Mount Moran // Skiing Skillet Glacier Sick and Solo

  • WARNING: This video contains footage of projectile vomiting! Only 4 days after skiing Kings Peak I headed out to Grand Teton National Park to ski the Skillet Line on Mount Moran. I’ve been looking at skiing Mount Moran ever since I climbed the CMC route 2 summers ago. Unfortunately I couldn’t get anyone else to go. Aaron had used his get out of home free card on Kings Peak, Christof still has a hip being held together with pins and screws, and Chase coaches a highly competitive 6 year old soccer team. The route for Skillet starts at the Leigh Lake trail head, and wraps around Leigh Lake until you’re directly under the Skillet Glacier. Then it’s straight up 5,000ft to the summit of Mount Moran. All said it’s a 16 mile round trip with somewhere around 6,000ft of climbing. I’ve never thrown up skiing before. Not sure if I was overheated, ate some tainted food, or caught whatever stomach churning bug is currently raging at my kids elementary school. Whatever it was knocked me down like a right hook from Tyson.

No one can truly appreciate how hard it is to film solo (at such high quality with so many different angles), especially on skis, feeling sick, with so much climbing. Well done as always Danny.

Dude you probably needed more Sodium! Plain water can throw off the electrolyte balance. Shout out to the CamelBak podium bottle though! Trust me, I was a puke-fest at Western States 100 bc I drank too much plain ice water. Also when you mentioned Grand Canyon R2R2R and feeling crappy again like that....that is an easy one to get dehydrated on....mix in altitude, tons of climbing, losing a lot in sweat (warmer conditions). The Top Ramen will deliver the sodium! In any case glad you made it down safe (despite being solo and feeling so sick). Big fan of the channel - keep up the excellent work!

Official Counter: Mediocre Amateur videos since Danny's last puke: ZERO! Danny went all in and really stepped up the the plate (leaving a brown splatter in the snow) multiple times. Welcome back Skeletor!
