Hearing how humble and well articulated Johnny is now, I really wish he could've had this perspective when he was in his last year of college football. Would've been really fun to have seen his career as a pro turn out well. Glad to see he's doing well.

This is the first interview I have ever seen of him. Did not realize he was this knowledgeable and insightful on alot of topics. Got more out of this than listening to ESPN for a year.
Unc is a great interviewer if you watch all of his interviews he knows how to relate to whoever he’s interviewing and he allows the person to tell their story while he listens. Many of the other folks talk too much over the person their interviewing and they don’t ask questions that allows that person they are interviewing to tell a story like Unc does. UNC’s a problem these other shows gonna have to step up their game because he’s gonna be here for a long time.

I don’t think it was any big secret why Saban retired. He was an old school coach from another time and he saw the obvious and that was that he was not a good fit for the new college football of NIL and the transfer portal. He new it was going to be be much more difficult for him to consistently field a championship level team year to year, and meet the expectations of UA administrators and even his own. So he found it an opportune time to make his exit.

Not surprising, we’re going to see a lot of the old school coaches exit and a new era of coaches with the NIL. Easy to be in contention for the natty every year when you can do handshake deals with players and basically handicap their future but with NIL no player has any loyalty and rightfully so

Great interview. I still wonder why Johnny can admit that Alabama and LSU both had bag men in the early 2010s offering likely million dollar handshakes and nobody cares. Seems like SEC and other southern teams bend the rules to their whim and nobody bats an eyelash. Maybe it's because they don't have pro teams...

That was the wave back then. I’m from Montgomery, AL. I saw plenty of guys that I went to school with go to Alabama and get brand new cars,jewelry, parents getting bills paid for . Everybody knew it was just under the table for sure

Once the SEC made a deal with ESPN for television rights, it hurt college football.
The best players will not pick Alabama over schools like Georgia, Michigan, Texas, Florida, Ohio state, schools in California with the NIL and the transfer portal. Saban knew that. Lol it's not much to do in Alabama compared to those states.

i would love to see a flat salary cap that every team can choose to meet with min and max contracts, college football is almost a stand alone sport at this point and its just a matter of time before you see some sophmore getting a 17 million dollar extension for 3 years from a college lol.

IMO the transfer portal hurts the players and the NIL hurts the coaches. A lot of these guys transfer because of playing time. And instead of taking accountability of why they’re not playing and fixing it they transfer. Some of these guys transfers and still don’t get the playing time they want. The NIL didn’t do nothing but speed up the firing process for coaches. No college is about to keep pour money into NIL to recruit the best players without progress.
Respectfully you don't seem to get it, the CFL is A BILLION dollar business these college athletes take just as much risk as the pro's and so many never got a chance to make it to the NFL because of injuries and have nothing to how for it. NIL may not be the ideal solution but it's MILES better than what they got before.

NIL was a mistake. College athletes should get paid, no doubt. But it is going to make 90% of schools unable to compete whatsoever. It needs to be restructured similar to a salary cap.
