    how many thumbs up can I give you? Love the honest critique of yarns. I have had a few tears over the years where after countless hours of knitting sweater ends up like junk! As far as Iam concerned wool is the way to go for a quality project. I started watching your podcast because I also enjoy Selma Littlebigknits

    Kate, I don’t know if you’ll see this comment, made Dec 21, 2022 - but I really enjoyed your review of your favourite sweaters and the yarn you used. I learned a lot ie thinking of the durability of the yarn, and whether it’s a sweater yarn or best suited to something else, in other words - soft isn’t always the only thing to think about. You’re an amazing knitter, you’ve tried so many different styles. And I love the idea of press studs rather than buttons/button holes. I loathe those! But like cardigans. Looking forward to continuing to follow you next year.

  • @storyandstone
    @storyandstone Před 3 lety

    Thanks for showing us your collection Kate. Whilst I prefer not to use superwash wool, I have a few jumpers in it and if you maintain them right they don’t give you too much trouble. I wash mine in the machine on a cold wool cycle in a laundry bag using a wool wash. By keeping them in the bags they don’t stretch at all I have found. I do an extra spin cycle at the end to get rid of excess water (all still in the laundry bag) and then I lay flat to dry without blocking or stretching out. After all that is why superwash was created...to give you a yarn that can be machine washed. But saying that, I only wash my hand knits once a year. After each wear they get aired and every month or so, depending on wear, I steam clean them on the ironing board and then dry flat. 🙂

    • @HawthornCottageCraft
      @HawthornCottageCraft  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s what was so annoying about it stretching, knowing that superwash is meant to able to be washed! I always hand wash my sweaters which I thought would help. That’s a great tip about using the laundry bag....I’ll definitely have to remember that one. Thank you❤️

    • @storyandstone
      @storyandstone Před 3 lety

      @@HawthornCottageCraft I agree it is very annoying when they do stretch, especially because you’ve spent so much time creating the piece. 😊

The knitting pleasure is greater, and the resulting garment definitely worth the expense and effort!

    Kate you gave me such a good idea about button band. I also don't like creating button holes. Did you put on snap on buttons and sew on the button as decoration? I am going to do that from now on and get me out of button hole misery.

    • @HawthornCottageCraft
      @HawthornCottageCraft  Před 3 lety +1

      I used sew in snaps and then sewed the decorative button on the outside. It’s more time consuming but well worth it.❤️

    This was a real treat, not just the collection of sweaters but the info on how the yarns behaved. I have bought the Felix sweater and will be kniting it in Cartref Welsh yarn for sure. I hope to be wearing it for many years.
