FX Impact .22 vs FX Impact .30 Hunting Squirrels

  • This video is about my FX Impact in both .22 and .30 calibers taking ground squirrels with precision head shots. The .22 is running 32.8gr XLHP slugs at an average speed of 1031 FPS. The .30 cal is running 54.5gr HP slugs at 940 FPS.
    Let me be clear, I only have one Impact but I have three barrel kits for it. It started life as a .357. I now go back and forth between .22 and .30 calibers. I initially started with an Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 FFP. I then went to an Element Helix 6-24x50 FFP, which is a great scope with an amazing reticle. I recently switched to the Blackhound due to it's compatibility with the GoPro scope cam system.

    re your question: the .22 has a fpe of 77.40. then the .30 has an fpe of 110.34 . down range it is normal for the heavier slug to retain more fpe than the lighter slug. there in is the answer. My opinion is that the 22 is more than enough for the task in hand. nice video thanks, i enjoyed it.

    As to which caliber hits harder: Although I could detect no difference in concussion on impact in the video, experience tells me there is a vast difference in power when comparing ~75 fpe and >110 fpe. In any event, I'd say both those tunes were overkill based on the pass-throughs I saw.
    I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work.
    P.S. I will indeed look into obtaining a Blackhound scope for use on my 6.5 Creedmoor (for White-tail deer -- season starts here in mid-November).

      I got 77/FPE on the .22 and 107/FPE on the .30 and as far as overkill, slugs shoot best (especially at range) at higher speeds for stabilizing the projectile. At least it’s humane dispatching which is never a bad thing. Better too much than not enough IMHO as long as the backdrop is safe

      My Impact was originally a .357 and it’s deadly accurate. I chose to get the .357 as a base platform because of the power delivery. The best part as that you can still take that powerful platform to lower calibers if you chose with different barrel kits. Thanks for watching.

    Awsome shooting. Quick question. I was helping out a friend clear out some ground squirrels in central CA. I had to use none lead pellets. I couldn't use slugs because of the California Condor protection law (stupid).
    Are you shooting in CA? I know you're out west in Ventura County. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    • @masongrey1321
      @masongrey1321 Před 2 lety +2

      California state says no lead ammo, lot of guys think that doesn't pertain to airguns but it does, lead ammo is lead ammo the only difference in lead ammo from a airgun and lead ammo from a rifle is gun powder, since the gun powder is not what's killing the condor and the lead is then there's no difference. That's California statue. Written into law, but airgunners keep using lead ammo and think they are omitted from the law and they aren't. If they ever get caught they will face the mandatory 20 thousand dollar fine or 5 year imprisonment as a powder burner shooter, and the crazy part is , they are easy b to track down because the videos are here on CZcams. Once reported or they find out, they start the surveillance procedure and go in and check the guns, these guys are either brave, ignorant to the law, or they just don't care, either way its only a matter of time before they are caught. Ask Randall Montgomery who is serving a 2 year sentence because a condor was found dead in a area where only he shoots, and guess what he was shooting, an airgun, and guess what he said, I thought airguns were exempt, and he was told lead is lead, quoted from Mark fingers the guy that was with him when he was arrested.

    • @terrydaniels8195
      @terrydaniels8195 Před 2 lety

      I have thousands of bullets made of lead. What do I do with them now?
      How will wildlife officers check for compliance?
      What about target shooting or firearms for personal protection?
      !!!!!!!Are pellet rifles included in the lead ammunition ban?!!!!!!!
      !!!!!!!Since pellet rifles are not firearms, the use of lead projectiles in pellet rifles is not prohibited.!!!!!!!
      How does this affect private lands and landowners?
      How does this affect depredation permits?

      I’m running a 700cc bottle. Never really counted but a little under 2, 28 round magazines.

    I think the .22 is hitting hardest. It’s straight rocking their domes.

    The vk slugs are devastating try the 34 grain .25 at 1050 it just destroys stuff. The NSA is a great slug but not even close in terms of expansion

    The .22 is giving the energy at that speed of 77 fp and the .30 110 fp the .30 caliber maintains more energy at long distances for the superior weight, I could not say which hits the strongest because in such small animals it does not deliver all the energy on the impact, because it passes through the animal and energy is wasted so it depends on the projectile, with the softer lead being the one that expands better and delivers more energy at the moment of impact.
