@@Wilcoranking On paper, it was Cruyff; but in practice, Holland had no real center forward like Gerd Muller. They played with a different style, with players switching positions all over the field.
Absolutely great but strange to have Cruyff and Kempes as wingers. Why not?: Zoff - Carlos Alberto ; Beckenbauer ; Krol ; Breitner - Neeskens ; Netzer ; Cruyff - Keegan ; Muller ; Rivellino.
Your two central defenders are both great and I'm not taking anything away from your choices however, Elias Figueroa just has to be in there. It's as simple as that. As great as Passarela was, he wasn't as good as Figueroa. 3 times South American player of the year in the 70s and in the 1974 World Cup team of the tournament. How could you leave him out?

As a goalkeeper, Dutch Jan Van Beveren had to be in that top12. Ultimate athletic, great reflex, unbelievable stopper. The problem was, he had a bad relation with Cruyff. Wich was also a reason Michels did not take him to the WC1974. Before WC1978 he allready said goodbye to the Dutch squad. But as a goalkeeper he was so much more talented than Jongbloed. Wich was not a bad goalkeeper at all. Although Piet Schrijvers was also better, but Van Beveren was extraordinary. Really a dark horse.

Zoff was a great keeper, but so overrated. Also you put Bochini in midfilders list, but not put independiente pic in best teams of the world in 70' thats weird. Not mention Gérson in midfield list, but put Rivelino as best offensive midfilder? What? Jairzinho not mentioned in wingers, but put Kempes in that position, when he was centre forward or secundary striker as much? I respect your list and also respect the names, but seems like some parameters are random or just too much biased for the fanatisism.
Uli Honess it was attacking midfielder not forrward. Pierri it was defensive midfielder. Willy van de Kerkhof was attacking midfielder. Callaghan and Heighway they war'ent wings but playmaker, centrale midfielder and attacking midfielder.....
How can Overath not be listed even for consideration? He was recognized as the best midfielder in 1970 W. Cup, and in 1974 W. Cup he played very well as well. Gordon Banks made the save of the century at the highest stage at international football against the best player in the world at the time in 1970 W. Cup (and up to his forced retirement in Oct 1972, he was still considerred the best keeper in the world), and yet you have Pat Jennings for consideration and Zoff on the line up? Zoff was a sub in 70 W. Cup, did poorly in 74, and only played good (not great) in 78, despite conceding 2 world class goals from Haan and Nelinho. Zoff was great and had the world record at international level for not conceding a goal in almost 8 or 9 consecutive games, but Banks was even greater than him. Other than that, your other choices are great.
Zoff "did poorly" in 1974? Well, Italy failed to qualify for the second round but that was for sure not his fault. Mexiko1970 if a different story but in 1978 he showed a great performance. Perhaps he could have saved the shot from Brandts. But I would say that he might well be overrated just because he won the WC at the age of 40.

There were at least 3 Dutch goalkeeprers better than Jongbloed in the 70's.
But Jongbloed had specific abilities to serve as a goalkeeper for total football as Cruyff and Michels played.
