    Dr Devious was one of very few horses to run in both the Kentucky Derby and Epsom Derby. There were rumours for a few years that Silver Wisp would run over hurdles. When he eventually did he did so badly it was his only effort. A bit like a good flat horse Arctic Owl some years later who had only one run.

      @Commander In Chief I was working on building site, sandblasting brickwork, stopped and went to the betting shop and had £200 on Istabraq at 11/10 at Ayr, yes we didn't know what was in store for him over hurdles, but I backed him at 4/1 in 1998 champion hurdle £200 🙂

      I backed Arctic Owl 8/13f on his hurdles debut, was having a good day in the bookies so I put £390 on to win £240, shocking run....

    Another tremendous upload. Didn't realise St Jovite had such a terrible race, didn't enjoy a single yard. Bolger did always maintain he was better right-handed.

      Dr Devious was the victor here but St Jovite reversed the form at the Curragh's Irish equivalent. That year's Guineas winner Rodrigo De Triano in the contest. Peter Chapple-Hyam would train his second Derby winner fifteen years later with Authorized.

    After near misses with El Gran Senor, Glacial Storm and Blue Stag how ironic that a horse Robert Sangster owned as a two year old but sold should win the Derby.

      he'd already won it twice before those near misses though.

    I couldn't believe the odds on Rodrigo de triano in the international stakes 8/1 i thought it was buying money he was staying on past horses here but clearly hated the track . He was an exceptional horse on fast ground on a conventional track and im pretty sure he like brigadier gerrard was one the few middle park winners that won group ones over 10f . Can't remember one that's even stayed a mile since .

    @csb7376 Před 8 lety +1

    given he won the Guineas with a strong late surge and went on to win the Champion stakes over 10f it's strange that Rodrigo was beaten so far out in this.

      Its Epsom lol. Some horses just do not handle the canvas and the undulations. Newmarket and esp Ascot are two completely different tracks and the guineas is a completely different type of race altogether as its run over a straight mile lol. Epsom is laughed at by most American racing fans as well.
