TheMrturn1 but yet humans have to suffer and dont have the option of being put to sleep. They just have to suffer until the disease itself kills them. Terrible time we live in where animals are being treated more humanely than our fellow human
I've written that very comment on many rabies videos out on CZcams. You're absolutely right. It's awful that we strap humans down to fully experience every last drop and moment of agony rabies had to offer... while animals enjoy the sweet relief of euthanasia.
It depends; some country permit euthanasia. It is sad for those who don't. There's videos here on youtube of infants strapped down, foaming, breathing heavily, and dying...Heartbreaking.
Yomama Bin Fartin The thing is that this dog was already dying a horrifying death from a highly contagious disease with a 100% mortality rate, so, it was an absolute necessity to euthanize him so he didn't spread the disease any more than he already had. Human euthanasia is different because a human life has more value than that of an animal, and, sometimes, people live through things when it was thought that they were going to die. My great uncle was offered this when he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and he refused, saying he still had a lot of things on his bucket list. He prayed, meditated, read the Bible, ate well, quit smoking, worked his tree farm every day, and had very aggressive treatments. By his six month check-up, he was completely cancer-free. Guess what he did? He traveled all over the world, and even went skydiving before his cancer came back 10 years later, when he died with dignity in his sleep surrounded by loved ones.
that is very sad. at least he's no longer suffering. we can only hope he didn't infect any other dogs or other animals. hopefully one day rabies will be fully eradicated from this earth....
This is one of the reasons we control the raccoon population and tell authorities if we see a sick raccoon since they are the main carrier of the disease. This is contagious and I would rather put do a raccoon than a pet.
You definitely did the right thing! Like someone else said, it was a blessing to be put down instead of a horrible death from rabies or distemper. I know that distemper isn't always fatal but...you can't take any chances. Take care!
Thank you for all your kindness you show each and every animal you have come to your practice. god bless you and your team. You have saved this dog from a slow and painful death. r.i.p.
Rabies, sadly, is not treatable even in early stages. By the time symptoms start showing up, it’s too late….you have to be vaccinated immediately after you’re exposed.
I definitely would have thought rabies, his eyes are all squinted strangely and the combination of a dry tongue and open mouth I'd say hydrophobia. The two combined + other odd behavior just points at rabies no matter how it's looked at, at least to me.

We lost two dogs to distemper. They cought it at the same time. Definitely the worst thing you can see your dogs go through. It is pure pain and suffering.
Poor guy. He is in so much pain. Def the later stages of rabies. As a vet tech I've seen this a handful of times in both dogs and livestock animals. Never easy to handle.
do you vaccinate for rabies before release? and is it common in dogs there? so sorry for the little guy but glad you stopped his pain and contagion. good work you do there.
+VetClinicGambia dr micha, how did u know it was rabies by looking at his mouth? i know i see a lot of bad signs in there but im curious on what makes u know it is for sure rabies?
Seems like what they call “dumb” rabies. If that’s correct this means this dog at one point had rabies vaccine and it was not updated it boosted so he only had some but not enough antibodies against the rabies virus.
Looked distemper to me.. And easy way to differentiate is aerophobia, hydrophobia and photophobia typical in rabies and canine distemper could be treated specially in case like this..
I think it’s distemper, if it were rabies it would lose control of his jaw muscles and be foaming at the mouth, I’ve been studying rabies for a long time, dry mouth isn’t a side effect. Rest in peace gods beautiful creation, I hope you lived a good life❤

Is there a chance that a dog can survive from rabies after he got bitten by a rabid dog? It's been a week since my dog had bitten but he always eat food it's not difficult for him to swallow food and drink he always play around and he's a very joyful dog. Our neighbor said that we should kill him but we didn't agree because he never attack us. And we don't want to lose him. We love our dog so much :(
There are vaccines against distemper, but without it, it's fairly simple to spread through things like contact with an infected dogs food(ie then sneezing or drooling in it, fresh urine, blood, even water dishes they have used. It's a very harsh virus, as there's no medication for treatment yet, and they can only do things to help support the dog as it fits it(fluids, nutrients, antibiotics and the like to help prevent secondary infections). Some dogs will survive it, but quite a few don't. There is actually a stray rescue group near my town that is fighting off distemper in it's kennel systems. It's decent amount of work and sterilizing once you have it to get rid of it. But for this case I think Micha believes(or tested) and found the dog to have Rabies, which unless is caught at the right time is fatal.
It's highly likely that this was just a stray dog, and happened to be outside these people's home when they contacted Micha about it. There are lots of strays in Gambia.
+Alex Cortés there is. however we menage to beat rabies only few times. it looks like the sickness itself does not kills and after its done its ok and you are healthy but the problem is that its symptoms kills you BEFORE you get healthy. look on yt r google "survived rabbies"
I heard something about one case, I think. A girl put into a medically induced coma until the disease was out of her system? Except that, when she woke up, it was expected that she would have no memories of her life prior to the coma, because of the way rabies attacks the brain. 'Happy 18th Birthday! I heard you said your first word yesterday!' I can't imagine.
I have a dog too and im guarding him because of this even if i will be required to get bitten instead of my dog because I love my dog so much I can’t let him get bitten
you wouldnt know if a dog has rabies until you kill them and take a sample of the brain matter and check. but i understand people have to take precautions.
No. Very costy to vaccinate a human against Rabies... I hear once in a while from deaths in people that were bitten weeks ago by a weird dog or a mad cat.
VetClinicGambia That is sad...very sad. But it's also expensive to vaccinate against rabies in north america. Mine cost about 650$. and it is not a lifelong garantee.
Rabies is a savage, horrible disease and thank heavens for euthanasia. Terrifying in both animals and humans. Thanks for decently putting him down.

millie williams I thought distemper is incurable
No, but being this advanced, this particular instance probably is probably fatal. dogtime.com/dog-health/general/307-distemper
Distemper can be cured.
Either way it was rabies
the dog must of had distemper becuase no foaming at the mouth or any wounds from biting itself
Glad he was found before he hurt someone; so sad he had no one to love and care for him; poor baby boy
RIP sweetheart. Thank you for taking care of him.
Aww so sorry, but so glad you chose to put him down, can't imagine what he was feeling. THANK YOU FOR CARING FOR THESE WONDERFUL ANIMALS!!!!#
Poor little guy! Though it's hard to make these decisions, thanks to you and all vets for your help in doing so.
Horrible horrible way to go. Thanks for putting him out of his misery.

Cases like this must be so distressing for you all - so terribly sad xx

Hydrophobia is fear of swallowing not dry mouth

NA suzy Q thats what i was wondering too
I didn’t see any sign of either disease. Did I miss it? Do tell.
Rabies symbtoms find it how many days in puppies?
So sad! What do you do to the dead dogs bodies especially ones that die with rabies, if you don't mind me asking? I really would like to know. Thanks
why never blindfold the dog when slip?
Aaah! Micha PeT VeT has uploaded about 30 of your videos in the last 9 hours and is asking for donations.
Is rabies a big problem in the Gambia?
Looks like more distemper but I am no vet.a lot time animals foam and become aggressive with rabies.
Wut if you squirt water in the mouth where don't need to be swallowed just hide down wut happens?
Besides testing the brain, have any other tests been developed to test for rabies?
There are symptom related tests, but the only proper diagnosis is via tests on the brain post-mortem
Any tests done to prove it was rabies or distemper??
Micha I just wanted to let you know a site called Pet Vet is stealing your videos! They are also stealing Vet Ranchs videos! That upsets me so much!
I thought it was distemper at first because he was just kinda sitting there calmly, wasn't salivating, and didn't try to bite you. Interesting.
There are two forms of rabies. The one you are thinking of is I think Rage Form.
And I think your no Vet.
Amber Blyledge there is only one forme of rabies
So do you think people that contract rabies should have the same option.. Watching poor kids suffer for a week is horrible..
+VetClinicGambia dr micha, how did u know it was rabies by looking at his mouth? i know i see a lot of bad signs in there but im curious on what makes u know it is for sure rabies?
Julie YoursTruly I'd say he probably sent the brain for testing.
He tests them himself, post-mortem, by looking at some brain cells under a microscope, I believe.

Do vets get pre-emptive inoculations for these kinds of things? When homeboy was touching little man's mouth I was kind of freaking out.
I'm pretty sure they vaccinate regularly
