    Jim, when you compared the lighting of the LED against the halogen bulb next to the wall, it appeared that the LED was shining about a foot higher than the other bulb. But you mentioned in your driving with the LEDs on low beam, that it wasn't blinding the other drivers. I take it with all the driving on your car with the LEDs you didn't get responses from other drivers to dim your lights when they are on low beams. I was thinking of using LEDs on one of our cars, but heard mixed emotions about the 'blindness' from other drivers. Thanks for your input and hoping you and your family have a REALLY GREAT NEW YEAR!!!

    Most time when people change their headlight, they move the housing out of adjustment while pushing the new bulb in. I've noticed only one headlight shining way up in the air (probably the one they just changed) and the other pointing where it's supposed to. I just installed new LED headlight bulbs in my car and had to adjust both of them down a little so the cutoff line wasn't too high and do not blind oncoming traffic.

      For sure. When i replaced the ones in my truck, they were at least a foot higher (when about 6 feet from the wall). They also do not project like the halogens. They just kinda spread all over the road instead of aiming in one particular direction.
      So I had to aim them down. And when I did, I lost some distance visibility. But at least driving up close is much brighter.
      It appears new cars are coming with these instead of HIDs. So I wonder what they have done to fix aiming and projection.

    • @ozzstars_cars
      @ozzstars_cars Před 7 lety +1

      +Bad DFW a lot of the factory LEDS I believe self adjust level and I'm sure the design of the lense body (mirror) is purposely designed to aim the led lighting in a direct area.

      Too true. Add to that in some countries driving with your fog lights (high beams) is illegal when there is no good reason for high beams. These LEDs while awesome looking did look a little too highly aimed, risking quite a fine if a cop catches you.
      But anyway, really good video. At least I know what to look out for when replacing my headlights.

    Most good LED lights will be clockable, the reason the collar is separate, this is how you can install them in a reflector housing. Like HID they are best when used in a projector style housing.

    The LEDs should normally be installed in a projector housing. Since they offer brighter light than halogens, LED light has more dispersion than halogens when fitted in reflectors, and can be blinding to oncoming traffic. What are your views on this?

  • @JSchrumm

      jimthecarguy I've installed the kit. The fitment is terrible. You simply can't engage the plastic ring through the rubber insulator that comes OEM from the factory. I've finally managed to put it on by engaging the ring and rubber insulator outside of the car and then went through tremendous struggle to engage the whole assembly with the spring in the car. The LEDs are nice and give good light compared to OEM. I lost the blue high beam indicator in the dash(which doesn't come on anymore) and the fog lights stay on now even when the high beam is on,when before they would shut off when high beam was on.

    Stupid spyder headlights won't take LED's. At least for my '13 Impala with h1 bulbs (spyder not factory). The place where you insert the black mounting ring is too small. And like you said, you can't put the rubber plates back on, which on the spyder low beams you have to cut the rubber off the wires so you can never put it back on if you wanted to. Plus spyder are HORRIBLE quality lights with even WORSE customer service, their voice mail is always full and they NEVER answer their phones or return emails..... sorry to hijack your comments Jim, but I just wanted to say that. Good video, glad your lights worked out!! Stay with factory housings people and just replace the bulbs, like Jim did!

For example, the shop that does my state inspection has told me that converting from halogen to HID bulbs in my state is illegal. Just curious if these are 50 state legal.

I'm looking to invest in a LED conversion kit to swap out my stock halogens on my 2005 Audi A3 Attraction (3 door) but am finding it difficult to find any information which relates to older model cars.
