Great bot demonstration. Yes, while the card draw for the cats seemed so improbable, your good nature through the slaughter was still informative and enjoyable to watch. 😀
This is great! Just got the game, only played once with my wife (she was Marquise and I was Eyrie - she beat me but I feel like I had a real shot and screwed up and went into Turmoil unexpectedly near the end of the game) but I feel like I really know it well. I have been reading lots and watching lots. I just found out about the better bots. This seems like a real game changer for the two of us. I think it might be fun to let the cats and birds fight it out and maybe my wife and I can see who is the better Vagabond...
Thank you for the honest play through. Its refreshing to see a game where all the rolls and card draws are NOT magically, obnoxiously, unrealistically favorable which I feel I see too often. This makes me want to bust out Root and give it another go after being totally disappointed with the official solo variant. Thanks again!
Wait, people CHEAT in solo playthroughs? That’s the silliest thing I’ve heard :). Just watch my Deep Space D-6 play to prove that I suffer honestly for the channel! PS - this game is the best. Just played as Woodland Alliance vs Eyrie and Marquise. It was intense!
@@OneStopCoopShop I just finished printing all the better bot stuff, very excited! And I appreciate your suffering. I post my own suffering on my channel and hope that other channels realize that winning seemingly all the time is... weird. And a bit off-putting. You rock, and I personally find I am more interested in a game I lose more than win. So thanks again for your honesty.
Great that I could find this video. I am a solo player and have just played root solo with official rules...this is the worst solo mode I have ever played. Will try Better Bot and hope it will play better.
I knew nothing about this game beforehand and only play solo. It seems very complicated with multiple decision trees to follow. I still want it but not sure I'd be able to grasp the rules, let alone strategize in any way. What would be your thoughts and what level of replayability does this game have? Long time subscriber and this is now always my go to channel for anything board games. Thanks for an entertaining video.
I did a review video of the solo and co-op recently, so I'd start there - czcams.com/video/DnA89OP05B0/video.html But what I'll say is that you have a lot of control over how complicated you want it to be. For example, when starting out you can just have a 1v1 game. Marquis vs. Eyrie, for example, is probably the best way to start playing with the bots until you are comfortable. As for replayability, I find it ridiculously high. Switching which faction you play, which factions the enemy controls (especially if you are willing to print out the Better Bot Project files for expansion factions, how many are in play, etc. can change the whole feel of the play. Hope that helps!
Do you know if the official solo rules have been updated to make this game enjoyable? It looks really interesting. But I don't like using third party stuff other than for organization. (Just weird that way. Hate mods in video games too for some reason.)
Septen Decim I have the published official version now, and except for making things easier overall, it’s identical to what I’m showing here. I plan to do a coop playthrough and review sometime soon on the channel.
Technically yes, if you don’t want to print anything. But if you are willing to dig online some, you should be able to find the up to date boards and cards for the better bot project, which is where clockwork came from.
Absolutely! Just google "better bot project" and you'll find threads and files on boardgamegeek with everything you need. Leder Games does have official boards and rules now, with generally the same content, but I'm not sure how soon those will be able to be purchased.
I didn't go into detail on movement rules, but you can only move to a clearing if you rule the clearing you are moving FROM or moving TO. With 3 cat warriors and a building on the fox clearing, there was no way for me to get the 4 warriors there I would have needed to then move into the mouse clearing, at least no way I was able to see :)

Hahaha, thanks. They made the bots a BIT easier in the official clockwork expansion release, but they can still do a bit of slaughtering.
Nice instruction video! Really helped me get through how the bots work. Thanks a lot!

Yeah, game changer is right, at least that’s how it was for me. Hope you enjoy the bots when you try them!

The new official solo and coop play is SO much better. Feels like you are actually playing against an opponent a lot of the time.

@@OneStopCoopShop that's very helpful. I really appreciate you getting back to me and for all the great content you guys produce.
Thank for your work !
My pleasure!
Would you say The Clockwork Expansion thoroughly improved upon the Better Bot project?
Nope! See my review. I like having the official components, but I prefer playing with the updated BBP rules instead of the printed rules.
Hi, great video. Do you know if these mechanics are compatible with the The Riverfolk Expansion?
It is! They have bots for both expansion factions. Haven’t bought it myself yet though to try them out

Brutal luck on the cat's card draws. Will we see a cooperative video at some point?
Definitely not before the KS ends. I don’t have time to teach another player ;)
@@OneStopCoopShop Totally understand. You could always control both co-op factions?
Ha, funny that I didn’t even think of that. Could do a 2v2... which factions would face off?
I want to know if you need the clockwork expansion to play this?

Nice video, which version of the base game is this?
2nd edition, I believe
can i play this with root the base game?

Skip to 6:42 to jump to gameplay if you know how to play already.
Oh shoot, I’ve been forgetting to put time stamps in the video info. I’ll start adding them again. Thanks for the reminder!
Do u find that playing the cats its hard to win?
I’m playing with the updated rules (cats can save ALL warriors in a clearing with 1 card), but it’s still tough. The AI doesn’t play around!
oh no I meant that its hard to win if playing the cats against the electric eyrie@@OneStopCoopShop
Oh, haven’t tried them yet. I’ve won with eyrie, alliance, and vagabond
Couldn't you have moved from that Fox clearing to the mouse clearing and not go into turmoil?

@@OneStopCoopShopAh, gotcha. Thanks. You got really unlucky there, are you going to do another play at some point?
I might! It'd be cool to play a different faction, and maybe add the Vagabond AI in as well. It really changes up the entire thing :)
I@@OneStopCoopShop I would love to see that :)
Seems like a good game, alas, I find the artwork so repulsive I can't get myself to try it :(
I find it extremely charming. It was one of the first things that drew me to the game. But to each their own :)
I know, I am really sad about this, but I can't help it. :)
