- Manchester City and the world of football are mourning the loss of former Club manager Sven-Goran Eriksson who has passed away at the age of 76.
By way of tribute to the Swede’s contribution to the Club’s history we are republishing our documentary The Sven Year which charts the highs and lows of Eriksson’s solitary but memorable season as City manager.
The documentary features interviews with the man himself, alongside fans and former players such as Elano and Nedum Onuoha.
The Swede was appointed in the summer of 2007 and his arrival saw an influx of continental talent as City made a flying start to the campaign before our form dipped after Christmas.
Though Eriksson was to depart after just a year in charge, that season is remembered fondly by supporters for the exiting brand of football instilled by former England manager, the likes of which had not been seen at the Club for some time.
The Sven Year recounts key moments in that period, including our first league double over Manchester United since 1970, along with the emergence of the precocious Michael Johnson.

i am a Lazio fan, i watched him bring lazio to scudetto.. i followed Sven to man city (it is sky blue color with eagle badge).. ended up loving the club.. thank you Sven for the memories.

He was the founder of the Man City symphony, which was supplemented and brought to the national level by his follower and student Mancini, after which Pep made the symphony ideal and made it to be played not only in Europe, but all over the world 💙

Watching City under Sven you could see the beginning what we have today. He showed United how capable we could be. He left us stunned and hopeful, passed the torch to Roberto Mancini who carried on and then to Pep who lifted us higher on the winning streak we are still in. In the 21st Century: before Sven, we never had a victory. After Sven. we never had a defeat.
This club man. So special. This club never forgets. Once a blue, always a blue.

Sven-Goran Eriksson was a great manager for Manchester City and England altogether back when I followed his matches. His follow-up contributions were just as great but then I ended up seeing him in the LIVERPOOL LEGENDS game that will forever go down as one of the most important games that I have ever witnessed.
May he rest in peace god rest his soul.
This was such a watershed season as a City fan. Being awash with new money to make exciting signings. Singing players people hadn't heard of. The emergence of Michael Johnson, the greatness of Elano, the two derby wins, and them the downfall of Thaksin, freezing of funds, and collapse of our season. But then that all changed in August 2008 with the purchase by ADUG. And the rest is history. Thank you and rest in peace, Sven.

I remember we were singing "It`s just like watching Brazil" as we had back a bit of the swagger last seen in the Bell-Lee-Sumerbee years, Sven holds a place of such importance in the rise of City to where we are now.

Sven-Göran deserved more time at City, one can only imagine what he could have done with the new owners - probably a similar things as he did at Lazio a few years earlier.

I remember meeting him inside the tunnel at the Ethiad, had a warm smile, and managed to take a picture with him. He then asked if I was one of the trailest, and I politely replied no. 😊

My interest for city started this year. I remember worked in a prison sat and daydreaming what player's that would be signed and how they would play. After i moved to a foreign country and first thing I do come there is to find a restaurant that showed the first game. Rest of the season I think I saw like every game of city in some bars just missed the second mufc game because one of my strongest hangovers ever..
Legends remember the August -September month charge City had under him his first season and that 1-0 win over United. RIP, sir. You lived the dream🕊🕊
Michael Johnson, still remember that goal against Derby. Unfortunately he had some terrible injuries and mental issues so it was over before it really started for him..
