Buying the plans isn’t strictly necessary, but it’s a terrific way to show our appreciation for these fun and useful projects.
Thank you very much.
I agree!
Excellent point. These videos get my creativity going.
Reference Wilson from Home Improvement
😬
Hi-de ho neighbor!
@@Wheels2183brought to you by …. #BinfordTools 🔨🛠⚒️🔧🪛🪚🗜⛏
Ain’t that right Heidi ? Heidi ho!
Reference was Wilson from Tool Time! New subscriber here. My dad got me started watching your videos recently. He and I do a lot of dad-and-daughter projects together (he’s teaching me to use tools…I’m turning 56 in a couple of weeks but better late than never) and we have been motivated by your “‘smalls” series. Thanks for the great content!
The little comments and humor throughout really make it enjoyable to watch :) It's like we're right there with ya! Love it
Heidy-ho neighbor! I loved Home Improvement. I'm 34 and still remember that show. One of the best parts is where Tim is trying to teach the boys table manners and Brad says that they'll eat live chicken and Tim says Brad who the hell do you hang out with? Then Randy tells their mom that he said hell and damn, but Tim says I did not say damn and without hesitation randy says now you did. 😂
Lol it’s a classic!
You rock! I’ve made and sold with great success many of your projects. Thank you for all the videos. I have used so many cedar fence pickets that all the stores know me on a first name.
I even sell the cedar dust in small cloth sewn pillows for folk clothes drawers and other places. Keep up the great work.
Great idea!
That is a fantastic idea.
Also, I have a kid who loves snakes, & uses some of my sawdust/shavings as part of the snake's terrarium
@@dottyjyoung Well try to keep in mind that cedar sawdust is actually toxic...I would avoid using it around small animals in confined spaces.
@@Clark42EoC Yeah we use some cedar shavings in our horse stalls to help keep flies and such away. And it makes the stall smell better lol
@@Clark42EoC Yes, you're exactly right, & I don't use cedar for that. :)
Hey Wilson. One of my all time favorite shows lol. Great video and can't wait for the next one.
Thank you!
Thank you. i couldn't remember the guys name!!!
You could've given it away and showed the ball. Lol. Like you Wilson was full of so much wisdom.🤙 I dig your videos man. Keep up the awesome work. 👏
Amazing look! One of the best teacher on CZcams, thank you for the clear explanations!
I’m glad to do it. Thank you for watching!
wilson was great, a lot of wisdom behind that fence!
Hidy ho Matt! I’m making at least one of these for my brother in laws wife. She said she wanted something for her herbs on one side of her house. This video couldn’t have come at a better time. You are man of great wealth and I’m glad you share it with all of us. Thank you!!!!
Have you made this yet? If so, how many fence pickets did it take? I'm at the box building phase right now and can not figure out how he got all of those parts out of 3 fence pickets. Neither can the cutlisst optimizer website. It's looking like I'll need at least 6 but ran out of free calculations for the day. Confused since he only showed 3 pickets.
I'm building this now and used 6 fence pocket posts
Looks like it would make a great cat hotel as well. Nice work!!
Lap joints! My favorite! The first thing I ever learned to do with a circular saw!
The local box store thinks I'm building the biggest fence ever since I've bought so many fence pickets after finding your channel! LOL
Thank you for that painter's tape as zero clearance idea. That's neat!
You have the most soothing voice to listen to through my headphones, lol I do enjoy watching all of your videos and have begun my arsenal of tools so that I can start making projects to sell and make some extra income doing what I love. Thank you so much!!!
This is awesome. i love planters and would love if these were in a playlist ❤
Love the reference to tool time. Wish you were my neighbor looking over my fence.
Despite your constant disrespect for my favorite pie, another great video. I just finished making the martin birdhouse you built. Think i will do this one next. Thanks so much Matthew.
You keep coming through! Another excellent project! Happy Fathers Day!!
Thank you!
Congratz on reaching 400k subscribers Matt. Thoroughly deserved. Well done!!! 👏
Thanks a ton!
Another great video Matthew, I think I’ll try this one, thanks for sharing bud.
Thank you!
Happy Father’s Day Matt!!
Thank you very much
Love the Wilson W. Wilson, Jr., Ph.D reference ha ha.
😬
Did not know about the knot acting like a spring. I have come across this situation, and was totally confused by what the cause was. THANK YOU!
Thank You Matt for another great video!!!
My pleasure!
Great, clear videos and nice presenting style…………a natural teacher
Thank you! 😃
Some of these build videos, your voice is so peaceful, it's like watching Bob Ross do woodworking.
Yes he is in my playlist when im going to sleep. Listening to saws and a soft voice helps me sleep
But i also love all his builds and have actually seen probably all his videos
Howdy Matt! WILSON! Great show... Love this project. Thanks for sharing! 🤠
Nice planter build, Wilson!
You are the bomb. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!!
Great video and build. Thanks for sharing
Can you comment (or make a video!) about how you prep your fence pickets? The ones I'm seeing at all of the big box stores around me are much thinner than their quoted 5/8ths and have a really rough surface that needs to be smoothed (thus losing more thickness, how does this fit into your plans?), and are often all filled with splits to work around. Does the more realistic 1/2 inch size impact your build plans? Do you sand or plane your pickets or are you just getting nicer pickets in your area? etc
Hahaha Wilson! Xennials unite! I was also wondering about a 3 box planter, so thank you 😊
No worries!
Another great idea thanks for sharing
Great reference to Wilson from Home Improvement
Pretty work!!
Thank you!
Very nice! Thank you!!
another great project / video. Appreciate it.
Trim head screws are great for the the end plates
Love the video! Those end pieces would look great with the sigil from House of El and Superman burned into it or painted in....
Happy Fathers Day dudes. My local (Central Fl.) Stores are still OOS for cedar pickets but shipping bundles 10 days out. Anyway, went on a 45min search and I was surprised that incense cedar is actually an evergreen. 🎄
Tool Time. Love all of your videos. my friend.
Felix
Thx for video, great idea! With planting season arriving here in Nashville this was a perfect addition to the deck for wifes Herbs. I used Trex for planters which created some challenges for sure. Cheers
Perfect!
Great idea for the zero gap with the painters tape
Thank you!
Hidey-Ho Neighbor 👋🏼 I see we're building some planter boxes today. Did you know The first original orange planter boxes were invented during the 17th century by La Quintinie and André Le Nôtre. 😂🤘🏼🛠️🪚
Wood box is fun
I really need to get a mitre saw station set up so I can start building some of these amazing little projects. Pretty sure there would be a big market here in Adelaide South Aus for smalls like these.
Keep up the great work Matt
Great reference!
Nice new ink 👍
this is great. youre really making me think i can start this. do you have a video on like 5-8 tools to get started?
KILROY !!! Blasted autocorrect!
That reference would be Wilson Wilson from Home Improvement!
Lol 🫣
Thank you for making these projects easy to follow 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for the video and all your videos. They are very easy to understand and your plans are well drawn up. I bought the plans and maybe I was misreading them or listening to the video wrong but it seem like some of you measurements in the video were different thank in the plans, on the leg part. I think I got it figured out and the boxes are cut just have to put them together tomorrow.
Home improvement of course!!
Yes!
I noticed you using pocket hole screws inside the planter. Any issue with them deteriorating? For outdoor things I've used before for pocket screws were the same ceramic coated deck screws. Idk which is best just curious what you've seen
Hidey Ho good neighbour. Another great video, thank you very much.
My pleasure.
I think you might have made a mistake on the brace notch measurement. I made this planter using the 5 9/16 as stated and it was 1 inch to long. For me 4 9/16 worked. Love your videos! I make alot of your things Thanks!
If you do this, buy the plans. They are different than in the video. When buying fence pickets make sure to look at thethickness of them and get the ones close to 5/8s than 1/2
Do miss your motivation talk at the end of builds 🙂
Hi-de-ho (Tim) neighbor. Classic Wilson.
Hidey Ho Neighbor...I can't believe no one else (as far as I saw) got the Wilson reference...even though you have a Castaway "Wilson" in your shop...no one got that it was Wilson from Home Improvement...
Wilson says he will make this!
Just for clarity, he did a counter-sink, not a counter-bore. A c-sink is angled to where a c-bore is the same diameter all the way down.
Wow! This was tip packed! I love it. Quick question, do you have to lean this against a structure? Or will it free stand? Thank you again for everything you do for the community and Patreon.
It will free stand.
Oddly, wasn't Wilson also the name of the volleyball in Castaway? Howdy ho neighbor.
Lol yes it was.
Go Stickley
So satisfying
Wilson and everytime I work with fence pickets I do the same thing lol.
My second project ive built of yours and your explanations and tils are extremely helpful. Thank you for helping us beginners.
Hidey ho good neighbor! Lol you just didn't want to feel old alone lol
Counterbores are square, those are countersinks, just an FYI...
I love your work and am getting ready to build this for my wife so we can plant some daisies.
I'm also going to be building your concealment hat rack, actually 2 of them. One for my son and one for my daughter.
I am sure you don't mind but I drew them in my AutoCAD in about 15 minutes each so I have a hard copy and sheet layout for cutting.
I'll post something on my page showing my progress and results, tagging you, of course!
Hey Mr. Wilson!!
🫣
Hi Matthew,
Really enjoying your videos and finding really good inspiration. I could I ask your advice and get your opinion of whether my next purchase should be a router or pocket hole jig kit?
Please keep the videos coming 👍
I so enjoy your presentation. Thanks for the ease of your explanation. What kind of microphone do you use? What kind of camera do you use? Do you have any recommendations for tools for ease of use? I'm a disabled veteran and fight with the equipment in my shop. It's like going to camp, every day is a new adventure. Again, thanks for your hard work.🤪
4:59 it's Mr. Wilson from the show Home Improvement 😂😂😂 I'm old too i guess😂❤
Derby Pie!
Hi Wilson
Hey Matthew,? I made your five tiered planter came out great. Now I need help or some thing going on with the three tiered planter .I made one ,but the top box is way to high to the side leg like 3" . and the bottom two box leg and the brace is also like 2" short. I went over all my measurements and they look all good . Thanks Roy ( anyone can help here .
Mr. Wilson!!
Home improvement reference! 😂😂
Great video!! Did you have a ball park on the material price and finished price? Thanks for any info, great channel!!
Loving these videos! I’m just getting back into woodworking, trying to find simple builds to try to sell to help with income. I’ve never used pocket holes and I just got a jig today. Are there specific screws or bits to use? Especially for fence picket material?
Thanks for asking. I did a video for kreg about 8 months ago explaining a little more about pocket hole joinery- I’m going to post the link here but if you can’t click in it, go to kreg a you tube page and find the video from me 8 months ago. Hope that helps. czcams.com/video/FPFA21ARLZQ/video.html
Definitely want to make this! What or how would you suggest to cut down boards (and make them as straight as possible) without having a table saw? My skills with a circular saw are NOT good enough to do that without ruining things.
Wilson. Home Improvement.
Idk how to get over my fear of table saws. Anytime I use the fence I get kickbacks regardless of how straight I push through I have no clue what I do wrong lol
Fence pickets are not been available in my area... for months now. What other boards would you recommend I use to rip down with my New table saw?
"So I don't feel as old..." We are old buddy! Embrace it.
Lol ok ok
Love your builds man!! Is this something you ship?
Thank you. I would only make it for local selling. It is heavy and would be very expensive to ship.
You’re awesome. And your subscriber count reminds me of retirement.
Lol thank you.
Howdy ho neighbor Matt.
Question for you. How do you keep your fence pickets from warping so fast after cutting. Cut some redwood pickets yesterday, walk back out today and 1/3 of the bowed overnight. Trying to find dry ones, but nearly impossible with how fast stock rotates in stores.
I’m also considering building a rustic desk out of fence pickets that I recently saw at Hobby Lobby, except I want wooden legs, not the hairpin style they had. Any suggestions?
For the boxes themselves... would exterior wood glue and Brad nails not be sufficient to hold them together?
Not sure where you got 5 9/16 for your braces. I cut them to that dimension and it was more than an inch shorter than the rear. Maybe it’s right in your plans you sell. I had to cut them 4 1/2 from the end to get them to even out unless I’m doing something wrong. Also it might be worth mentioning to cut the other side on the opposite side of all the boards so the lap seams don’t show outwards. Love your videos and your enthusiasm and you have given me the confidence to make something. Thanks for all you do.
I'm so glad you mentioned the 5 and 9/16ths. I had the same situation.
Hey Neighbor! Home Improvement
Yes!
Hey Wilson
The neighbor from Tim the tool man show!😂
Wilson 🫣
Kilroy 🙂 Right?!? You're peeking above the fence reference. Or... Tim, the tooltime guy's neighbor?
Hidey-ho neighbor!
