    I love the peasant knife styles like this, the Opinel, etc. Not clippy, not flippy, made for what knives were made for, use as a tool.

      Exactly. No plastic, just wood and metal. Very little to fail, not much to maintain. Simple, practical, exactly what a knife should be.

    There are a few of those small, family owned knife companies here in Portugal, they all make the same style of knifes. Very common for older folks in the countryside to carry them, they are very useful for food prepping and agricultural stuff. These people live simple lives, and a simple, cheap but robust folder is perfectly suitable for them.

      :) I have seen others as well just never gave them much thought until now, my grandmother in law uses a Portuguese pairing knife for everything I think its cool she maintains it well too keeping ti nice and sharp...

    Thanks for showing off this knife, I'd be really interested to see you show more simple knives like this!
    I've carried my carbon steel opinel no.6 every day for a couple of years now and probably will continue to do so for a long time. I use a carbon #10 for food prep. Great knives

    if you are adventuring into Portuguese folding knives, you should certainly also look for Jose da Cruz, they have a good choice of premium woods, besides the brass viro-lock...

    Opinel knives are outstanding! Yes, they need some care. But you can edit these knives excellent, modify and produce to your own taste. In addition, the Virobloc is a really good concept. And the price is also convincing.

    I can recomend for you to check the Torrão Sendim Knifes, its a man made knifes all done by one single person. As someone said in the comments there's a lot of family run business like this in Portugal. For comparassion, I bought a Sendim and a Opiniel 9 at the same time. Out of the box the Sendim is waaaay sharper, also the opinel broke its tip in the first days

    Hey JEFF.. I'm a bit off topic here, but I didn't know if you'd see this on the older post and I wanted to let you, and possibly others know who may still be waiting, I got my SwordTail in the mail today. I must say I'm very impressed. The design is well thought our, no hot spots I can see now, and Bastion's quality is great. I also love the sheath, with the tech loc. I'm very glad I got the carbon scales also. A bit more but they are very classy and set off the blade very nicely. Also the presentation box was a nice touch. Worth every penny.

    I love those in the box if it's classi i have old folders no lock ussr times cccp couple one or 2 need restoration but they are decent I had a lot auto and folders and lot more spring assisted as normall normal or leaf but they are robust just for food u don't need massive and stable lock knife with big kid or fat blade it's kinda decent for food and does not make people think u try look rambo but bad is wood soaks in and keeps decent smell so u can't disassemble it that decently but they might have a way around it just use wet wipes and get nothing sticky also on the blade and wipe off the rest but they are cool and good might be nice bushcraft knifes too

    Hey idk if anyone can help me but recently my father passed away and he had this little yellow knife with he'd always kept it in his truck. It was my favorite little pocket knife and i recently lost it, but i can't seem to find one for sale anywhere and thought, hey jeff might even have one in his stash somewhere. It would mean the world to me if someone could help me locate one i will pay for it and shipping, thx all and have a wonderful night.
    Edit: it would help if i said what it was called lol. Its a yellow sog e-clips folding knife

    I have opinels, but I don't really use them because the blade gets rusty really fast. Maybe it is because of the Carbone steal.

    • @cutlerylover
      @cutlerylover  Před 5 lety +1

      probably if your have the carbon steel models just force a patina on them so you dont have to worry about rust or try a stainless version if you like, stainless steel still rusts just not as easily
