I’m watching and NOT so casually dying from cuteness! She is adorable and sweet; and I love that she was asking questions and was aware and appreciative of her opportunities. Very mature!

A beautiful young woman in a child's body. She is going to grow into a gorgeous and very talented dancer if she keeps on this track! People like Josephine are needed in Ballet - especially at this young age - to help the girls and boys know what works and why. Not just told to do this or that. I like that she explains things in a way that meets Charlize at her level as a young teen, yet also embraces her talent and skill.

im not a dancer but wow their feet must go through so much pain and stress. it must be a real sacrifice for their joints in later years, but im sure its worth it to them while they can dance.

i love the way you talk to her, the way you make every part of any possible difficulties a positive. focusing on her strengths, and how to improve those. breaking everything that you're doing in the fitting down so it's easier for her to understand, while building her knowledge of how best to fit her shoes for later in life !!! i feel like any little insight into the professional world at that age is like a little gift too, so sharing your experiences with professional ballerinas is so awesome. also you listen to her :') and encourage her to ask questions. that's so important!!!!
as a teacher it's so so nice to see how you value her and her learning. i love watching your vids and learning myself, and i'm really just here because it's interesting, not because i have any professional stake in it at all. you're doing wonders for your dancers, josephine, thank you for sharing it with us !!

I love this child! I feel for her parents though and their pocketbook. Being 13 breaking your shoe in your first lesson with them promises an expensive few years of training. I'm glad they were able to come for a really good fitting. It sounds like she will leave with a good understanding of her feet and what they need.
Her parents know her talent and the cost of shoes is probably the last thing on their minds.
@@hilarycastle4937 Oh please. You must live in La La Land. Unless they happen to be independently wealthy, the cost of ballet shoes is very much on her parents' mind. Even if they know her talent and are doing what they can to support her.
her turnout is to die for. She’s 90% legs too, oh how I wish I had her physique! She was made for ballet.

That makes a lot of sense. I had the strongest and most flexible feet at my studio and was often fitted in the wrong shoes. I was always breaking them and my teachers would still make me wear them. Not until I went to college did I find a person who fit my feet correctly. Dancing on pointe then became so much easier. Wish I would have had someone like you when I was a kid.
Would you reveal which type/ which model of pointe shoes you can recommend for feet like yours?
I have the same issue, flexible and strong feet with high arches, but I can’t find a pair which is good for me :/
Every video makes me reflect back on when I did pointe, and how we really weren't fitted like we should have been. With all this information now, I realize I definitely wouldn't have worn the size/style that I did back then!

Same- capezios in maybe 16 sizes and we were given no fitting. Working class girl trying to find a shoe- young dancers now have so many opportunities!
@@khelintriplett9130 Ouch! We had to wear Bloch, and I think European Pink was the color we had to have for our recital. Bloch was the only brand who made shoes narrow enough for one of my classmates, and Capezio was the only other one we had access to - and back in 1998-2000 they were considered really bad.
@@serephita just looking at these shoes I can tell they are way better than what I wore in the early 90s. And pads? We had wool or foam.... How did I wear (badly fitting) shoes for a year or more until they actually disintegrated? And then felt guilty for not making them last longer LOL!. They were nothing but satin shreds in the vague form of shoes- and no way would I mess the recital shoes up wearing them instead. If I were in their generation who could I have become? It's good to see these girls have options.
I wish I would've gotten a fitting like this when I was en pointe.
We had one brand (Capezio) for everybody in class and while some where lucky that they fit I was always struggling and having problems. We also weren't allowed to wear toe pads of any kind. That was back in 1996.
I love how good she is with kids. Treating her like she knows what she's talking about. Not belittling while still speaking at a great level for her to not only understand but feel comfortable.
With her cute voice and the way you gently encouraged and adviced her, it was like watching a Disney princess and her fairy godmother 😅.
Hope everything goes well for her and she gets the career of her dreams as a dancer.

Arch and turnout, she has both 💖 id rather trade half of my arch for another 20 degree of turnout 😭 imo it's just so much more practical..

I knew a girl with a voice like hers, people would never take her seriously. She was a pretty smart girl, great grades, but people everywhere just assumed she was either much younger or not neurotypical so they would always talk down to her.

She’s a very clear communicator and is aware of how her body feels and what it needs. Those are critical when doing any sport so it’s impressive she has these skills from a young age
Oh my gosh, future prima ballerina! Isn't she the sweetest.
It was so exciting to see a girl who seems to be, ‘Created to Dance!’ Her feet were so gorgeous & her body proportions are wonderful - she made her legs look sooooo long & thus her lines were incredible. I hope to find out in 5 years that she’s a soloist in her Favourite Company! She is on a completely higher level that almost all girls her age. Her giggling was cute too - it seems that ballet/dance makes her very happy.

You are building such awesome body positivity in an area that can be pretty notorious for the opposite. The way you talk to your clients, especially the younger ones is really amazing. Making the unique issues they may have normalized and beautiful is a real service.
I never thought I'd see the day where I'm crying while watching pointe shoe fitting videos, well, here we are I guess... This little ballerina is just too adorable and SO frigging talented! Makes me miss dancing sooo much it literally breaks my heart

Holy cow I’ve never seen such a flexible foot, I always get compliments in my feet but hers are just amazing. And I love how cute her voice is for 13! I’m 13 currently and would die for a cute voice, I lost mine at 11 haha
My friend kept her cute little voice even as an adult. She’s a lawyer now. 😂

I kind of love the lengths she went to explain that feet getting wider is a sign of being a good dancer and not a loss or anything
The fact that she’s 13 here and I can already see her dancers bunions on both sides of her feet is triggering to my overtraining in the wrong shoes years. I’m 50 and live in days I can barely walk wearing socks pain.
She is so very lucky to have people like Josephine and the pointe shop to fit her properly like this. It will save her likely very long and successful career
I love how much care and questions you’re you’re putting into the interaction. I didn’t do ballet for long at all, but I had a habit of not admitting when I was in any pain (and then got into karate anyway 🤣) - so to make sure her feet are taken care of more than she might be aware they should be is lovely to see discussed.

I around the same age as her and she has a really sweet voice. Props to her for acknowledging and properly describing what was bothering her. As a dancer who doesn’t do ballet but another form, I gotta say, it’s HARD trying to say what hurts and what doesn’t because you don’t know if you’re overreacting or not.
At 1.14 minutes I did a double take because her feet with such long toes looked like a hand with moving fingers. That turnout was beyond amazing!x

As a fitter myself I tried to play the guessing game of trying to figure out what shoes you were using! Watching your channel as I've grown as a fitter and actually understanding your expectations has been very fun!
I love watching dancers like her, doing things they love. I'm proud of them and its always amazing watching them. They are beautiful and graceful. But I also get jealous because I want to be in her shoes too (literally and figuratively I've always wanted to do pointe) but I haven't been able to due to being 19 and money problems when I was little. One day I'll get there. I'm not gonna let it stop me

I have watched your videos anytime I am thinking about dancing when I was a lot longer. This info was never available in the 70s & early 80. Easpecially knowing how to tweak shoes. You provide the words for their feelings. I love you put these out.

I am not a ballet dancer, I"m not even a dancer, but I keep returning to your videos, because of the way you know your pointe shoe, the way you fit shoes and treat your customers and because of you, as a person. It"s just amazing, how good you are at what you do and it's so much fun to watch you. As somebody who’s just a little bit older than 13 and has a ‘baby face’ I’m very surprised at how petite she is and how high her voice is.
Ikr, when I was 10 I had a very deep voice, way deeper than hers!
usually i hate child prodigies, but oh my god, charlize is the sweetest little angel.
At my fitting all the girl did was get my foot size. She didn’t tell me anything and I was confused because of these types of video’s. Thank god I watch these otherwise I would have no clue what I was doing en pointe lol.

Hi! I'm from Israel, and I'm 12 years old. I started pointe this year (on zoom but we're back in the studio), I am pretty advanced so my teacher let's me do lessons with the higher grade but I'm having troubles with my shoes.. in Israel we don't have much options, so I couldn't even try on more than one pair (except for sizes..). I'm not sure the shoe is good for me, the shank keeps twisting and the metatarsol area is too wide I think, and maybe vamp is too high? I don't know what to do bc a new pair is very expensive 🙁 I would really appreciate it if anyone has recommendations for me 💕 I'm in RAD intermidiate foundation if it helps.

If the vamp is too long you can cut a small slit in between the drawstrings. If you end up cutting too deep, you can sew it back up. Another reason you’re shoe may be twisting is that it might be too narrow. In that case you either need to get a new pair or get refitted once these die.
I would also suggest that you do a virtual fitting. bestpointe.com is great if you have no other options. Decades from now, after your done dancing, you don’t want crazy foot problems due to lack of selection! Good luck! 👍
Oh! And if you are at your wits end and are ready to buy a new pair anyway, you can use jet glue and basically resculpt the shoe! I did this on a pair of Freeds and it sort of works. It’s not ideal though

Wow interesting! I have super flexible feet and hugh arches and I found that by 3/4 my point shoes in high school/college they would last a lot longer too. Although for me that usually.meant taking a razor to the shank to literally cut it. Neat to find out that others would do similar things too!
