As far as sinks... there are a few other trends
    Single vs double basin
    Deeper vs shallower
A grid at the bottom to lift items for better drainage
Accessories nesting into the top of the sink

Love your videos, Nick! My thing about the matte kitchen sink, and totally subjective here, but having worked as a butcher for five years I am not blowing smoker, I need my kitchen sink to be immaculate. This can't be accomplished without stainless steel that allows for full visibility while cleaning. Just a thought, but also based on five years working as a butcher. I like to prioritize utility in my utility spaces.

I like the idea of open shelves, even rented a place with them once, but anything on those shelves will get dusty and a bit greasy. My kitchen is galley style so I decided on the sink side I would put all my dishes and glassware behind glass fronts. Being a bit of a neat freak when it comes to my kitchen it always looks great. Decorative bowls and seldom used ornate stemware on the top shelf, everything else where I can reach it. Pantry and pots & pans are hidden behind solid door fronts. Works for me.

I love your videos. Just stumbled onto them.
My adds for kitchens trends that I’ve noticed recently are:
    - hardware-less cabinet fronts with self-edged finger pull recesses that track horizontally across all the doors/drawers
    - Deep drawers in lieu of doors with an adjustable shelf.
    - Horizontal grain-matched solid wood doors in mid-tones like bleached walnut (for those who afford custom cabinetry). It seems to work well with Mid-Century, Scandinavian & Japanese-Modern.

Not that you asked me, but here's my two cents anyway. I live in Northern Europe and stainless steel counter tops are too cold in winter. In warmer climates they're probably great: easy to clean, heat resistant, durable, and can be fixed should there be a dent. Professional kitchens have enough heat to keep them warm. At home, it's not for me.
Keep in mind, I'm just some rando person with an opinion on the internet. You do you!

In the open shelving discussion I'd like to add another good point for it to be a good idea or not:
I'm not that tall. So kitchen cabinets standing up to the ceiling are CHORES to me. (Need to grab a chair, get on the chair, etc). Open Shelving came into my mind as a interesting design idea "because" I wanted to get rid of having all my functional cooking ustentils / pots and pans / plates and cups so high I litterally had to be on my tippy toes as soon as stuff were placed on the second shelves of the cabinet. So by having an open shelves, it makes the kitchen breath more, whilst also giving me the second purpose of only holding decorative (and occasional) items. (As a counter balance, we added lots of storage below the counter, as I can reach that quite easily ;) ).
I feel you need to either have very minimal cookware and ustentils for the open shelve look to work, or purely use it for decorative purpose. :/

I've always hated that "cropped" cabinet top in kitchens, it just accumulates dust and gets really dirty, has no real purpose in life, and makes the kitchen look smaller.
And I just love seeing the double-colour cabinets, expecially with darker blues or greens... But I have to admit that panelled appliances just looks weird to me, I prefer to have them clearly in the open, stainless steel or not.

If you have glass panes and cabinet lighting the you can use it to display some things you treasure but don't use more than a couple of times per year. Enjoy designing!

Thank you for your post. I appreciate the new style but I am looking for a timeless look.
I'm going to be using white shaker cabinets BUT I want them to be stain grade just in case I wake up and want a stained look vs paint grade cabs .
What do you think would INCREASE of price from paint grade white wood Shaker cabinets painted, not MDF the thermofoil, vs stain grade under the white paint. Yes I do know that souls crazy but I want to have that option AND if I sell my house I would like to make sure the buyer wouldn't have to rip out all the cabinets so they can have stained kitchen cabinets.

I think if you are building for resell and you only think you’ll be there a few years, then thinking of what the next buyer will want makes sense. If you are Dead Set on Black Finishes on your sinks, Make Sure You Do Not have hard water! And, if you do... Get that Culligan Guy in to Fix it!!😉 Anything "OPEN" when it comes to a kitchen, & someone who actually Cooks in their kitchen, Means Kitchen Grease & Smells.... If you're not OCD Do Not go with Open Shelving!! The More detailing in your wood work also means more intricate nooks & crannies to clean. Moral of the Story... It might be trendy this year... but, tiled countertops, popcorn ceilings & carpet in the bathroom was once trendy too!😉

Matte black is a little too much of a trend for me, open shelving is really not my cup of tea either. I have a 70’s brick ranch house that is high end for it’s period, built in bar a a round glass panes breakfast room houses a half roun 6 panel glass door China cabinet with lower cabinets and a buffet top. Here I show all my 1950’s Franciscan desert rose China and green fire king accessories. I have service for at least 12 in my “everyday” China and Lenox bone China service for 12 in my dining room with complete Waterford Irish crystal drink and bar ware next to a complete service for 12 1930’s Art Deco silverware that fills a multi drawer silver cabinet. I used to be the manager of a high end department store China, crystal, and silver department of the now closed Broadway department store. That was during the mid to late 80’s where I started my design adventure as a Christmas tree decorator and spanned 15 years of my early career. It was like a high end Macy’s with a lot of unique one of a kind pieces. I was in charge of the bridal registry so I always wanted to have a complete set of daily and fine dining articles. From there I went to work in the film and theatre set design and scenic artist that was always my passion and done on the side until I was able to do it full time. I did that as my middle life career for 20 years then went into business sales with Former GTE now Verizon landline services for 17 years that brought me into my retirement of 57 years living in Long Beach California to relocating last April to Texas. I’m really enjoying my retirement and getting to fill a very large house that really is more than I ever dreamed of. Long Beach is growing steadily and my property became very profitable in a ten year period, so much so that I was able to pay off two mortgages and pay in full the Texas home with plenty left over for moving costs and decorating. I mow have a 4 bedroom 4 bath house with two master suites on opposing ends of my home, a guest suite and an Art studio/office. I’m really blessed to have such things in my golden years, where I have time to enjoy life at a pleasant country pace that’s perfectly fit for me my partner and 4 dogs. Oh one last thing about the matte black trend, it’s far too funerary in our pandemic focused period of quarantine. Of course black is the hot trend.

@@Nick_Lewis I grew up in the 60's,70's and my Dad remodeled our kitchen by himself and put in flat panel cabs. It was very modern then. Now here we are 40 yrs later and they're still in the game.
