But being an ex big block driver owner & 70 Cuda 440 ^ pack 4 spd owner they didn't get away from the Guys who knew how to drive them . Oh and never mix Beer with a Yenko Nova ...

    Appreciate the fact that Chevy loaded all these L72 427 Nova's w/L78's when they left the factory in Warren, MI. evidenced by the emissions tune-up decal on the fan shroud. Notwithstanding the cold start, it's obviously in need of lifter adjustment.

      The Nova couldn't be ordered from the factory with a 427. They had to be ordered with a 396 and then engine swapped at Yenko. The Camaro and Chevelle could be ordered with the 427s through COPO.

    • @brodywankenobi66

      @@browningchannel exactly. Chevy wasn't going to have to deal with the liability of putting a 427 in a nova so yenko had to swap in the 427s. In 1970 he ordered all the lt1 novas through copo though.

    Awesome car, so good that I bought it. Now residing in Melbourne, Australia. For those wondering, it is a clone built from a genuine 396 SS (came with the build sheet). 427 engine came out of a 67 or 68 Corvette. Due back from a complete rebuild in the next fortnight.

    This car is one pristine example and at the right auction, would likely bring between $350,000 to $500,000 for an original, numbers matching car. Thanks to guys like the owner of this vehicle, we have the opportunity to see and hear what one was like back in the day. Respect! Would love to have witnessed a spirited road test in the car but certainly, I understand him not wanting to put it on the street. In 1975, I bought a 1970 Nova SS 396/375 and then had some professional modifications made to it. With 8” slicks, it was a high 11 second car and also was my daily driver. I can only imagine what it must have been like to drive one of the Yenkos! 🤪

    • @JW...-oj5iw
      @JW...-oj5iw Před 4 lety

      Absolutely not. A sleeper looks like milk toast. This car has all the external appearance of a burner. Spoke mags showing disc brakes. Yenko graphics. 427 fender badges. I suppose Ray Charles might not know what it has.

  • @anthonynelson9136
    @anthonynelson9136 Před 3 lety +2

    Through the years I have been able to get up close and personal with three legit 427 Yenko Novas and I would bet the farm and a grand that this is a clone. All three of the other Yenkos had Stewart Warner tachometers. This car has a factory 5500 redline tach next to the speedo. The others all had a bench seat and not buckets. Yenko never offered the 427 Nova in Butternut yellow. Looking at some other aspects whoever did the paintwork on this car was a real screwup. When you look at the paint on the firewall it should extend up to the rubber gasket on the cowl instead of the cheezy job they did painting this car. Also, they painted the door latch in the driver's door when it was re-painted. The owner has a classic car dealership in Phoenix Az and if he is uneducated enough to claim this car is for real he is in the wrong business.

    Always dreamed of a nice V8 Nova as a kid, guess I knew I could never afford a Corvette. Always liked that body style. You would think that 427 would just twist up the little Nova frame like a pretzel, I'm guessing the Yenko upgrades must have included to frame modifications.

    • @GlassTopRX7
      @GlassTopRX7 Před 6 lety

      It's the same front subframe as the 1st gen Camaro with a rear uni-body. They can handle loads of power, way more than a stock L72 can dish out. The biggest problem was with the crappy leaf spring rear suspension that was prone to wheel hop without traction bars.

    • @JW...-oj5iw
      @JW...-oj5iw Před 4 lety

      @@GlassTopRX7 ... Totally agree. My son is in the process of rejuvenating the '71 I gave him. He wrecked it somehow and the differential spit out the U-joint yoke. I had replaced the worn out 307 with a freshened '65 327. It was faster than the original brakes were meant for. Anyway, the rear axle is right now, and I guess he's going to get a stroker 383 engine. The 350 transmission was rebuilt a long time back, but should be fine for the time being. Definitely going to keep the single leaf springs from winding up.

    My favorite of all the Chevy iron block 427 Yenko/COPO cars. The 69 427 Yenko Nova was quicker in the 1/4 mile than both the 427 Yenko Camaro and Chevelle. Not a huge Chevy fan but that's a BAD machine right there. Chevy refused to install the L72 427 in the Nova from the factory because of safety concerns...which doesn't make sense because they had no problem dropping the L72 427 into Camaro's...which weren't much heavier than a Nova
