What a ride by Martin Dwyer, Never gave up! His finest moment
Thrilling Derby there and Dylan Thomas would land the Irish equivalent and an Arc De Triomphe. Sixties Icon would land the St Leger, held at York that year.

I loved that little horse and backed him in all of his races up to and including the Derby. I went to Newmarket the previous autumn and had a right result when he bolted up in the Dewhurst Stakes. Newmarket the following spring was not so great when George Washington bolted up in the 2000 Guineas but Percy still beat all the others to be second. When he made the line up for the Derby I reckoned he was a good thing, as any horse should be after winning the Dewhurst and being placed in the Guineas. New Approach did the same two years later. Anyway I lumped on him in the Derby. What a way to win, one line by a short head! Brilliant. Can't believe it was so long ago. The money has long gone!
Sir Percy a hero. Marcus tregoning
Another great weekend for Derby winners when the Sir Percy horse "Wake Forest" wins the Man `O` War Stakes at Belmont Park ! Sir Percy was a very nice colt who would have done much better on the track had he not suffered from back problems following Epsom ! I was at Goodwood when he made his debut and he nearly fell coming out of the stalls. The way he finished the race was breath taking and anyone there would remember particularly if they had backed him !
RIP Horatio Nelson
My granddads last derby winner
Hala Bek should have won that hands down. Swooped to win, swerved right and still got within a length
i backed sir percy in the race martin dwyer what a race they both had, dwyer should have had more big race winners than he's got
What a fabulous race and ride. Kind of reminds me of how Anthony Van Dyck won the race
I just got sir Percy’s som
Hala Bek has to have been the unluckiest horse in Derby history.
Was waiting on it for 2k😏😏
Not sure that it was unlucky, just jinked away from the whip
Mark Turner jokey fault letting him swerve off glad he did low because had he run straight he would have won was on sir Percy at 7/1 remember that day like it was yesterday just watched England play v Jamaica was boiling as well was steaming that nite
I backed sir Percy but felt Hala bek should of won
Dumbest tactical decision in racing history: Ballydoyle used their best horse as a fin pacemaker. If Dylan Thomas had been allowed to run on his merits he would have won by three lengths, no problem.
Not really. There was a reason he was 25-1. Nobody thought/knew he was as good as he was. Everybody is a genius with hindsight
RIP Horatio Nelson
