‘Absolutely decent’ is my new favorite term
Jax haha it’s a classic!
Decent for sure.

My new favorite term is “duck.”
Hi inuyasha. 😁
So yeah, almost a year later, but just so you know that people out there still pay attention and watch all the way through: duck. :)
Ye
its a goose i think
2years later and I've done the same :)
Holy Duck! I've been watching this guy repair game boys for days and now I find myself looking up soldering irons, tiny screwdrivers and broken handhelds. What have you done to me?
It happens, just got my soldering iron in today
You've contracted it
I know the feel. I just did the clicky shoulder buttons mod for the GBA and burned my finger in the process lmao.
Same here, duck-y!
But since I couldn't find any Gameboys in my thrift shops to refurb, I bought a Bittboy instead!
nice. i actually have a couple of nice screw driver sets myself... but i probably need more.
"Not sure why it's wet...."
That's been dropped in a toilet, my man. Hope you washed your hands.
Having a baby sister in the mid 90s I can confirm this
Mat Br lol
My thoughts exactly, dropped in toilet lol
@@shanktheglobe954 my thoughts were worse....
MY thoughts were someone found this in the Garbage and saved it and posted it for parts.
At first I didn’t think that the microphone made a difference but I watched one of your other videos and your new microphone is great
Ah thank you!
Yay! It now doesn’t sound like your talking in a closet!
Edit: duck.
To repair the traces on the board you can do one of two things. The first is scrape away the masking, run a couple strands of stranded wire down the line of the trace and tack them in place to complete the connection. The second thing you can do is jump a wire from one side of the broken trace to the other. It's really not that difficult, and if you want to see someone do it before you try it I suggest watching 'retro repairs' videos on CZcams.
I absolutely love Elliot authenticity, man do whatever you please, I like how you do edit and restore things, I have learned so much in your videos, keep it up!
I know I'm late to this party, but I think it's a fantastic restoration! You've got to do what you've got to do. In the end, this is for you and you're the one that needs to be happy with this.
That text font is horrible! That’s not how I remember it. Must have clicked something last minute and didn’t notice! Haha sorry!
Took 3 hours to render and upload. I won’t let it happen again but please forgive me this time!
Enjoy the video besides that! The point of it was that a random new cut on my face appeared due to shaving! 😂
No way bro how did u find it that cheap I know it was in rough shape my back lit game boy color cost me £48 well probably because it's back lit
DUCK!.... love it, thanks mister
What do you usually do with the consoles once you've restored them? I might be interested in purchasing from you
Font on what?
@@WiiUniverse( nice was it advance SP or just advance)
For removing sticker residue very easily try something we have here in the USA called Goo Gone, it comes in a spray bottle and also in a spray gel form that gets tacky and works very well. Residue comes right off after waiting probably as little as 30 seconds. Great video!
WD-40 does a good job as well
wargent99 goo gone actually isn’t flammable if I remember correctly.
wargent99 fair enough. Never even noticed. I’ve lit stuff near it before and everything lol
isnt goo gone just like orange oil? I've found coconut oil removes anything sticky the best. just clean off the oily residue with ISO
nail polish remover can work in a pinch too, as long as it doesn't hurt the plastic--use sparingly and you'd probably be okay
I have to say, I've only discovered your channel a few days ago and I absolutely love your restore/ retro gaming videos! Thanks so much for sharing :)
I've really been enjoying your videos. I just started digging into your backlog and loved seeing the step-by-step process, even with the frustrating damage. Absolutely top duck.
I only have one word for this: Duck
Here's two more words: Duck Go
Here’s five more words: Duck goes to lemon store
The Mighty Ducks!!
Whew, that was a close one! Thanks for the heads up!
“Duck”
please do it i need hope in humanity
Oh well
I got my heart in under eight hours.
I think you just came out of the gate too needy.
Got any grapes?
Sorry :(

Man your vids are what got me into console modding. Found a GBA at a local thrift shop for $6, did the IPS screen and USBC battery mods alongside a new Arctic white case. More recently I breathed new life into my childhood GameCube with an SD card reader in place of the disk drive. It's so much fun and it's all thanks to you dude, so duck to you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I just fixed my gameboy pocket after it not working for like 20 years. I'm so excited and I owe It to your videos!
Hell yeah! Top Job, p.s love the longer unedited footage! Also very helpful being more in depth for amateur game boy modders etc. Around the world!
I’m glad you enjoyed the longer less edited ones! Take a very long time to make!
@@TheRetroFuture definitely appreciate the time and effort that is put into all your videos duck, (almost forgot 🤣)I think I've completed your whole channel 🤣 much better than watching normal TV Haha
Awful shame for the people who DUCKed out of the video early! They will never know the secret. I do genuinely love that hair dryer, though.
Such a classy duck in admitting all will not go according to plan. Now that's admirable
Duck! Also great job with the restoration. You've made bring a screen back to life seam so simple! Giving me ideas of trying a screen repair on my gameboy colour. Keep at it mate!
Duck! I really enjoyed the restoration despite it not going as planned, it's just satisfying seeing the individual processes that go on and the problem solving that goes along with it. Lovely video!
You did a great job trying to repair everything, don’t worry about the people that hate. That’s what many people do...just hate. Great video though man and nice duck haha
Duck, thanks to your videos, Im learning different restoration techniques for my different consoles/handhelds
Duck! Recently started restoring the batteries in my old pokemon games. I originally modded a GBC with a new lens and shell back in 2018, your channel has been very informative.
Forget the repair i want that duck ! 🐤
The duck says, "quack"
When he says he knows he’s gonna get hate for using a different screen/motherboard I’m like “those people can complain after they’ve put the same amount of work trying to fix the originals” seriously he was so committed to trying to make it work and only used surrogate parts when it really wasn’t going the way he wanted.
Duck, this was amazingly informative, even if the build didn't go perfect I feel like I know a lot more about trouble shooting a gameboy repair
Duck - good to see people still restoring these old gems of gaming history...
Oh my Duck... I'm inspired to repair the screen of my gameboy pocket with horizontal lines...
Stumbled upon this channel by chance and started watching a bunch of your videos. just wanted to duck in the comment section here and say I like your stuff. Subscribed
Duck! Love the video and the channel Elliot. Hope all is well, please keep doing what you’re doing, I’m binge watching all your content! Stay safe!
I for one would rather you be true and honest and take some hate, than lie you fixed it and ruin your reputation. You tried to fix it , that's all that matters. Oh and "duck" lol.
Your videos are DUCK-ing awesome. Seriously considering getting into Game Boy repairs because of you.
Duck!!🦆😁
I personally liked the idea of putting new screen and just giving this fresher look, Ah, this really brings back memories when old stuff was brand new ❤
Thanks!
Duckety duck. Its been two years and I still find videos like this satisfying 😌
Always loving the Videos
That was the ducks nuts, thanks for the inspiration. Thanks to you I bought and repaired my own dmg gameboy for a fraction of the price!
You did an absolutely fantastic job, it always amazes me how you’re able to fix so many things, absolutely fantastic work as always!! And duck lol
Thank you so much for this video! I wanted to show my son Pokemon Blue for the first time and when I checked the batteries in my old gameboy pocket, they were all corroded out. I followed your video to clean up the battery contacts and motherboard and now it works good as new. Great vid and thanks again!
I restore guitars and sometimes parts just can't be saved. It happens with everything. Good work on this GBP!
Duck.
I "DUCK"ING love your videos. I'm binging them in these quarantine times. You've got a new subscription btw.( I absolutely love that duck tho)
Duck! Eitherway was a really cool restoration video! Thanks for taking the time
Thanks for showing how to remove glue from the screen - I bought one recently with a screen like that so it's nice to know it's not too bad of a fix.
Loving the Duck hairdryer, I saw it on Twitter and I thought it was an item that you was repairing.
Some times you gotta say "duck it".
These duck videos are really making me want to get into the internals of all the old systems I have. Thank you!
Duck! ... I just wanted to buy a little Indigo Game Boy Advance and now I'm considering starting a collection made up of "restored" ones I'm finding all around my city. You made a 90's soul very very happy.
Duck!
I love this restoration, even though it turned into a kind of "Theseus' Gameboy" XD
I think you should move the microphone lower so that we can hear you better when your looking down. It's something that I personally think will improve the quality drastically.
DUCK! I thought you did a marvelous job! These videos are strangely soothing!
Thanks for showing the process!
When I see a “duck”.... I just look away, with a moment of being freaked out!
You know you have to display that duck in every video from now on, haha.
You're the real doc, great work.
Duck....what a great video!!! I’m tryin to get my gear together so I can start fixing modding.
I used to detail cars for many years. Often I was tasked with removing vinyl decals during detailing. The best way I found to get adhesive and vinyl decals off is to heat it up and slowly peel off the vinyl. Perhaps try using your fancy new duck hair dryer, heat up the polarized screen and see if that makes for removal of it easier than using the blade.
The video was duck - mazing
Dude your channel's awesome! I just subbed because of how awesome this stuff is and how insightful it's been too. Also Duck!
Duck!
I super enjoy your videos! Specially the IPS mods:)
THIS WAS A "DUCK"ING AWESOME VIDEO
Hey, I've got a Gameboy Pocket that I managed to get working again, but the shell is in really rough shape. It's an original silver one with the glossy chrome bezel around the screen. Should I keep it original, should I repaint, or should I replace the shell? Also, duck.
If you can find a paint that suffices, repaint it, if you can't, choose between the other two options.
I know this is a little late but I would recommend replacing the shell.
@@chicklinlive It really depends if you can find a good third-party shell or a high quality used shell
Duck! Just started pulling old cartridges apart to replace the batteries. Cheers for the inspiration
duck, nice repair, I'm trying to do one my self, this was a good resource
Leave the word "duck" in the comments below. OK, Duck Dodgers.
Holy shit that's my old gameboy!! I put those stickers on my freind gave them to me at school
It was a really good job, you try everything but didn’t work, is good that you had replacement for everything, it turn out really good, the back painting is nice, you should paint the front as well, im learning a lot watching your videos, im starting to fix gameboy, thank you for sharing
what a well loved gameboy, even if its in bad condition before the restoration, that gameboy had loving hands playing it often and adorning it with pokemon stickers
"Eight Dollars and 69 PENCE??!!" What mixed up currency is that!!
Skipped to the end of the video to see how it works.
*spoilers*
Doesn't work.
Also, duck.
Love these types of videos, just subbed after bingeing a few. Got me interested in fixing my broken Xbox controllers. Also duck
Best gb mod channel, convinced me to restore my gbc.
A _"dot"_ on the screen.... This eBay seller is an _artist._ 😂 That's an excellent tip regarding the self-tapping screws. Of course if you ever want to eliminate the issue entirely, you can sink some heat-set threaded inserts into the bosses and swap the self-tapping screws for some nice cap screws.
Duck! Your content is duckin' great!!
I was nervous for a moment when you started cutting off the polarizer but then you put on a glove and all was well in my mind. Phew.
DUCKKKK, new to your vids. Love them
i could never quit on a video without finishing
duck duck duck
@14:36, the ball-cap comes off!! he's rolled up his proverbial sleeves 😊
now, down to the REAL business 😁
love the channel! just discovered it. used to repair systems, myself. still have some that need tackling. maybe it's time to re-enter the fray 😊
This might seem fairly random to most people, but when I watch videos like this as a game developer it makes me:
A. Really want to start restoring my old electronics.
B. Wish I could put into words the amount of time a lot of people waste working on low-level game design. Like, for people who are curious about game engines and want to work on them as a main focus it makes sense. But there is a whole subset of people who make games from the ground up using low-level programing, even today, and it just a shame. If it's what you enjoy, then do what you want, but these are extremely intelligent and efficient people who could be working with idea farms to create amazing things that could change the way people see video games and really make the big players have to do the things the masses want rather than continue their "low-cost, high-profit" scheme. But instead, they use that genius making retro-based technology, lol. Like, when people do stuff like this they don't mold their own cases, design their own motherboards, there is someone who specializes in every step of the process so that, in the end, better things can get done. But here is a whole community of people who have locked themselves in this mindset that they need to know everything, which actually holds them back from doing the amazing things they could be...
Some terminology for you, the display connectors are ZIF (zero insertion force connectors) and the bar is the actuator or lock. The holes that link layers are vias, and via's that go all the way through are plated through holes
Duck! Thanks for sharing, so many of these types of repair videos only show complete successes. I think it's interesting to see one where some compromises need to be made. Because tbh that's going to be most people's experience if they take up this hobby.😂
Duck🦆 bro i love watching your vids as a result I've cleaned and repaired a few gameboys for me and my friends and your videos have be very helpful
You know, out of all the Game Boys in all the world, this one really ducked a tragic fate. Looking forward to the follow-up if it comes one day 😊
This was like watching the guy from toy story clean woody 👏🏻 super satisfying haha
I don’t know why but this has to be my favorite repair.
No worries. The motherboard and screen are going to be fixed later, so not worried about that, and think it looks amazing!!
Duck innit, i love ur vids man, just watching through your old ones lmao
Duck! Haha just found your channel, amazing work!
Duck
I could've told you that the first one probably wouldn't work because it was corroded fully through. I will say that yes you officially repaired the model. Sometimes restoring often means replacing components that are faulty. Great video.
Love your work duck
I hope you read this, because it's something I learned that really helps get rid of all sorts of 'sticky' adhesives. Stickers on stuff, or adhesive from electronics like the screen you were cleaning.
So, Alcohol SOMETIMES works, but most of the time it doesn't really. What does work though, sometimes better than Alcohol is oil. Oil (like olive oil) makes the adhesive unable to stick and it can be easier to mechanically remove some adhesives off. Not all, but some, and for the ones that are still stuck on, and the oil doesn't really work well.
Use orange oil. Essential oil, or orange furniture oil. but be careful, because it CAN soften or damage some plastics or even remove paint(Test first). But it can straight up dissolve most of the completely stubborn sticky adhesive residues that you might otherwise need to just use elbow grease on, and at the very least it does make it at least 4 times easier to remove.
There's some specialty products you can get that work too(like goo gone, but that as far as I know, just uses citrus oil too), but whenever I have something sticky that I need to get rid of, usually alcohol, oil, or orange essential oil and waiting a few minutes, and some minor elbow grease is all it takes. I test alcohol first, then oil, and then use essential after that, because the first two I always have lots of, but the essential oil is a bit expensive, but really all you need is a few drops, so it's really not that bad.
Just something I learned that has helped me remove stickers and adhesive residue from most stuff very easily. Also, get yourself a plastic spudger/scraper or use an old plastic card. It works way better than sitting there rubbing it with a q-tip. The q-tip is for cleaning, not for removing adhesive.
I know you said a lot of people would be dissing on you but I gotta say, this gameboy repair was a tough one.
For anyone who wants to retro an original dmg gameboy and the shell has yellowed, rather than doing retro brighting with uv lighting and stuff, I found out by experimenting with an old damaged shell just sit the shell in a small container and get an old toothbrush and evenly brush white king power gel all over it and let it sit there for around 2 hrs. No need for any uv lighting or anything and let the bleach gel do it’s thang. I did it and my gameboy shell literally looks new and it didn’t damage any of the gameboy text on the front of the shell
Duck anyone that gives you crap about the repair!! You did great!!! Love your videos!!
I ducking love your channel!
Ya should change the category from gaming to education chief. This is soooooo entertaining to watch!
Haha, that's great. Duck is the nickname my girlfriend calls me. Nice synchronicity considering I've just decided to start repairing and refurbishing basically all the same things you work on throughout your channel. I've been quite inspired by your work on both the electronics as well as video production. Just last night while trying to come up with something to do on the side, both as a hobby and to make money while I was talking with my girlfriend, and at the same time I was playing a damaged DS Lite that I was using as a GBA because it has the best screen of my collection, and we both suddenly realized that I could just repair it. Much of the confidence to start came from watching your channel, so it's funny that I caught this one video today and Duck was the word you used. I love the channel, keep it up Elliot. You're doing a really great thing here.
What the DUCK! That was a great video! Good job breathing new life into that device!
Duck....quack quack. Keep up the great videos! I really enjoy them
Watching almost exactly two years later Duck!
