I love them all, I know which one I'd buy if I could only have more but...
This is more about your choice. - Věda a technologie
What an exciting time to be getting into e-ink! I'm actually an early adopter, using Boox products for over 10 years, and I'm very happy with the Tab Ultra C I just purchased. The pro may indeed be a little faster but honestly, I don't know if I'd notice while reading graphic novels and cookbooks. As for the Note Air 3 C, I'm not doing much note-taking (yet) so TUC feels like a better choice for me, especially hearing from a few people that the Note Air 3 C has a slightly darker screen.
Thanks for another great video Kit!
Do you think boox is making another Nova Air? Since Nova Air 2 is out of stock?
Thank you!
I bought the Tab Mini C 7.8" and immediately regretted it... sending it back, it's heavy, but loving Kaleido 3!!
These e-ink devices are quite promising. I'm tempted to pull the trigger. Hope they update tab x to a color "pro" version soon. Bigger size would really come in handy for me since I would use it primarily for technical document annotation. I'll hold my horse for now
Yeah, I agree, I love the 13.3" format and hope they update it too!
I'm really torn too, for the same reason. There are rumors of an upgrade to the X but on the other hand I'm afraid to see what the price would be...
Hi Kit, you struck a chord with people with this idea that eink is getting closer and closer to laptops. I've been observing that (14" and smaller?) laptops are getting closer and closer to tablets, e.g. they fold, have detachable keyboards, etc. and I find this exciting. My 2c as a non-expert but a user is that it seems to me that with that in mind, they will meet somewhere in the middle, and the TUCPro seems to be aiming to be the first one in that space yet, and to me that's a really smart move. You can do almost anything on an Android nowadays - obviously apart from tasks that require some funky proprietary software - and the screen size makes that really convenient and doable. Since the funky software I work with has moved to the cloud, personally I am free from OS limitations, all I need is a browser. I think we will be seeing this more and more with software catering to Android as a legit OS. Exciting times await us and TUCPro is their harbinger.
Correct opinions. And you are right, I am very much finding more and more that I am using web app versions of software which with just fine on the TUCPro in chrome.
waiting for your review of the Ultra C Pro before deciding!
Yeah, sensible choice.
Thanks for the great reviews and helpful information. I am deciding between Tab X and Tab Ultra C Pro . All I want is to organize notes at work and cross-reference with client names on a calendar. I work on multiple clients and need to keep organized. And to read books. Only negative in my mind is the later version of Android on the Ultra C Pro. But is that even worth considering at this poin ?Thanks again for the great videos.
My advice, I bought first an 8inch Boox BW in the form of air nova 2, then upgraded for tab ultra c, for me, that form factor is almost perfect if a little too big. But most importantly, with the resize now really fast, especially in PDFs, everything needed is there, although most times I don't even need to resize! Really happy even with the quirks!
Hi Kit. I’ll be interested in seeing how the new Pro keyboard works. From their video it looks like it will have more viewing angles and a stronger connection. Let’s see!
Yeah I agree, it certainly looks better for table top use!
Brilliant!
Hey dude, what about Supernote A5 X?
I've been waiting for the launch of the tab ultra pro and trying to decide between note air 3c and TUP. Still yet to make my mind up completely but your video very helpful indeed. May have to watch it again though!
And once I bite the bullet, will definitely use your affillate link as been watching your videos on Boox products for a while now and really like your content and style. So happy to support your channel and pay it forward. 😊
Thanks so much for watching. I don't think you can go far wrong with either of these TBH!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thank you, decision made, going for the Note Air 3 C after all! I'm completely new to eink devices. I have used your affilliate link above for Boox shop, took me to US/Hong Kong shop so from there, then went on to Euro shop link for UK as I wanted all the extras which you can't get when buying it through amazon. Hopefully, the Euro shop link still links back to you, I hope so as I know you put a lot of time, thought and energy into making these invaluable videos. Much gratitude to you Kitt for all that you do. 🙏
@@emmags7882 thanks so much, and please let me know how you find the device! 🙂
Interesting discussion. I believe the keyboard option on the Tab Ultra C Pro is not the best for a premium tablet. They should have gone for a magic keyboard style design or even copy the remarkable approach. If I have to make a choice, the Note Air 3 C would be easy.. My focus is on something for productivity and notetaking without stress. Boox makes really good hardware but as they try to get more premium, they are competing more with Apple, Lenovo, Samsung and other bigger players. Can they develop a compelling story outside of just being eink to flourish long term? It all comes back to the software ecosystem. Seems supernote could be coming with new hardware soon.
Love this, agree on both points. This style of case looks as though it'll be difficult to use on your lap. 🙂
what is supernote?

I agree about the keyboard but remember that it is sold separately, and the choice of the TUC Pro (vs the Note Air 3c or vs an LCD Android tablet) should not in principle hinge on buying the keyboard. Personally, I have no interest in it, definitely not for EUR170, and even if it was EUR30 I would still not be interested because of its ridiculous weight - 507g, i.e. more than the device itself!! - and the even more ridiculous fact that it only works in one direction. For a fraction of that price you can get a premium typing quality, light keyboard and use it at any distance from the device you like and in any orientation.
Thank You Kit,
That was useful... Couldn't choose between the two for weeks now... This helped. And the fact that there is no bundle option for Tab Ultra C Pro with Keyboard. So for EU it's 700€ tablet and 170€ keyboard which is 870€ total. Waaaay to much! Besides that, weird thing is, I logged in as soon as the Pro was listed and the keyboards were immediately labeled as "sold out" as soon they were listed... So You can't even buy the keyboard even if You don't mind the moneys... Weird... I don't know if it's a bug or a real thing. Maybe they sold all of the keyboards already at Chinese market. How can you not have keyboards in the same moment they are listed for selling..?
Yeah, that might be a good reason to choose the Note Air 3C really as that turns into quite an expensive package. Not sure about the cases but hopefully there will be more along soon!
yeh it is close to a notebook price which would be too much for still developmental tech@@KitBetts-Masters
Another EU person here. I had exactly the same thought process as you. But then I realized that actually you can treat yourself to a high-end mini Bluetooth keyboard for a fraction of the price and weight of the Boox one for a great typing experience at any angle and setup. So in the end I'm relieved that the Pro is not bundled with the keyboard case. Hope that helps!
I was going to buy the NA3C via your affiliate links, but this link (incl. the reference to you) only leads to the US shop. Since I am situated in Germany, I would order from the EU shop, but when clicking the link to the Euro shop your reference gets lost.
Do you have an affiliate link to the EU/UK shop site?
Hiya, thanks, I think maybe they only have affiliate partnership for the US and UK shop. No worries! The Amazon link should work for EU/UK, but if the price is better through Boox Euroshop go there, and thanks for trying. Let me know how you get along with your device! 🙂
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for your response in lightning speed! I'll order it from the BooxEuroShop then, sorry, because the bundle deal with the cover is great. (Maybe you can make that affiliate partnership work from the EU/UK shop in the future; I'll gladly point people towards your channel as the devices did spark a lot of interest at school and in my circle of friends and colleagues, who then of course like to inform themselves, which your great videos are really helpful for!)
As for the device: Oh, I'm very confident that I'll love it! Things on the e-ink front escalated very quickly since the summer here, as my children (9th and 10th grade) both use Tab Ultra Cs at school now (the use of tablets with handwriting input is encouraged there for older students, but not mandatory; about half of the 32 children in each of their classes use devices such as Samsung tablets or iPads; the devices need to have a colour screen and a camera). I have a Nova Air 2 and an old Max 2 already and use them so much, that the cost per hour is dropping day by day.
My take on cost, for all things in life, is that everything that costs me less than 1 € per hour in the long run is going to be "cheap/worth it" (take a cheap 5 € ballpoint you never use vs. an expensive fountain pen that accompanies you through the rest of your life, and the initial investment becomes less and less prohibitive and more and more sensible). Since I have used and will continue to use these device a lot more than I thought I would (and see how they hold up with the old Max 2), I am very confidant that I won't regret the purchase.
Has Boox sorted the text highlighter yet?
What I mean is, does the highlighter still highlight *over the text* obscuring it rather than under?
No, it's not sorted yet. Well it's ok for highlighting text in books, but not your handwriting!
@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks for that, appreciated.
So PDFs and eBooks... just not handwriting at the moment. For all their innovations and leaps forward, I'm surprised they haven't sorted that, but I'm sure it must be in the pipeline somewhere.
I was ready to pull the trigger on Note Air 3c and use it for work, however, I did some research on security and it turned out that from a privacy and security perspective Onyx are quite unreliable and considering that In would have confidential company information on there was the dealbreaker for me. I went with RM 2, which is purely a notebook and at least I am certain it complies with EU regulations
Anything that relies on cloud for data storage and management is not sufficient if your work requires confidentiality. Unless that cloud storage is end-to-end encrypted, mind you, and those bits are open source. Even then, that may not be sufficient depending on your level of confidentiality needed. So. Remarkable or Supernote are probably better options for those use cases. That being said, I believe the Boox can be used without Internet and with cloud storage turned off. So, that is worth exploring.
Most reviewers don't go into too much depth for how bad the performance of colored e-ink is right now. It is important for people who are picking up a colored e-ink device for the first time. The Kaleido 3's display is kinda like what you see on the older newspaper (in the 80s and 90s): paper is more greyish than white, while the color image is dull and not crisp at all. In addition, it is kinda slow. This is just the limit of the current e-ink technology, and I am afraid that is the trade off for protecting your eyes...
Hiya, yeah I talk about that all the time. It's like newsprint! And I still think that the pure black and white screens are a little better for just text reading and writing. 🙂
Hopefully one day we'll get ful CMYK eink which is fast enough for use on a tablet!
That is also the beauty of i-ink. It's not just your eyes, it slows you down, and that is not a bad thing. Also, the e-ink as a character of image, that is that of a newspaper, which I quite like! Manga for me looks really cool most times, as a note device it's quite excellent for me! I do recognise that it's not worth the value, as it is very expensive for what it is and it's performance. On the other hand, I feel like it was the best 650 euros I've spent in the last year's, it's always with me and use it everyday, and with this, I use less phones and computers 😅. If however you are looking for just a tablet with less impact in your eyes, you'll be disappointed
@@luisfilipelopes2900THIS! The fact that eink is slower is exactly why I switched from a regular tablet to the boox tab - it helps me to focus, to not constantly switch apps, it cannot display the "shiny" pictures and "smooth animations" that app creators and advertisers use to catch our attention.. at the same time it is fast enough to browse the web, and even watch videos (if it is not an action movie of course). For me it is just a wonderful device, especially since Kaleido 3!
The hardware of both are great. However, the software is not intuitive. It is complex and takes a long time to figure out. Also, it is difficult to cross-platform Notes. Boox need to make the experience more user friendly.
I agree there is more to do there. I do think that they have come along way, and as an android user on phone I feel very at home there! But yeah, they could make some things more straightforward in their notes app for example. 🙂

Bought Tab Ultra C Pro . Nothing is Pro about this thing. Writing experience is VERY BAD. Noteshelf 3 on Ipad is years a head ; better response , much better letancy , much better accuracy , much much better app.
I use sensetivity on , 0.7 thicknes , fountain pen on the noteshelf 3 on my Ipad as a normal handwriting and the results are much more precise and easier to write and much better print results then the Boox.
You tube Vlogers don't tell you the all truth. The E ink devices sucks for writing.
I was a fool to buy it.
TRY BEFORE YOU BUY - BOTH IPAD PEN ON NOTESHELF 3 AND E- INK DEVICE AND SEE FOR YOUSELF !!!
