  • On July 17th, 2020, I soloed up Cooper Spur and down the south side. The route was still in but just barley. There was just a couple mixed moves on the crux, but overall its was pretty easy going. I enjoyed a beautiful Sunrise and the mountain almost entirely to myself.

Super impressive man. Looks crazy. Cool to have the summit all to yourself!
Sometime you should do a gear review/ overview just going over your main gear, what you like, what you might change etc. I think that would be cool!

Amazing job both with climb and the video. I tried Hood for the fitst time this year in Jan and didn't make it. Think I missed my window for this year. I hear late summer and fall is nost dangerous time to climb. You did make it look easy.

Awesome video! The gopro effect is definitely at play on this one. I was up at Cooper's Spur this past Sunday and that route looks wayyyy steeper in person.

yea, I think that the sun cupping also made it feel less steep, Its 60 degrees at the crux, but didn't feel that bad

haha, its a commitment, but worth it to make a more interesting video. and strangely, I enjoy the challenge.

Nice work! On the climb and video! Did Cooper Spur in April and in a huge cloud. Visibility was just a few feet. Would love to go back. BTW was that an old fixed rope through the chimney?

yea, id like to go back and climb it in winter conditions! there was old steel cables and debris up there, I think from the old fire watch tower that was up there in the 30s

Superb style climbing that! Did I see a bit 'o' cable coming up at 3:01 or is it some old rope? And is that the crux, climbing up between the rocks right there? Thanks in advance.

Yes that was the crux. There was some old rope and cables and other debris. My guess is they are left over from the ruins of the old fire watch building they had up there. I've only seen them in the late season. Pretty interesting! here is more info on that: willhiteweb.com/oregon_lookouts/mount_hood/cupola_234.htm

@@MountainMontage Thanks! Yes, that was, in your words, "intense"! Have you ever reat Mt. Hood - A Complete History? It was written by Jack Grauer and I think it was privatly published - it goes into great detail about the lookout and Lige Coalman who was ranger for awhile - the Coalman Glacier was named after him. Congratulations on a great climb.
