Thanks for having me on!
Since you mentioned Persia, another theory is that Shajar Al-Durr is from the Khwarizmian dynasty and was captured and sold by the mongols, we learned from a romanticized novel though, so it is most likely fake Egyptian propaganda.
And Shajar Al-Durr is an non-separable name, it means Pearl Tree, and you basically have been calling her tree for 9 minutes
Damn, she was doing pretty great until the end there. Also, considering this is the second or so time you've mentioned the Mongols, any chance you'll cover Genghis Khan in a future episode?
I would check it out if i could find a link to it here. Is that a problem on my side or did you forget to link it?
I loved the cross over
You're laughing. A man has fallen into the river in LEGO City and you're laughing.
Cringe but accurate
Who are you. Are you a some history guy joker?
Of course i’m laughing. I stole the rescue helicopter from the doctors on the spot
Y not
Poor Norway.
That's poor Haakon IV to you!
And now their all rich.
Yeah, so nation-states weren't a thing yet (again), but was King Haakon IV "of Norway" or "of the Norse"?
@@supercellodude I think they themselves called it “Konungsríki Noregr,” so I think it’s Norway.
Hey, at least Joel hasn’t nuked Norway, yet
Stepping on a Lego is painful enough, now imagine falling into a river of Legos
Just gone, reduced to fleshy lego pieces
Fun trivia: The next Sultan was a child named Ali, and his mother celebrated his coronation by making lovely dessert. This dessert would later be named : Om Ali, ie. Ali's mother
@Egg Egg egg egg Are you saying random stuff on every comment?
The origin of the Mamluk Egypt was a lot weirder than I remembered.
Amazing sweet

That Hungary and norway bit is every crusader kings alliance ever. "WHERE THE F*** WERE YOU!?"
Listen Sultan, I know you are dying but would you mind signing a few autographs?
Np babe 😉
That's a good one
Shajar had the sultan sign a bunch of blank pages?? She couldn't just forge his signature? Most wives can...
@@avishalom2000lm Maybe the signature is his finger-print.
Happened to my grandmother's dad after he died.
Identity theft is not a joke Jim, I mean Jack.
Last time I was this early, the Habsburgs still had an even number of fingers and toes.
Sooooo 2?
The only family to top the Habsburgs in incest is the one and only Capetian dynasty and most of it's cadet branches.
What? 8?

"He was a belligerent drunk in a Muslim nation."
I should not identify so strongly with this statement.
Haram, halal. It's all the same if you are dyslexic
Agree with it or not you cannot excuse the fact many muslim rulers were drunkers, examples include ghaznavid rulers, mughal, ayyubid and many more
"Say my name"
".... Haakonberg"
Also, if I didn't adore you before, the Wilson joke would've done it
Haakon IV:"What's my name?"
Me:".....Heisenberg?"
Haakon IV:"NAY"
I love the running gag of the mongols just wrecking everything in the back
I know right? I wonder if Jack will do a video on the Mongols?
MAN! I've been saying for years that this period of transition between the Ayyubids and the Mamluks is one of the most underrated timelines of history. Baybars, Fars, Shajjar, Aybak, Turanshah, so many interesting characters, it's like Middle Eastern game of thrones. I remember doing an episode about this on my podcast, Our Thoughts Tonight, but you made this sound much more entertaining, great job!
Personally I enjoy the history of Byzantium myself particularly the reign of Justinian.
I enjoy the damn as cool nicknames some byzantine emeprors got, pale death of the saracens is just so cool, and bulgarslayer is a very direct nickname,
what's ur podcast
@@thelibraryofalexandria8191😐
The Hungarian Part was gold
I'm watching these in historical order and that bit at the beginning is like an awesome flashback to the people we've seen so far. Haakon up there in Norway, Fredrick and Innocent IV and their squabbling over the usual, and a tease at the Mongols doing their thing.
Who else wants to see a sitcom all about the holy war, where Jack vocies all the characters arguing

That Hungary cracked me up ... and it was pretty accurate.
When the king of France goes to Hungary and Norway was hilarious, wp
So creepy. I was just reading about this yesterday while researching the Mamluk Sultanate.
@Egg Egg egg egg My brain zoomed in on Al-Durr. Best Islamic silly name EVER!
One of the funniest stories in Egyptian history after Um Ali “the second wife of Izz Eldin aybak “ ordered the killing of Shajar Al Dur “شجر الدر" she made a dessert and gave it to everyone in cairo and we still have these Desert in Egypt till today called “Um Ali”

I may not be last,

Damn, Shajar was a real powerhouse huh. Respect for getting as far as she had, shame she got too careless in the end.
I REALLY Loved this one, and man, loved some of the 'in-universe' created here, like, I know it is, like, our universe, but the way you interpret these characters have created somewhat of a life on their own now, very very nice.
“So... Norway... Its just you and me now.”
“What is my name?”

This. I like this. He combines the best of both formats. Well done sir, well done!
Great video as always, you should consider Casanova there is a lot about him that most people don't know
Greatest collab of 2021
Im glad the skits are back, ive missed them
Loved the increase in animation. Keep it up!
My God I enjoy you! You are clever, funny, sardonic & informative. You are my "people." Thank you for all the hard work that goes into your great videos! I've been binging for the last couple of days.
I love your "Monty Python" references! I DID see what you did there!
And like Alexander the Great, I want more!
*I apologize for nothing!

Awesome video my dude. Your a great historian
You know it's a good video when Atun-Shei and History House are memeing in the comments with Rackam.
Perfect combination of new and old animation style!!
Awesome coverage
I could only assume the dead saltine was in on it as well cause why would he ever sign blank documents, unless to cover this exact situation.
I wonder what a action/cop duo movie with Rackam and HHP would look like. Probably pretty epic.
I thought I'd never see a sequel to the innocent the third video, but you've delivered.
I just want to say thank you for keeping your avatar stiff this time. Seeing it move its arm around with the gap around the microphone still there was disturbing.
EDIT: 4:32 Oh, and Derpy Soldiers, too?! New second favorite episode (nothing tops ol' Teddy)
Hehe... Never a bad time for a a shot at Wilson.
I feel like I should understand the Norwegian king's "what is my name," joke but I don't.
After Northern Crusades the the Nordic countries kinda stuck to themselves most of the time. You didn’t really get the same attitude pre 1066 where they got involved with everything. Hence why we learn not a awful lot. I mean, they didn’t even get involved with the Pope all that often.
Pre they weren’t even Christian lol
Now this was a funny video. I so enjoyed it. This channel's video's always give me a good laugh.
I’m getting a weekends at Bernie’s vibe here
I'm never this early. Why r these videos so addicting
Hell yeah, history house and jack rackham, the masters of dry history humor unite.
If I'm not mistaken the reign of Shajar signaling the end of Ayyubids dominance in Egypt and soon the sultanate would be taken over directly by the Mamluks(slave soldiers), became the Mamluk sultanate.
Best history Video ever, I love it

First read the title as "impregnating her dead husband" and was really confused for a second.
Its history, I wouldn't put it past the universe to do that
The guys owned their wives back then; so same thing just different label for her.
Great job! Terry Gilliam would be proud.
Great tie.
Pretty good video Jack Iraqi.
Apparently it's 13th century month at History CZcams. See you soon, Louis IX. See you soon.
Both Dovahhatty and Jack Rackam uploaded a video within 24 hours of each other it's like a second christmas.
Is this the Shajar al-Durr that basically created the Mamluk Sultanate that stopped the Mongol advance?

@Egg Egg egg egg always
cool story
its weird how things work out in history , you never know you might get STABBED IN THE HEART.
Wish this had been around when I was in highschool.
It will not differ, I am in high school, but it's still difficult for me memorize the names .
Hell yeah finally some Egyptian history!
Anyways, I have a nitpick, not really major one but still a nitpick
1-Shajr Al-Durr was freed once she gave birth and married sultan Najm Al-deen (her husband). Once the concubine bears kids and marries her owner she is officially freed
And some fun facts, she was probably the first and only one in the Islamic world at the time to be called sultana, And there is a folk story that might be true about the delicacy "Umm Ali", Once Seif el din Aybak (Shajar Al-Durr's second husband, and first Mamluk sultan (technically second as Shajjar Al-Durr was also a slave)) was killed by Shajar Al durr, His first wife had a kid called Ali and he was officially sultan After His father's death, She ordered women loyal to her to kill Shajar Al durr with clogs as mentioned in the video, And in celebration of her son's inauguration and the death of Shajar Al durr, she ordered the handing out of bread soaked in milk, sugar and butter, and so the delicacy we eat in Egypt came to be, umm Ali, as umm means mother.
You REALLY should be a history teacher!
nice
I love that the French king is literally just an upper body
That is an.... interesting title
Winner winner, chicken dinner! (Even if it is Pi Day.)
We have no choice but to stan to this sultan
I'm starting to think the entire concept of the Crusades isn't as glorious and respectable as those paintings made it look...
By this point everybody was starting to see the crusades as a "get rich quick" scheme for the knights templar so it's no wonder people didn't want to go on a crusade.
Lol second to commend, have a nice time for those who see it
@Egg Egg egg egg lo

2:22 descripes Hungary's entire history.
He should make a video on Gustav III of Sweden. He was a badass, he was mortally wounded during an attempted coup, and led a counter coup and regained power before he died.
Can you make a video about phoniea please.much appreciated if you do :D!!!
