I lost quite a few toenails.
In three weeks I was quite comfortable but I had ballet training .
This experience really helped my technique as one has to "pull up" and think your leg begins at just under your lower rib it comes from your core
Nothing but respect for the incredible women who dance on point and do 32 fouettes when I can only manage 10.
For all the younger ballerinas out there, donât worry if your feet arenât ready for pointe! It just gives you more improvements for regular ballet off pointe and you wonât have to waste your money and bandaids!! I recently got my first pair and Iâm in highschool
I'm 15 and want to start ballet, and although I know I won't become a professional due to my age, I'm just doing it for fun. But my point is I'm not flexible, and I wanted to ask should I Improve on my flexibility before starting classes?

you go en pointe without the shoes??
Overtime it will really damage your footđą.Ballet dancers practice for years before getting pointe shoes. Itâs not just your foot but your ankle too!
I wonât be a know it all but itâs may not hurt right away but it flattens the top of your toes and will lead to really bad feet breaks
When I got my second pair of pointe shoes, the person who I went to didnât really care about how my foot was feeling. I was telling her that it was super tight and she just squeezed it and told me it would be fine. She went to the register and and scanned them so I had pointe shoes that didnât even fit...
Same every store Iâve gone to has NEVER cared enough and they just want to be done with fitting in seconds. I still feel like my pointe shoes arenât right
I still remember the day I got my pointe shoes! And I could only wish it was like this... I had lamb's wool instead of toe pads, I got those later. But how amazing the selection of shoes for the different types of feet and your right down the way from me!! so much love!!
I wish mine was like this too!!
Michelle Mack I know this is kinda random but I'm asking a person who does ballet herself cuz I've been interested and have wanted to do ballet but I've have second thoughts and things stopping me because ballet destroys your feet and I just want to know is it worth it and how bad does it hurt and things that give me advantage (like I don't know if this is true but for ex. me having an extremely high arch does that help)but I just want to know is ballet worth it
Ballet sets you up for life! It is so worth it and if you ever make it to pointe, it is no worse for your feet than wearing high heels or playing any other sport. Yet! You will learn the correct form of posture so you won't have as many pains as you grow. You will learn grace which is lacking in this world today. You will learn what to do with your arms and hands instead of just being awkward. Try it! It is hard work but so worth the dedication.
Michelle Mack thank u
Michelle Mack is there anything that gives you advantages and makes ballet easier for someone as I already can do a Pointe bare footed (not for long) and I have a very high arch and 3 of my toes are around the same length, and I feel high heels comfortable, as I feel those will give me advantages will they actually give me advantages
I am no dancer but I find this so fascinatingđ
My right foot naturally sickles inward because I was born with it being bent all the way in. I have learned to compensate when I walk, but I still see it in the wear pattern of my shoes when I compare left to right.
Love how knowledgeable Josephine is about the shoes. Awesome.
Iâm getting fitted for my pointe shoes today and Iâm soooooooooooo exited. Iâm 14 and have been in dance for 10 and a half years.
This was SO fascinating!! I used to dance, never anything hardcore but I was in ballet and Jazz classes throughout my teens. I never got close to pointe, but I always loved to watch and admire those who were. The strength and dedication it must take for this kind of dance. Thanks for sharing this! I would love to see more đ
I wish I could go here to get my first pointe shoes đâ€ïž
Who else doesnât do ballet, but still wanted to watch this.
I just got my first pair of pointe shoes today and I am so excited!
Yay Iâm so happy for you! I I havenât gotten my first pair yet (Iâm supposed to get them in a few months though) đ
Alex Boin thanks thatâs so cool!
I got injured when I was 15, and decided to put my dancing shoes away. My feet of course are no longer quite as flexible, and now that Iâm 19 Iâm getting back into ballet, but I need to get refitted because feet change. Lolol itâs gonna be fun explaining that itâs my first refitting???
Girl I put my dance shoes away when I was younger and now Iâm 16 getting back into ballet so Iâm gonna be like ypur age when I get my first pair
I was supposed to get my Pointe shoes the year I turned 12, I ended up quitting because I thought my grades were too low (only 1 B as a 5th grader). I regret it and wish I could get back in it
Do you have a specific age to do ballet or can you do it any time..
Bill Bartyfish you can do it at any age
Bill Bartyfish
You can start at any age. BUT the later you start, the harder it is to get everything.
My goodness! Look at the elegant long thin legs on the fitter. Gorgeous.
She had beautiful looking feet as well. Even with the shoes on I can tell đ
Country Frau x
The Ninth the fuck
@@wonkashotgun4552 it's a dance thing. Complements towards people's feet are like a fetish in dance, especially for a dancer en pointe it's a very nice complement.
Midnight Rally ok good
Thinking about Harry here, I thought "gotta go check the comments, I cant be the only one!!" And I definitely wasnt đđđ
I watched this video when it first came out and here I am watching it again because I start pointe in December/January
I remember getting fitted for my first pair when I was 15. The very same style as this girl here. Miss my dancing days!đą
I wear Russian Pointe Almaz. Love their pointe shoes. The video was great!
I'm doing my grade 4 exam in April and when I'm in grade 5 I'm doing pointe for the first time .I started ballet when I was 3 and I'm almost 13
Can you start ballet at 11?
ALDCrystal አOf course you can! You can start at any age
I only got my pointe in intermediate foundation when I was 14 I guess it all depends on your teacher
omg Iâm exactly the same lol, Iâm about to do my grade 4, and Iâm going into grade 5 and getting pointe shoes đ
I tot interfound is pointe
Watching this video reminds me how much I miss ballet and getting new pointe shoes!đ«it was expensive for me as I have 2 very different sized feet.
now i wish i had stuck to ballet i love pointe shoes
Same
Same
god, i wish i had a fitting like this 35 years ago. I thought my fitting was really well done, but this is amazing!
Im an old ex-serviceman in the UK, 6'3 250lbs, beard bald and no interest in ballet at all, yet this got recommended for some reason....and ive watched it right through. Well done !
I just turned 59, & your video took me back to when I was being fitted with my first point shoes⊠the excitement! the joy! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Genuine question: if all feet are different why isnât the standard for Pointe shoes to come as singles?
Kayla Dukes gooooood question. I wonder cause my feet are different enough that I almost had to but 2 pairs of pointe shoes in different sizes
If the pointe shoes were stamped out during manufacturing like our everyday shoes, I would agree, but they are hand crafted. Also, the dancer will *work* on the shoe further to meet her requirements which doesn't happen with our everyday shoes. To really address your question, custom pointe shoes are the solution to address differences. czcams.com/video/1wFFn62Umm4/video.html
I suspect it's to keep the shoes looking the same on the outside. A heck of a lot of ballet is about things looking pretty & balanced. So if one shoe is vastly different in looks it would ruin the illusion. Also you can customize them in a way people usually don't with street shoes.
wwaxwork ....there was also a monopoly on shoe brands in some countries
You get the shoe that fits your bigger foot and fill the negative space with lamb's wool (at least that's what I do and it works for me)
I remember when I took my daughter to be fitted for her first pair of Pointe shoes. She was about 12. They're very expensive and only last about 3 months!! You also have to sew on the ribbons and straps and I HATE to sew lol!!! Oh yeah, the ribbons had to be purchased separately.
Sharon Paige how much do they cost?
Grace Reed they can cost from $20-$100, depending on brand, quality, style, store, etc. you usually get about 12 hrs of dancing out of a pair (3 months is a ridiculously long time to keep one pair of pointe shoes)
@@Boredchinchilla When she was just beginning pointe Sweetie, they lasted her about 3 months. I was just giving a reference lol!!
sweets08816 it can be more than 100 as well
Grace Reed anywhere from $70-$90 a pair
I actually wanted to dance ballet when I was younger. Many years ago I was told that I should done it as they are often in need of male dancers.
I love how joyful Auti is in every video! Makes me love her content even more. I also really love Josephine and her Pointe shoes!
Ugh I really want pointe shoes. Theyâre sooooo gorgeous.
Kait is weird czcams.com/video/sINHzdkF-z4/video.html Good day to you. Never try this. Very dangerous. I work at Paris Opera since more than 40 years... Our children never begin Pointes dance shoes before 12 or 14 years. They work more than 7 years to be able to really dance with it... Take 3mn and watch the video attached. The Dancer is Alessandra Ferri, Prima Ballerina Assoluta, more than "Ătoile"... You'd finish in a wheelchair... Thank you...
czcams.com/video/sINHzdkF-z4/video.html , Good day to you. ... If you're not a Dancer, never try this. Very dangerous. I work at Paris Opera (France) since more than 40 years... The dancer doesnt choose the shoe Mr. Potter the shoe chooses the dancer. *Picks pair of pointe shoes up and wind starts blowing and light emerges from the shoe*. it chose me !!!!
If my ballet teacher was supportive and actually explained stuff instead of just repeating over and over and stopped setting expectations too high for young girls to reach, I think Iâd still be dancing. I wish I stayed in ballet long enough to get my first pointe shoes like my sister did, but Iâm happy where Iâm at now and as sad as it was for me to say goodbye to ballet, I wouldnât change anything.
My teacher really is a nice lady, I think she just kept forgetting how young her students were. Iâd love to talk her again since it has been years since Iâve last seen her.
Edit: I had my last ballet class when I was 11 years old. I am 16 now and even though it has only been 5 years, it feels like it was a lifetime ago. I think about it often but now Iâm in my high schoolâs marching band and I plan on marching until I graduate from college. I feel more at home in marching band than I did in ballet.
I used to dance for 9 years and it was my passion until my parents forced me to stop because it was too expensive...I almost cried watching this because I remember my first fitting en pointe... Such a lovely videoâ€
I remember the day I got my first pair of pointe shoes. It was so exciting, and man the feeling when you go up the first time! I remember being like, yikes this is harder than I thought it was going to be. I always used lamb's wool instead of gels or pads, and that was my favorite.
I remember my first pair. It was old Grishko's from older dancer (halfdead). Then I got my own pair, it was Grishko Maya I. I Loved them. When I started dancing again, I got Grishko's Dream pointe (twice) and they are fine, but now I bought Grishko's Smart and I'm really looking forward to see how they're gonna be. Why I'm writing this... In my country, they arre not fitting your pairs. Or maybe It was just me, but I think they don't care at all. I woud like to have someone to fit my pointeshoes so I can be sure they are right for me.
Grishko's pointe shoes are a DREAM. I was lucky enough to get two pairs. Best pointe shoes I ever had. But yeah, here they don't do fitting either (unless you're a pro? I wouldn't know). I got my first pair from a shop that sold bathing suits lol.
I miss doing ballet, such amazing đ
Iâm just a old âsoul trainâ type dancer, but absolutely love this channel! You learn so much. Great vids! â€ïž
This reminded me of wand chosing in harry potter
The way the owner of the shop speaks is amazing đđœ very classy and nice
Itâs really relieving to see all these people ACTUALLY appreciating ballet.
