    Good stuff. I am a hitting instructor for baseball/softball and realized some years ago that the golf and BB/SB swings were very similar just on different planes. I use a lot of comparisons of my journey to improve my golf swing with my hitters ti help them understand different positions of the swing in relation to what they are actually feeling. What I also recognized, with assistance fro my mentor, was that golf was probably 20-30 years ahead of BB/SB instructors in video analysis, data etc. There are a growing number of us that now use video and 'other' analytics/data to help hitters improve. What I also really like is that Eric, or someone from his staff respond to questions and comments. That is dedication and class, This is how I learn...thanks.

    Thanks, Eric. This was an aha lesson for me. I've watched a lot of videos about take aways and weight shift. But, intuitively I want to put weight on the left to get power into the through of my axe handle into the log where the ball is. I realize that is so wrong. I've been working hard at easing my down swing and coming from inside out. That has alowed me to actually hit draws for the first time in my life. But, I hadn't thought about how shifting my weight forward at the begining of my take away, similar to a chip swing, would help my ability to hit down into the ball then the ground. Dugh! The golf swing is definitely not a natural act for me. Thanks, again

    You produce the best golf coaching videos on the web. No doubt in my mind. This one has me confused! Really surprised at the suggestion that there is never less than 60% of weight on the forward foot. Been playing for 31 years, 5 h/c. Struggling with the concept. How can you push off the right foot, if the left foot is already loaded? Have I been putting too much emphasis on weight shift? When I hit a bad shot, I’m ahead of the ball too soon. Ball starts right and fades. Having watched this, I can’t stop thinking about the ‘hitting shots with feet together’ drill.

      Hey Flax!
      The idea would be you start 50/50 to 55/45 left (with an iron when ball is on ground and trying to hit ball first)
      Then there is a pressure shift to the right (away from the target).....but that is EARLY and done by about hip high in the backswing
      From there really the pressure and hips start moving more back TOWARD the target so that by the top they re bak to 50/50 or slightly toward target

    this is such a beautifully easy way to swing. steve keeps saying if he finishes right the rest of the swing HAD to work. that eliminates all the "clutter" in the brain. i have tried this this summer and i have issues with being too far left and on occasion fall back to the right. rrrrrrrrrr! i also get the feel at set up that the ball is way behind my head with a center ball position and the body tries to make corrections to get the clubhead back to the ball. what i get from this is that the legs form the "A" at the setup and the top then make all the movements from there on.
    perhaps i need to only include the "finish" position" in my pre-shot routine?

  • @maeu59

    I remember a video you did with Mike Malaska and he was saying how the hips move linear front to back and he never thinks about rotating the hips. This video has rotation and slide and looks a little stack and tilty, which one do you suggest or prefer?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety

      Hey!
      I would say that would be an oversimplification of the Mike video.
      We were talking about the back and forth in that video compared to linear.
      Of course there is linear. Everyone. Some more some less.
      Mike, Steve, Myself and any other coach would suggest the off the ball movement should only be to the point that they can get back forward from.
      Here is what I would suggest for hips for entire swing: czcams.com/video/sz652jg7nEw/video.html

    I love Eric Cogorno videos but here I slightly disagree. Especially for elder people (like me) a small shift of the head to the right helps to get pressure to the lower body and thus start the downswing properly. Trying to keep the head 100% in the same place is prone to create reverse pivot. I don't mean a big shift but around 5 cm max.

    Eric, curious if you’ve seen the drill with The Hanger where you remove the lower half of the hanger, and the hanger runs horizontally instead of the vertical orientation?
    It’s helped me as a right hand dominant golfer, a fault of mine can be overusing my right arm in backswing causing poor arm structure and corresponding compensations in the downswing. Anyway, one of my favorite training aids and the drill has really changed my Top of Backswing- I’ll prove it by joining Cogorno G 🤙🏻

    Hi Eric. Am I missing something here, or is this saying that the greater percentage of weight/pressure always remains on lead side throughout the backswing with irons? I thought that in the backswing the weight shifts to trail side up to maybe 70% and then back to lead side. Maybe I’ve got completely the wrong concept of weight transfer which could be why I struggle with solid contact on my irons and why my low point is behind the ball too often. Your answer could be a possible light bulb moment for me!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      Thats correct, Tim!
      Any of the weight shift to the right (away from target) is done by about 1/2 back in backswing
      From there you do not KEEP shifting away from the target....you actually (weight in your feet) start working TOWARD the target as the hips turn and move toward target to the point where you are back to 50/50 ish or slightly toward target

    He may come off that stick going forward which is ok if you subscribe to stack and tilt. However, top players measured by V1 and AMG with actually swings don’t do this. About 87% top 100 PGA players move “slightly back (yes sway) between 1-3 inches with average of 1.8. They start moving forward before the downswing returning to neutral and keep moving forward. But this is not indicative of what top players do. Thinks it’s important to understand advice that is evidence base. When the evidence doesn’t support the advice - it’s good to question it.
