Derek is the great white hope so they will give it to him this year. Definitely a business.
Zack is right Giles.. Even Weider admitted to allowing certain athletes to win because of marketability in certain regions of the world.
We see a lot of Arab BBers now from the Middle East, which has seen a massive surge in BBing and of course sales of products from supplements to clothing. The same is being done in Africa with the likes of Awodibu, Samson, Andrew Jack, Bonac and many others. So to encourage BBing on the whole continent of Africa, a catering to them is happening... of course, the African/Arab athletes must be good in order to make themelves marketable... but it is clear they are being encouraged to enter BBing.
Now we see the same being done in China/Korea as we see a surge of athletes from these nations and an influx of supplements/clothing/accessories and even gyms into these Asian nations.
In the end it is all about MONEY and SALES.

So Hadi, a guy who isn't handsome looking, hearing impaired, cannot speak 1 word of English (at least Ramy tried), is not on the taller side to look like a dominating champion, is supposed to be marketable? The reason given here is that Hadi is popular among BB fans in the middle east. Hadi is Iranian, he speaks Farsi. Ramy spoke Arabic which is way more understood and spoken than Farsi in the middle east. It just doesn't add up.
These are the same arguments as "They gave it to Dorian because Weider wanted to promote BB in the European, and especially British market". Really? Dorian would be the last choice for any marketing team. The guy lived like a monk and his brand was built around not smiling on the stage! He hardly traveled out of the UK and even in photoshoots he looked miserable and grumpy. Dorian was a pure BB and the absolute worst choice for promoting anything. And Weider was never dependent on just the Mr O to promote BB. Guys like Tom Platz, Robbie Robinson, etc never won a Mr O but were insanely popular. Tom Platz was known for traveling around the world and giving seminars. He did way more to promote BB than Dorian ever could or cared to.

Mr O shouldn't be given to you just because you are 5'10" and above. You can get out conditioned, out shaped, and yes out muscled by a 5'5" guy. That's the beauty of the Open category. It truly is open. Its the open jungle and no rules. Instead of bitching about the shorter cats dominating, the 5'10" + BB need to max out their frames, come in condition, and outpose the shorter BB. As soon as someone in that 5'10" range puts it all together, e.g. Dorian, Ronnie, Haney, Arnold, it is 100% game over for the shorter BB. Look back in the history of BB and you'd see what am saying. Shawn Ray, Lee Labrada, Rich Gaspari, etc are just a few examples. So yes, the shorter BB will always be at a disadvantage when someone like a Samson or Andrew nails it. They have the best chance of having multiple Mr Os in the row. Same cannot be said for a shorter BB.
Height class would make a lot more sens then weight class, that is stupid. Why would u limit their weight... it's not classic... so shorter men are advantaged compared to taller 212 competitor.. it's stupid and unfair. plus people frame weights less or more... some need to be heavier to look good since they have heavier bone structure etc. It should really based on the height and not wieght to make it fair for 212. like let's say you can be maximum 5 foot 6 to be in 212 or something like that.
Isn’t Arnold the tallest mr Olympia? I thought most the best Olympia have been 5’8” to 5’10”
What's bugging me is the hype around Derek, he was gifted 2nd last year, legs are average at best that's why he rides the horse, arms have zero separation in front double, his chest was soft with zero detail and no delt tie in, he wasn't ripped by any stretch of the imagination, he made an impact at pittsburgh guest posing only because he was a 212 looking big, it's a shame flex Lewis didn't get on the open circuit, now that transformation would have blown Derek's out the water, as for samson, he has a way way more balanced and complete physique than Derek's, legs are best in line up his front shots are over powering, he had a weak back that's it one weakness, put the improved samson along side the improved Derek and I'll guarantee samson will dominate it
