  • I couldn't wait any longer to film Episode 2 of my new series, so here it is! This time I'm decluttering my extensive shoe, bag and jewellery collections. This one was definitely more difficult for me because I find a lot of happiness in a good shoe or bag, but I did it and it felt so amazing after! I appreciate all of the comments and messages I've been receiving from you guys telling me about your own minimalism journeys. Let's keep up the momentum together! xo

    Before you buy jewellery check the description to see if its "plated" "vermeil" "gold filled", all of these options will tarnish eventually but simply at different rates depending on how thick the layer of gold is. Here are some tips for NON-SOLID gold/rose gold/silver jewellery:
    -DONT get it wet
    -DONT get hand creams/ perfumes all over it
    -Take it off in the shower/ bath/ the beach/ pool (no matter if its solid or not)
    I highly HIGHLY recommend buying solid gold jewels on Etsy I have MAAAANNNY pieces from various vendors (make sure u check each individual's store rating and reviews before purchasing (they can also make custom adjustments for u if you send them a message) A lot of the time it won't cost much more in a lot of cases it will cost less since a lot of the items are made to order and if u ask for something but shorter or smaller ur likely to save money.

    Jewellery tarnishes when it comes into contact with the air and moisture in the air so it is best to keep it stored in an airtight place. Although it looks nice on the hanging stand it isnt the most practical for increasing the lifespan of your jewellery 💕

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  Před 4 lety +5

      Thank you for sharing! I do love the way they look on the stand so I can't bring myself to put them all in a box, but I'm definitely going to be more mindful of switching out my pieces every once in a while so they don't tarnish so quickly.

      I was going to comment saying this too! Some jewelers will have instructions on their site on how to best maintain their jewelry, but I echo this comment! ☝️ Also Allana Davison has a video on her jewelry and how she stores it and didn't realize leaving them out would tarnish them, even if they are good quality pieces💛

      @TheSlightestChic Před 4 lety +2

      You can also clean the jewelry that is tarnished with a polishing cloth. You can get them at jewelry stores and most big box retailers.

    Yay! More progress! So excited for your journey toward living and owning things more intentionally. I'd love to see you revisit these spaces after you get more accustomed to this lifestyle and see if you find you want to keep even less than you did this time! I've taken so many passes through my closet, and I know in my heart that I still have too much.

      Thank you so much for your support! I will certainly be doing updates, every few weeks or so as this will be an ongoing series on my channel. There is definitely a limit of how much I'm willing to get rid of though, because my content is based on fashion quite a bit so I do need at least some variety to continue doing what I'm doing ;)

    I’ve enjoyed the video. The bags (flat bottomed) you thought maybe you’d put in dust bags to corral them-may want to stuff them-this is how I help my bags keep their shape. I stuff them all the way down to their corners and it seems to work well.

    Just a tip: I would’ve kept the left over hangers, just incase the hangers that are being used got broken. You could have extra so you don’t have to go out and purchase new ones. Regardless, your decluttering videos are great. I adore the calm aesthetic of your room. 🥰

    I just clean the tarnish off 😆 if I put the jewelry away I will literally never wear it. I keep it out so I can enjoy looking at it and see what I have to choose from. I do stick to solid metals though-silver and copper 💜

    I'm also a shoe size 5 (sometimes 4.5) and went through the same struggle! I used to buy lots of shoes that weren't my size because they just don't have it and they ended up just sitting in my closet!

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you! Yes the brand is Mejuri, however after a good clean the pieces went back to their normal shine. It was an issue on my part, I had left them out in the open too long!

    Most jewellery can be cleaned rubbing it with sodium bicarbonate, specially silver one. Or just be washed with gentle soap and then drained with a cloth 😉

    If you are afraid of giving away shoes and then regretjng it, you coud just put them in box or bag and leave it for some time in your house, if you never reach for them after that it's time for them to go

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  Před 4 lety +3

      Thanks for the suggestion! I was actually doing this so I would have less "stuff" and clutter around, so storing them in an alternate spot kind of defeats the purpose hehe. I definitely think this is a great idea for those who are clearing out their seasonal items though when they're not sure if they'll wear the items in the next few months!

    Try cleaning your jewelry with toothpaste and rubbing vigorously with a wash cloth- should be able to get the chains clean again. Even gold can tarnish, especially if you are storing them out in the hair on the hanging rack.

  • @viper1106
    @viper1106 Před 3 lety +2

    Great work! But know that shoes should NEVER be thrown away! The ones
    that are too worn out, broken, etc to donate because they simply cannot
    be worn anymore, can be RECYCLED instead! There are materials in some
    shoes, sneakers especially, that won't disintegrate for thousands of
    years! But they can be recycled! Never ever throw shoes in the trash!

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  Před 3 lety

      I totally agree! I've actually never had to "throw out" shoes, I just donate them since they never get to the point of unwearable condition.

      I appreciate your feedback! However, this is a part of my series about my journey to minimalism. And I prefer to explain what I’m doing rather than simply showing me declutter as I feel it does not provide enough value to those who are also trying to live with less and be intentional when decluttering and organizing. Thanks for watching though! 😜

    Living with less and living a minimalist life is very nice, but if ure a fashion blogger then I feel like you cut down on too many pairs. Ur lifestyle requires a lot of varieties of shoes, bags and everything fashion. It makes no sense decluttering soooooo much when ur job requires a lot.

    • @HaleyVillena
      @HaleyVillena  Před 4 lety +10

      I totally see where you're coming from because I used to think that way! This change I'm making is more than just decluttering, it's a mindset for me too. Fashion bloggers are not all "fast fashion and trends" like you might assume. My goal is to move toward a more minimal wardrobe so that I can share the many ways simple pieces can be styled, because it is possible! It also reflects my true style more. Owning lots of stuff does not define anyone as a "fashion blogger", it's more of what is done with the clothing and how it's styled that gives the title.

    • @akumsenlaaier7275
      @akumsenlaaier7275 Před 4 lety

      @@HaleyVillena that's great then. Cuz I just assumed by your previous videos that ur're a fast fashion blogger. I do subscribe to a lot of slow fashion bloggers, and urs didn't seem like on (to me).
      And yes, fashion is not defined by how many pieces you have or own. But again "i" felt that if you have to show ways on how to wear pieces in different ways, u might need a lil more than the amount you kept.
      But in the end, that's just my opinion. You do you.✌

    • @HerWanderlust
      @HerWanderlust Před 3 měsíci

      I think that’s the difference between being a style blogger and a fashion blogger! A fashion blogger needs all this stuff to keep up with trends that everyone else is copying, while a style blogger has focus and a look that is specific to their life and aesthetic.
