I totally agree with you, River had one of the strongest teams in that time ( they won a lot of Copas America wich is similar to the eurocup) and they were talented enough to win the wc for the argentinian national team if they were given the chance to play it.
First of all, thanks for very interesting video! But. Who made this positioning? What the heck? Valentino Mazzola and Zizinho were always playing as an inside forwards: Valentino as a left inside and Ziza as a right inside attackers respectively. They have never played as a half-backs! Need half-backs from 1940th? Pick Varela, Danilo and Nestor Rossi - the three very best ones from that era
He put in, but not the starter, but honestly he could very easily be a starter in that team, he was by far the best player of his time, just see two of his only plays filmed and I saw right away that he was way ahead for his time , at least compared to the plays of the players in the video, it seemed to me much better, not to mention that it had the best stats…the only difference is that a player in England has 10 times more media making a third than a player in Portugal

No shout out to vasco da gama?? Well... thats sad, often called "expresso da vitoria", it was the first team to win a continental cup in the world, beating river plate's la maquina in the final edit: the team also had 6 out of the 11 starters of Brazil 1950 world cup run (2nd place)
Excellent list. I’m beginning to learn more about really old players because of HITC sevens but this was also quite enlightening.
It's sad we never had a world cup in the 40s. Really really sad 😔. The world missed

This is the era of "La Maquina"
What is that supposed to mean
It's sad Argentina's golden generation never got to perform on the grand stage:
Moreno, Loustau, Labruna, Di Stefano, Rossi , pedernera, perucca
Would have won the '46 WC if it had been organised
i agree with u

There is a error in Pedernera information. He won de Argentine League and doesn't Carioca tournament.
Cuando salen los mejores de los años 50? 😃 gran iniciativa para recordar a estos grandes jugadores 👏🏻 felicidades 🎉

very good knowledge
There should have been a match between River Plate and Torino in the 40s. What a classic it would have been?
don't forget Sporting Lisbon

How could you not include Fernando Peyroteo as a forward? He was the greatest goalscorer of all time!

He was phenomenal. Sporting Lisbon's greatest.

Argentina were the BEST team in the 1940s BY FAR. They would have won the '42 and '46 world cups if they had been organized.
The Swedish team of the late 40s also deserve a mention. Phenomenal
Pelé always said that Zizinho was the best player he ever saw
Can't wait for the 1950s, the era of so many great players
Valentino Mazzola, best player of 1940s
Naa Moreno 😏
Moreno, Matthews, Zizinho, Valentino, Pedernera. Top 5 in that order.
Liddell was good but him over Loustau and Praest at OL is baffling to me 🤨🤧
Me gustó verlo a Valantino Mazzola😃👏🏻
