One of the best fantasy series I’ve ever read! He is the master

I’m loving this series so far. I’m about to start the final book in the trilogy. Logen is definitely my favorite character!

I'm so happy you're enjoying this series. Joe Abercrombie is tied with Robin Hobb as my favourite fantasy author. Love the fact that the book club is giving me an excuse to reread.

Thank you for your honesty - I really appreciate that we're all different, and there's a book out there for everyone. But also that not everyone will like every book. I appreciate the review. 🎉

Just finished the book today and immediately came to watch the rest of this vid 😊 next up will be watching the liveshow!
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book. I feel like I was really into it and flying through it and enjoying it quite a lot but then the last 150 pages or so was a slower read for me. I think it is around a 3.75/4 star read for me but we'll see after I sit on it more.
Like you, I really love the humor in these books, and I appreciate the character progression. Logan is my fav, I still also really like Glokta. Jezal is less awful than I found him in book 1, though he still isnt my fav haha. But I appreciate his development.
I am intrigued to see where things go with book 3!

I would argue that you should put aside your expectations of a plot in the traditional sense. The First Law world is more on characters& themes. It’s society: cycles of power, allusions of control, the brutality and senselessness of war, progress, etc.

I'm glad you're enjoying the series! I started the book a month ago, read 30%, and failed to continue. I'm on the fence about DNFing, because everyone loves Abrecrombie, but I hate when books are long for no reason, and this is one of those cases. I'm invested in the world and some of the characters, but I don't know if I'm invested enough to finish a second book that still reads like an introduction

I felt the same and left it for a month and read other books but came back and restarted it and enjoyed it and am now on the third and while I really enjoy the dialogue, character interactions and the writing is first class I do miss a clear plot line. But I am determined to go on because I feel their will be a good reward at the end.

Mostly just excited to be one book closer to done with this trilogy. Hoping the third one pays off

I finished the first two books and 1/3 of the final book in the trilogy last year before I admitted defeat.
As a plot-driven reader, it was pretty miserable for me. I even re-read ~200 pages 3x _per book,_ convinced it was me who was missing the plot, rather than the book not having any. But based on reading spoilers/fan wikis/etc -trying to hype myself up to finish the series- I don't think a plot develops by the end.
I liked when the one dude pushed the other dude off the cliff, though 🤷

The greatest scene in all of literature was in the second first law trilogy book, right after a raid gone wrong, sand dan glokta is faced with a rare sensation, practicals more broken and battered than himself. This excites him! He tells them to follow him, and with some pain and effort, they do so. Upon noticing this, he picks up the pace. He notes mentally that it hurts him to do so.... but it hurts her more!
I mean COME ON @MeMyshelfAndI !!!!!!!!!!!!! Have you ever encountered a character so spectacularly bitter and spiteful as Sand Dan Glokta?!???!?!?!? It's like a living hologram off the page, how could you not be entranced by the spectacle ?@!??

I just finished this book today. Didn’t feel like there was much going on though. I’ve ordered the third but if that doesn’t pay off I probably won’t be continuing with the rest of his books
