  • TESLA ROAD TRIP - Sunshine Coast to Melbourne.
    It was a last-minute decision to make a quick road trip to Melbourne to attend a family reunion picnic. Paul stayed home to keep an eye on work being done at home (and the animals!) whilst Beth and Matty took it in turns to drive and recharge all the way to Melbourne....1900 km in total. Wait until you see how much (or should we say 'how little') we spend on electric car charging along the way.....
    We hope this video is useful to people who are considering buying an electric car now or in the future....

    Hi, we're Beth & Paul from Brisbane, Australia and we love to travel!
    Paul retired on 28th February 2020 and on the 1st March 2020, we set out on a 6-month adventure around South East Asia. This was a well-planned once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! It was our intention to show you how you can have a great time travelling without spending a fortune.
    Our timing wasn't great - with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus and subsequent global turmoil less than a month into our trip.
    Until it is safe to travel internationally again, we turn our focus on travelling around Queensland and sharing everything our beautiful State has to offer!
    Our videos are posted weekly 😊 (we aim for Thursdays).

    Thank you for taking us on a fabulous road trip in your Tesla Beth. So pretty. It's nice to be able to visit family now. Harriet and I plan to do the same. We are going to Boston, Ma.
    By the way, Harriet and I are adding a new addition to our family. A Hava poo female dog. We are looking for names. Doing a poll with friends and family. Care to throw three names in a hat. We have a picture of her. I sent it to your e-mail . Sending you lots of love💖💖 Jim and Harriet. Richmond, Va.

      Thanks Harriet and Jim 🤗 We hope you like the names we sent….there’s lots of pretty female names out there to consider so we’re sure you’ll find the right one 💗 We’re pleased you enjoyed this quick dash to Melbourne. We were in such a rush to make the reunion that we didn’t have time to film much along the way….and then we rushed back for Paul’s birthday! But yes, family is important and it was great seeing them all together ❤️

    Nice video, I’m in Melbourne and I love the Model 3 and Tesla.
    By the way Beth, the quality is excellent. In many cases the phone can be better than the GoPro. I use an iPhone 13 Pro for much of my videoing. It’s usually much better than many cameras especially in lowlight situations.
    I like your presentation style too.🙏

      @BethandPaultravel  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks @What’s happening? With Gary! I used an SE iPhone for this one and we’re happy that the quality was ok. We are genuinely wrapt with our car and I’m not a technically-savvy person at all. So hopefully, our viewers will not feel so daunted about charging an EV or worry about range-anxiety (if I can do this, anyone can!) We found that we needed a break and to change drivers at the charging stops, so it worked out great 🤗

      @@BethandPaultravel Yes Beth, the iPhone SE is a good phone, my brother has the 2020 version.
      I think range anxiety is a non issue now, especially with a Tesla. I’ve been waiting for the Model Y but I love the 3 and I may end up ordering one. Luckily my 2009 Prius is still a great car with no issues.

      @BethandPaultravel  Před 2 lety

      Thanks @wokemaster192 🤗 we decided to try a different route on the way home and drove through Nagambie, Shepparton, Jerilderie, overnight stay at Dubbo then Tamworth, Tenterfield, Warwick, Esk, Gatton and home. We were able to use free chargers all the way back, so it cost $0. But, it was a slower route and the roads were not as good. We use a free App called ABRP (A Better Route Planner) and it gives us all the route options and tells us where we can find charging stations…we totally relied on it for this trip 😉 When it comes to charging stations, we’re continually surprised to see more and more popping up in all sorts of places. Thanks so much for your encouragement 🤗 we’re planning our next trip!

    • @BethandPaultravel
      @BethandPaultravel  Před 2 lety

      Hi @Entropy Spin 🤗 For this video, we wanted to show how the trip could be done for next to nothing. The Tesla chargers are super fast but also the most expensive. We came back via Shepparton, Jerilderie, Dubbo, Tamworth, Warwick and Gatton then home 🤗 we were able to use NRMA fast chargers for free, so that trip cost $0. Yes, the car has auto pilot but not full self driving 😊

  • @davidhall1707
    @davidhall1707 Před 2 lety +1

    We enjoyed going along on the trip :) . It was very interesting to see a real first hand experience of a long road trip and charging stops with an EV.
    At present, there does seem to be a frequent problem with non-functioning chargers in Australia, Canada and the U.S. from what I am seeing on CZcams. This situation should gradually improve.
    For free charging at NRMA chargers, is that included with an NRMA membership?
    p.s. hoping Matthew will eventually join you and Paul for a bit of screen time. I'm sure many of us would enjoy some of his insight as well.

      @BethandPaultravel  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks David, we’re really happy you enjoyed this trip 😊 Luckily for us, we only came across one stop with broken chargers. The NRMA chargers are great - fast and free, but we did read they will be charging non-members soon. We would also like to see more of Matty in our videos, especially the driving ones because he knows so much about EV’s….but like so many people, he doesn’t like being in front of a camera…..thanks for watching 🤗
