For anyone wondering, Dodie didn't actually belt in this song. She mixed belt which is when you use a bit of your nasal and chest register to increase power while still holding back. If you want full on belting search "Fly, Fly Away" on CZcams lol. Dodie has an absolute gorgeous mixed belt. If any of you think she's actually belting she's not lol. Anyways, Dodie, you sounded lovely and you can totally sing powerful songs if you want to! Also, you look super gorgeous.

I love dodies voice so much I see people saying she can't belt out a song however what I heard gave me chills like I literally have goose bumps from it, she might not be able to belt it out however the way she did I personally think it portrayed more emotion.

Dodie sometimes I want to slap you, in a friendly way, cause the only reason why you have such a following is because of your individual specific original unique voice. Do you really think you would be anywhere near as popular if you sang like any generic x factor contestant? No! And it's not just your voice, it's your musical talent and your song writing skills and your vulnerability when you sing! This is quite a forceful angry compliment but argh it makes me so angry cause you're so talented!!!!
Also, side note, people aren't born being able to belt. They get voice coaches, for years and years and they work on their instrument incessantly. I don't know if you've ever tried getting some training, but if you really want to be able to belt in a way that you're happy with that's something you can do. You might have already but I'd suggest you keep at it, a voice can change and improve with time and effort. Don't give up and think that you'll never be able to sing in a way that you're happy with. I'm sure you'll always put yourself down about some aspects of your voice, don't we all, but it's not the end of the road yet

I'm not saying this applies to Dodie, but so many people assume that singers are born with their voices how they are, and sure, many are born with natural talent, a beautiful tone and instinct for music, but none of that is to do with technique, which is possibly equally important. And belting requires a great deal of technique. I love your voice as it is, Dodie, but should you want to belt, don't assume you can't. (I totally believe you can and that it would be AWESOME) ☺ xx

Just been looking through the comments and damn there are quite a few negative comments. Okay so I think it's okay to state that you don't like the song for certain reasons because hey Dodie can learn what she can improve on (helpful criticising is good). Though, there are comments saying that she has 'ruined' the song. I don't agree with this as obviously everyone has different singing styles. There are also comments that say BooHoo shouldn't have sent her clothes because she "needs tits" to pull off the clothes - what the actual heck? It does not matter whether someone has double Ds or if they "lack" in the chest department. Dodie you looked freaking gorgeous in those clothes! Hi Dodie,
I just came from Snapchat and I love your voice but the thing you said about like that one insecurity that everyone points out that you point out just so you hope everyone is aware of it is very relatable. I'm also super self conscious about my voice. Ever since I was 10, everyone always pointed out that my voice sounded very scratchy and not strong and I've been very self conscious about it since forever. I finally saw a doctor about it and learned that my acid reflux was damaging my vocal cords. So like immediately after meeting someone I feel the obligation to explain to them that my voice is messed up because I'm still very insecure about it. So like I get that feeling completely... But seeing a gi next month so HOPEFULLY it should all be better soon. Btw I love your voice and you are great.

I have acid reflux too, luckily it hasn't messed up my vocal cords as it did to yours, but I do notice my voice changing and becoming raspier from it. Your voice is your voice and if you like to sing do it, no matter what others tell you.

there are two types of voices:
1. head voice, which Dodie sings in
2. chest voice, which Hedi sings in
some people can sing in both, but others can only sing in one

And it's really, really hard to find songs that for my voice, that aren't sung by children. But I want you to know, that you have inspired me so much. Because of you I have really started singing, and I absolutely love it.

I promise you everyone can belt it took my sister about ages to learn but when she got it down she was so happy haha. It's just some people find it much harder to learn to belt than others. I've come here following your snapchat story. I'm confused. You kept mentioning that you can't belt but ??? you didn't belt at all. This is a very soft, sweet acoustic version of the song. I think it suits your voice / aesthetic beautifully. I genuinely don't see an issue with your voice in this video and I'm usually one to be critical of singing. PS you're a real musician. not all musicians can belt. Look at Joanna Newsom!

I really like the style of her covers, but this is one instance where I think it lost some of the appeal of the original song. Because Ariana has such a belt-y, rich voice it takes center stage in this song which has pretty simple instrumentation. Dodie's singing is more soft and suited to acoustic music, but because she was doing a more gentle and minimal take on the vocals the stripped down background instruments made this version sound a bit empty. That being said, this song definitely had some risk factor because its not easy to sing (I'm a belty singer and I have tried). I'm a big fan of Dodie and her channel so I hope this comment isn't taken the wrong way.

I saw your snapchats before this video (ty aus time zones) and from the way you were talking, I expected it to be as bad as you were saying it was.
As a singer myself, I understand feeling insecure with your voice. I feel like I always sound like I'm singing out of a blocked nose no matter what I do, but I sing anyway because I LOVE music, and you should do the same.
Who cares if you feel as though you can't belt. We as an audience have a genuine love for your voice (which is purely objective bc why else would we be here) and think that it's definitely one of a kind. We aren't subscribed to you for Ariana Grande, we're subscribed for your unique tonality and songwriting.
Don't lose that insecurity (because it makes you strive to always learn and improve) but just learn to sing in spite of it. We honestly love you and your voice, and would hate it if you ever stopped creating because you felt you weren't good enough.
