Hi,
I've seen some of your videos and I really find them interesting. Keep it up, you're doing great! I have the Boox Note 2 tablet, I've had it for three years. Last year I had an accident on the bike lane and I was hit head-on. Right at that moment I was carrying my Note 2 tablet, and unfortunately the screen glass broke. In itself the screen is still working normally, the e-ink part has not suffered any damage, only the screen glass.
I've been waiting for this change in Boox for almost a year, waiting for a 6GB tablet, as it has been mounting tablets with 4GB for several years, and the truth is that they needed a refresh. I am aware that RAM does not condition the speed or performance of the tablet, but that the competition, Bigme, is mounting its tablet with 6GB and also the Boox Palm has come out with 6GB, I expected this change.
Another change they have made is the screen glass, which is now going to be much thinner, I imagine this will provide greater precision when writing, since we will be closer to the e-ink.
And finally, I have seen that they have fixed the bug they had in the "notes" application, in which when turning the screen, a margin with black and white squares appeared, quite unpleasant. Now the "notes" application adapts to the length and width when changing from vertical to horizontal and vice versa. By the way, my tablet does not have a G sensor, so when changing orientation the screen does not change, and this is something that had to be done manually on this tablet, but it does have a fingerprint reader that works well.
Greetings, and a big hug from Barcelona, Spain.
I got a ultra c a few months ago, love it. It's great to have layers and ways to customise things like the manual refresh and turning off touch input. I think they should package up the work in the note app into an sdk that third party developers can use to optimise the pen for more apps. That said it's worth it just for the built in note taking app and e-reader.
After a very long pondering and after watching so many reviews I just got my Tab Ultra C before it will get discontinued, I will have to test it longer before I can tell a final judgment, but so far it performs wonderfully and I am very happy with it, hopefully it will also be updated to android 12 after a while when the launch of their latest devices will roll out and get even better.
Thanks! I have been trying to decide between these and your comment about using it as a notebook next to your productivity machine cinched it! I work for my state government, so I can't replace my laptop and its associated MS tools. I'm upgrading from RocketBook so I think the Note Air3 C is going to blow my mind!
What I found great about the new 'Tab Ultra C Pro' is that it has 2 volume buttons. Looking at the 'Boox Palma,' besides being able to adjust the volume, they can probably be used to flip through pages, without the need for gestures or touching the screen
Yeah, it should be. I think i mentioned that in my launch video for the tab ultra c pro. Thanks a lot for your comments!
Nice review. I have the Tab Ultra C and after a few months of us, am still loving it, and I'm not envious (yet) in the slightest of the new devices. Note does look like it offers a better writing experience, but I'm mostly reading graphic novels and books, and occasionally looking things up online. I don't have the keyboard but may purchase one soon. I'm getting the sense that the Tab Ultra C may be a little more solid (which is good for klutzes like me). How do the builds compare in your opinion?
Hi Kit. Do we know if Android 12 brings any additional functionality to attached keyboards? If would be great if the Pro had auto-capitalize and better auto correct options that were not tied to the Boox OS. I suppose you could test this with the NA3C and a BT keyboard.
Thank you for your very nice comparison which I really want to think about. And I fully agree with your conclusion how to choose Air 3 C or Tab Ultra C. It is matter of having keyboard or not.
One does come with keyboard should be replacement of my productive machine rather than simply notebook replacement.
I have RM2, and I actually considered to buy Air 3 C, but having watched this video, I need to think through it more what to choose once Ultra C pro released. Thank you
Kit, I'm curious about how you feel about the Note Air 3C as it compares to the Tab Ultra C (Not the pro version). Which one would you recommend from the two? I know Tab Ultra C has a stronger battery life, do you still see that as the more superior choice?
Thanks for the great comparison. What's your take on typing in documents like Google Docs or online writing tools like Novlr? So, typing in the browser, not necessarily in apps. I know some apps seem to be resource hogs. So maybe using the browser is a little better?
Do Tab Ultra C Pro or Note Air3 C have battery-bypass feature? Battery-bypass means when you use the device plugged-in to the power source and the battery is full, it will stop charging the battery and draw power directly from the power source instead of from the battery. Laptops, phones and tablets use that feature to extend battery lifespan.
Hello, I've been recently watching your videos about Boox devices and I thank you for the thoroughness you go through. My main aim to switching to an eink tablet is eye strain when reading, and I wanted to ask how do you think color files (comics and so on) look on the new Note Air 3. From this video and the one from two days ago I saw that when lights are turned up it looks quite decent and with contrast.
Also, doesnt the light from the eink device also strain a bit? With my Kindle I never use it and can read perfectly.
Many thanks!
I see, many thanks for taking your time to reply.
The "issue" with the darker screen is the same with the air 2, isn't it? Although air 2's is not kaleido3, from the videos I've seen it is equally darker than kindle for some reason.@@carloareaser
Im new to E tablets but came in at a good time for these new products. I ordered the Air 3 C I do want the more sleek device one regret is the lack of a camera, thinking on it I do see a use case for me a camera would be nice but I think will over come since the need for camera will be once in a blue moon and it can be overcome with use of camera on phone. For my need I dont see myself without a PC laptop, this device would be nice to have as a Every Day Carry when you usually dont bring along your laptop.
The camera is mainly for scanning documents. You can take photos but it is not its strength
@@2niteL8R Yeah aware it was an option I thought I may use but will see.
@@osros I have tried a few times on my TUC. But it’s not a photographers camera.
Recently bought a tab ultra c, a few days after my 30 day return policy ended they announced new device and I was a little upset but the tuc seems to be more solid on battery and not too far behind compared to the new processor. What’s your thought? Would you recommend tuc over note air 3 c?
Didn't the Tab Ultra C have a 6300mAh battery? If the Pro is being released with a 4600mAh battery as discussed, what does that imply: improved efficiency permitted a lighter battery for improved handling, or a decision to allow shorter battery life than the discontinued model?
Hi, if i mainly use for e reading, social media and web browsing, Ocasionally mediabconsumption on CZcams, which device wiuld you recommend? Productivity and note taking are both not the main usage. Thanks.
Would love an update with adding the Tab Ultra C Pro!
Hoping for that too very soon.
I have sight problem and looking into an e-reader that would provide eye relief compared to an iPad. Could you test the Boox Ultra C (or Note Air 3) in a dark environment, say with dark mode turned on, ready for bedtime reading? Also, do you know if we can get the Ultra Pro without the keyboard case? I think the extra money for the camera, added memory and better battery would be worth it (without having to make it a laptop replacement).
Yeah, it is great for evening use. Exactly what I am doing right now. Warm light, all reflected light. You don't really need dark mode, because it is just eye friendly in normal black on white mode. E-ink doesn't perform well with white on black for some reason.
I now tested the supernote a5x and already sent it back last friday. the performance isn't quite there where I would have liked it and gonna spend the money on an note air 3c since I am going to work productivity wise on my laptop.
I think boox should focus more refining the user experience of existing devices. Instead releasing devices this frequently.
Yeah, there is a balance to be struck, somewhere between the supernote and remarkable pace of releases and the Boox pace. I do think they do a job of regular updates to the software and include older devices too. :-)
I suspect they will once they mature as a company and cement their leadership in the industry.
@@t0dd000 They already are a leader. It really is Boox vs Bigme at the end of the day.
They don't release things too often in my opinion, especially compared to Bigme which is constantly cranking the same product out over and over again.
At the end of the day, is the size and weight difference between these 2 devices noticable?
Does have keyboard inside or just the attached?
Not in the market currently, but I'd actually be tempted by the Note Air3 C, even for typing, since I have bluetooth keyboards lying around anyway.
any guesses how the input response speed would be on the note air 3 c with a Bluetooth keyboard? I have the tab ultra and am happy with the response rate. would air plus 3 be slower possibly?
Yeah, it would be a good option. Nice to know where things are going and a few models down the line you might be ready to buy!
It's pretty good. I show a little bit of typing on it with a bluetooth keyboard in one of the videos about it.
Do you feel that they will add the smart gestures and erase capabilities to the TUC? I have both the 10.3 and Mini.
Yeah, they will. It is planned, in beta and should be here very soon for these devices.
Hi Kit. I have the NA3C and I love it. However as I need to have 2 to 3 very large college ebooks opened plus the note writing app, I found the device gets quite slow and sluggish. I used the cpu-z app to understand how much ram it was using with those apps and e-books loaded in memory and out of the 4gb I had only 0.8gb left of available ram; so me not being an expert in hardware/system performance, I inferred low ram could be the main issue for the slowness. Hence, I am willing to return my na3c and get the tab ultra c pro assuming the performance would improve for my use case by having the extra 2gb ram and slight faster processor. Here is my question: how bad is it to take notes on the TUC pro on a flat surface without a case? I know it sounds crazy but I must use the device without a case (for medical reasons). But having read about the wobbling created by the camera bump, I wonder how bad this really is? Can you simply get used to taking notes with the wobbling or is it just too annoying and distracting, cumbersome to the point where the only alternative is to have a cover? Can the wobbling be overcome by simply getting used to it or another workaround, or is the design makes writing on a flat surface simply impractical? My iPad has a camera and it’s about +-2.5mm high and it’s not all that bad to write on it, but TUC pro camera bump looks more like 5-6mm?? I was hoping you could provide your take on this since the comments and other video reviews out there about the TUC pro don’t provide enough detail of whether the camera bump makes it impossible to write on a flat surface without a case. I would appreciate your honest perspective and insight on this as it would help me make an educated decision. Thanks for the great work and amazing content produced.
Thanks for this, great question!
I think generally you'll be better with the Tab Ultra C Pro as you assume.
I would say that the wobble is worst at the very top, an lessens as you move down the page.
So if you can handle a slight wobble for the first few minutes you write I think you'll be ok!
🙂
My Remarkable 2's pen has the built in eraser function. Does the pen in either one of these color screen devices have pens with built-in erasers. I prefer the intuitive feel of flipping over the pen VS tapping in and out of an eraser function through the menu/screen. Since I use it almost exclusively for note-taking, it's important to have that eraser. 😊
Wait, I think you may have just said that about the Tab Ultra C?
Tab Ultra comes with the pen2 pro with the eraser, note air has the simpler lighter stylus with no eraser. However you can buy one with an eraser. You can go for a third party one as well if you wanted to save money there. Your remarkable marker for example would work for both writing and erasing!
clear as mud
I don't understand which one is ultra pro, orange logo or grey logo ? because on their site pro have 2.8 ghz ( you say 2 ) with grey logo, but you have orange logo....
Hi @kit, which would you recommend for note taking, the new Boox Note Air 3c or a supanote?
Purely for note taking supernote is amazing, but there are just so many other things that you can do with the Note Air 3 C, and it alson osts slightly less. The notes app is improving all the time as well and is very powerful already.
@@KitBetts-Masters thanks Kit. When taking notes on the Boox, does it have the equivalent functionality to mark actions (draw a star), either using the native software or running a 3rd party package like one note?
For three reasons i think note air c for me: I would use my own ergonomic keyboard due to RSI, I would use in portrait almost exclusively, and iI prefer a light tablet due to RSI.
Cons to note air c: I hate orange.
Thank you so much! So, do you recommend me to upgrade from the Air 2 Plus to the 3 C?
Ah yes, good question! I have that video: czcams.com/video/4jrRb3mCMLA/video.html
@@KitBetts-Masters excellent comparisson! Thank you so much, this is what I needed.
How is the input reaponse rate ok the note air 3 c? i want to use it primarily for longform writing on a bluetooth keyboard
Yeah, it is really good. Even with the bluetooth. I'm planning on using it with my bluetooth keychron for long writing sessions.
Thanks for the review. Have you considered the possibility that they've sent you a Air 3 C with a better processor in order to get a better review? I find it hard to believe that they are advertising a 2.2GHz and delivering a 2.8GHz. (in Brazil, they are actually advertising a 2.4GHz for the Boox Air 3 C). I've purchased one and should be getting it in 10 days.
Yeah, I'll be very interested to see if you get a 2.4GHz. it might be different SoCs for different regions, that's a done thing in tech, but when you get it, install CPU-Z and let me know what you have please! Either way, it'll have plenty of power!
Olá, vi que vc é do Brasil! Estou pesquisando para comprar um eink que me permita os 2 mundos: da leitura e da produtividade. Depois vc poderia por gentileza falar quais for as suas impressões dele e TB afinal com qual Chipset ele veio? Vlw.
Pode deixar! Logo mais te aviso por aqui@@marcelo_luz
I will do that. Thanks for the reply@@KitBetts-Masters
@@marcelo_luz veio com 2.80 GHz octacore
I'll be using it as development terminal and write code outside on fresh air.
It'll be fabulous for that. A new world for coders, away from the stereotyped image of them in dark rooms stuck at keyboards!
There's been a lot of discussion about exactly which chips and clock speed we have in this device. I think that CPU-Z might be throwing up inaccuracies here. But I have had it confirmed that the NA3C uses a Snapdragon 6225 2.4GHz chip: www.qualcomm.com/products/mobile/snapdragon/smartphones/snapdragon-6-series-mobile-platforms/snapdragon-680-4g-mobile-platform
Regardless, it's a fast e-ink device and an absolute joy to use!
Great. Så no keyboard cover for the 3C?
No, none, a third party could make one, but it would need to be bluetooth,.. which would be fine really. But if you want a keyboard case, just go with the ultra pro. :-)
Hi! Is there any advantages of BOOX Tab Ultra over BOOX Note Air3 C?(except camera)
The Tab Ultra costs €100 more.
Yeah, the keyboard case, essentially. It does have a bigger battery as well. And you get the pen2 pro in the pack.
@@KitBetts-Masters Do I need to buy protective film? Doesn't the screen wear out over time?
Do you think the tab ultra C pro will have the same camera bump ?
Yes, although they have improved the design of it, and included an LED for illuminating the scanned page.
My good, you have a cool voice dude ! I
Don't mean to doubt you, but does it really have a 2.8ghz processor? The Taiwanese side is in chaos right now because the retailers said it's 2.4 -- and ppl are using it to guess which Snapdragon CPU it has..... (i saw that you have clarified with Boox.... let's hope they know what they are saying!)
It does have the 2.8GHz. They have got confused with the 2.4GHz Wifi that it has on board. lols. And yeah, it's in the official Boox marketing materials as 2.4GHz, so no wonder resellers are getting it wrong.
And no need to guess, it's a snapdragon 665, 2.8GHz octa core. I show off the details on CPU-Z in a few of these videos.
Are you reviewing both the devices here, the new ones? I am dissapointed they didn't reveal the Tab X C though. Probably won't get the tab ultra c pro, looks like a laptop now, and I have a laptop lol.
Just a little confused I don't know what is happening here. Are you comparing four devices, comparing the notes to the tab ulta c pro, ultra c, note again, might be easier if you wrote a name on a piece of paper and put it under each device. :)
I mean if your using it for note taking charging it once a day is not that bad we charge our phone every night. It’s not a deal breaker
But your more recent video shows geek benchmarks prove the Ultra C Pro is twice as fast. Right? So performance is the choice.
Yes, but they are both pretty zippy for the real world general use of an e-ink tablet. TUCpro, is definitely the choice for switching between apps etc. Thanks for all the great comments!
Thanks for this video! I’m looking for guidance choosing between the Note Air3 C (NA3C) and Tab Ultra C Pro (TUCP). I’d like to be able to use the device multiple ways. 1. I want the device to replace a notebook or pad of paper. I am a huge fan of OneNote and love the idea of my hand-written notes going directly into OneNote and the possibility of my notes being converted to text is even better. 2. I want to be able to use the device for typing and to function as an alternative to my laptop in certain scenarios. Is there a useful keyboard option for the NA3C? Does the TUCP work as a replacement for a notebook for handwriting? Would I need multiple cases for the TUCP or can the keyboard case be folded completely like the cover of a notebook? I’m leaning toward the TUCP because it has a larger battery and is only 20g heavier, but wondering if there is any loss in functionality for hand-written notes compared to the NA3C? I also frequently take photos of white boards during meetings, so the camera of the TUCP would be nice… although the bump seems annoying if the cover doesn’t prevent wobble (assuming it can sit flat on a desk for writing).
Hello, yeah, the NA3C is more of a note taker. There is no keyboard case for it, but hooking up a bluetooth is quick and it would be possible to use a third party keyboard case if someone was to make one in the future. The note features are the same except the paper feeling screen protector on the TUCP. But it is still good for notes. The non pro model had two cases, but I rarely use the non keyboard case. The cover prevents the wobble, and it sounds like you'd get some good use out of the camera, but then I guess you'd still have a phone handy for that purpose! Choices, choices!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for the detailed response. It sounds like the TUCP gives up nothing compared to the NA3C except that it costs more, weighs 20g less, and isn't available for a couple weeks. The upside of the TUCP is bigger battery, upgraded stylus, camera, and the option of a keyboard case. I actually think the ideal solution for me would be to get the TUCP, standard case, and keyboard case. Thanks again... now I have to decide if I should purchase before reviews are available knowing the TUCP
may sell out.
Your videos are warmer, looks like some filter is added
Yep, jut a touch of a vintage look.
Note Air3 C says "E Ink Tablet" while the Tab Ultra C Pro says "ePaper Tablet PC" -- what's the difference between E Ink and ePaper?
Aha, good spot. There's no difference, they are the same screen. Just an anomaly from whoever wrote that table!
I have looked at the spec and come to the conclusion that it is the battery size difference. You wont be able to use Note Air3C for web surfing for a long time (I mean many hours). Correct me if I am wrong !
epaper is just a generic name for E Ink, which is also the name of the company that produces the technology. Kind of like acetaminophen and Tylenol. : )
As a comicbook reader is the air worth it?
As a tab ultra c user. I would say definitely worth it. kaleido 3 is amazing for any colored reading material
@@Reaver9021Thanks for your feedback. At what level do you put the eink light and contrast? I'm also thinking of buying Note air 3 for reading all sorts of documents, comics included.
@@Basilisks666 I also have a Nova air 1. Compared to that one you need to turn it up a little higher. But this is expected with any colored e-ink device on the market. Because screen has an additional color layer and this makes it a little bit darker than a b/w screen.
I wish onyx would make a high quality folio like the remarkable leather one. The trifold is ok, but plastic and the trifold is not quality. The market for the Note is not a stand, but writing and something that looks like a notebook in a meeting. A leather folio whithout the trifold would be perfect. The E-ink market is limited and I the audience is style and function. This is why RM 2 is still so popular :)
Let them add baterry that will keep as long ass boox note air 2 pro and camera with software that is able to create pdf book pages from it in form of text and pictures or smart shapes/etc and it would be easly best in the market... If they add writing fill like on remarkable plus for example water resistance/proof then even better. If screen would be even more responsive and colorful plus resolution but still keeping batery time like note air 2 pro I would pay for it 900$. If it would have same capabilitis but foldable/elastic to be folded like arm bracelet (fallout game feel) It would be a superb device - but software would ned to be changed and UX rethinked - so its song of future I think
Sounds like a cool idea. I also agree they should try and get the battery performance back up to Note Air 2 + standards!
Note Air 3 C has an anemic amount of ram... like wtf, why only 4gb of ram on a $500 device!? should have a min of 8gb and preferably 12gb+... really comes into play as you add layers in the drawing apps, 4gb craps out after about 8-10 layers... I mean even the MUCH cheaper Boox Palma has 6gb of ram, just doesnt make any sense whatsoever. Until they increase the amount of ram drastically and reduce the prevalence of dead pixels, I can't justify spending $500 on one these.
I am glad boox are foing in this direction with the note air 3 c but i feel like they just made their entire lineup of 10.3 inch products obsolete now.
I considered a refurbished tab iltra from boox but you meed to buy the case seperwtly so the mote air 3c is even xheaper than a refurbished ultra. Makes no sense.
Yep, I guess this is one of those step change moments in technology that we are witnessing right now. I don't personally think that the older devices are obsolete, but I can understand the sentiment and concern from some.
Boox definitely releases new products quickly!
Btw, please go through the origami cover for note air 3c, really keen to see it in action
Waiting for an A4 sized device in color for PDF reading and annotation 🙂
I don't think so. I've had a 'Note Air 1' for almost 3 years now, and I still don't see the need to replace it despite its age. In these 3 years, I've already switched my phone once, and it's now outdated and performing poorly. The 'Note Air 1' actually works even better than when I bought it, thanks to software updates released since its launch. It's not as disposable as common smartphones and tablets. I also have a 'Sony Reader PRS-T2,' which I've had for nearly 10 years, and it still works perfectly for reading simple books. It uses electronic ink technology. OLED screens tend to degrade easily, as can be seen in several Oneplus and Samsung devices.
Waiting for Remarkable 3 😁
