Oh my heart just breaks for them! My Fathers best friend died in a similar crash with his wife and one of his sons. A whole family gone in an instant. Its so incredibly painful and I’m so sorry for their family and friends.

The victims have been identified as Laura Van Epps, 43, Ryan Van Epps, 42, James Van Epps, 12, Harrison Van Epps, 10; and Roger Beggs, 76. Beggs was piloting the aircraft when it went down. Ryan Van Epps is listed as the CEO of the business N85PG, LLC which owns the aircraft.
The passengers are all family members from Georgia and were in Cooperstown, New York, for a baseball tournament over the weekend. The accident happened on their way to West Virginia to refuel on their way home to Cobb County International Airport, Georgia, near Marietta, GA. Apparently, they lived at Richmond Glen Circle, Alpharetta, GA 30004.
As an amateur pilot myself, many pilots discuss the circumstances to learn from it and avoid risks themselves......The pilot was 76 and had a bad cold at the time.......Not a good combination and I don't think he was well enough to fly.

My first thought. I’m not sure if it’s changed, maybe to 65, but commercial pilots for a long time had to retire at 60. My uncle owned his own plane but stopped flying around 60. His first medical check up that said possible heart issues were in his future caused him to immediately sell his plane. He ended up never having an issue and lived many more years but he was not about to endanger his family or innocents. It’s not out yet why this crash happened but that was my first thought.

76 year-old pilot? I'm old yet have difficulty with the idea of someone this age taking passengers.
Think about your decisions when it comes to your entire family.
Do you drive with your family?
Maybe he does drive with his family and maybe he does not. Flying a single engine puddle jumper when you’re sick is much different than driving a car when you’re sick. When you’re driving a car you can pull over to the side of the road and throw up. When you’re piloting a small plane and you have to vomit…. What are the options? You can drive a few miles in a car and pull over anywhere but a plane can’t just land anywhere. You’re sick and not feeling well and probably feel even worse being in a higher altitude and having to make radio communications and keep your concentration on what you’re doing. The pilot wanted to get home because he was sick. It’s called get-there-itis. It’s very dangerous and very real.
