  • In today's video, Mike Granato and Shaun Webb of Athletic Motion Golf show you EXACTLY how and WHY to SHIFT weight & pressure like the PROS.
    This video may shock you, to say the least, because Mike and Shaun's PROOF of what really happens in the swing is probably different from what you’ve heard from other sources who don’t measure the swing…in fact, it may even contradict them.
    We want you to have the most accurate information on the golf swing, that's why, here at AMG, we ALWAYS (and I mean ALWAYS) provide PROOF and DATA to back up our instruction. Theory is not a substitute for data when DATA isn't available.
    We have tens of millions of data points of what the best players in the world do and love sharing it all to help you play your best golf!

      @@AthleticMotionGolf Hey guys great job. But I have a good question. if the weight is on the front foot before the downswing starts, why not just stay on the front foot the whole time ? Like stack and tilt. Appreciate all the work you do.

    I never understood the weight shift concept properly but the taking weight off one foot to add weight to the other just made something click in my brain and I can’t wait to go to the range now.

    • @CoIoneIPanic
      @CoIoneIPanic Před rokem

      The weight shift is a dangerous shift because it can only be passive. You can't use weight shift to trigger your downswing etc unless everything else is aligned. Even pros struggle to get that in sync. Better off trying to feel the clubface in your hands through the swing.

    I have had hundreds of lessons w a variety of coaches, 2 of which were and are still world class, high profile coaches! I’ve watched your videos for at least 20 hours now and in my living room and then to the driving range changing my swing for the first time in 40 years. In your videos, a common theme that is the game changer, is the miss conception and preconceived conclusions that we then go and practice, that you are helping change those swing thoughts. I have spent thousands of hours rewinding the best golfers in the world swings frame by frame trying to emulate, finally learning how I have wasted an embarrassing amount of time! Thank you

    I've been looking for a channel JUST LIKE THIS! You guys give real reasons for why we do things and logical reasons and examples of what we need to do. Perfect. I've felt this athletic motion with my woods but just couldn't get it in my driver swing. Too slow, missing the athleticism. Yesterday for the first time I was finding it after watching your videos. Consistently hitting my driver 20 yards longer. And I didn't wear out like I used to wear out. Played 2.5 rounds in the sim and my last drive was still 250 as opposed to the 220 it used to be, on a good day. Now I want to find someone local who can wire me up and keep moving forward. Thank you!

    Your channel is by far head and shoulder above any other channel I've seen. For me the best way to describe it is that your use of the motion capture and 3D rendering allows me to see reals as apposed to feels. Hearing someone explain something is one thing but physically seeing the motions and movements allows me to visualise the instruction in a way I've never been able to previously. Your pro Vs am series is phenomenal and watching your channel combined with looking at my own swing, my old swing and a swing I'd like to imitate as well as your mocaps has got me striking the ball cleaner than I ever have. The problem when discussing shift or pressure, is that many people misunderstand the concept. The shift is a very small movement from the address position to the end of the shift to the trail foot. By the time the club is parallel to the ground & hands at hip height, the shift is finished. By then your weight should be to the inside of the trail foot or no farther than over the ankle when rotation should start to take over the backswing. The same is true of the downswing shift. It should go no farther than the inside or over the ankle of the front foot before the rotation starts & the arms come down thru impact which causes the body to turn with 90% of the weight on the outside of the front foot into the follow-thru. Anything other than those small shifts will result in a sway rather than a turn.

    Wow, guys, amazing video! I am an AMG+ member, and I've been working with you on iLessons and working my way through the Swing System. I've made great progress so far but still hadn't been able to figure out why my left knee "wheeled out" and my heel pivoted around my toes as Shaun demonstrates here, until you mentioned this on your podcast the other day. I wasn't intentionally trying to spread my knees, but this seems to be happening nonetheless, perhaps from just having too much pressure on my trail foot for too long. I have a Sheftic pressure board and have been working with that, and I think this video will really help my poor brain grasp these concepts. Thanks for continuing to share this great information!

    So I've been continuing to work on this and in my studies, ran across the George Knudson book. He was so all over this topic. The perspective I now have is this: the goal is to create a stable impact position. Can't do that if we're moving though that point, something you guys have said over and over. George said that we need to get 75% of our weight/pressure on the right side. If I'm starting at 50/50 before my initial left foot pressure to get the swing started then I'm only really moving 25% of my weight/pressure to my right foot before I head back to the left while still turning. That ain't a lot of pressure going back. It's like I feel a slight increase in pressure in my right foot then I'm headed back to the left for impact stability. It's very slight and subtle pressure increase. George also said the quicker he was able to transfer his pressure, the better he hit it. I have I very slight roll on my right foot due to the knee moving laterally too much and this thought has reduced it to being almost imperceptible at full speed. I can see it on slow motion though. Hitting it very consistently.

    Thank you so much for this. Question: Does the same principle apply to the driver swing? There’s more tilt at address and the feet are wider apart - so from takeaway to the top of my backswing, I feel that I’m staying “forever” on my trail leg simply because the arc of the swing going back is wider; plus I turn my shoulders like crazy at the top of my backswing that I feel so lost and stuck at initiating the downswing. I’m trying to apply the same principle of taking pressure off the trail leg (iron swing is not a problem), but it’s either I’m not putting a lot of pressure to the lead leg or it’s a timing issue. Or third, I’m lost with the hand path, too, in all the mix.

I was late to the party, but I am soaking everything up now. Your podcasts, instagrams, and you tube videos are must see viewing for me. I am a member of the AMG Academy now, and in the future I think AMG +.
    Two things that might be good future topics are an expanding of the correct delivery position and how to get there and maybe how to get the hands moving quicker in transition. As a fairly recent keep the hands and arms passive at the top golfer, I definitely need some work on the hands and arms. Anyways keep on carrying on.

    Great video, one of the most important moves in the golfswing very well explained.
    In teaching, such an analytical take is good for just a few, though. I guess. And to differentiate weight from pressure is pretty difficult for most, i assume. The task is to find a "feeling" or a picture for a student that leads to the desired positions first (before technical explanations). Ironically i had this move instinctively when i started with golf 3 decades ago - my pro told me too much shift. But we parted anyways because his explanation wasn't sufficient to me. I was always very analytical too, but tools to prove were poor back then. Glad to have found your channell where everything makes so much sense to me - very affirmative information and then also some new stuff for me.

    I was looking at the tilt and stack method swing when i came across this. The que at the beginning that was displayed help me with the weight shift immensely in practice swings. I was not getting very consistent "skim contact" with my mat but with this I am now. I will need to test this out at the range. My main issue right now is consistent contact, I typically thin or top the ball. I will sometimes get a solid hit and a small divot. But not often on the course, but i can get into a good Rythm at times on the range. Hopefully this will be the nail in the coffin for me! and get me golfing better!

    Fair play to the guys at AMG.
    Most advice from pros (tour pros or teaching pros) is based on their feels. And if I have learned one thing it’s that feel can be very misleading.
    That’s why these objective, evidence led tutorials are so valuable. The advice may or may not work for an individual, but you can’t argue with the accuracy of the information. Good work guys

    Super useful, very clear. This analysis also seems to me to be consistent with what Dr. Kwon, Director of the Biomechanics Laboratory at Texas Womans University in Denton, is teaching. He also uses the term moment arm in discussing torque forces with his stick figures. Pressure plates have become an important element in swing analysis. I particularly liked the way you show the pressure arrows usually shown only with stick figures outlined against a real body. Also really helpful was your explanation of how to shift pressure to the left leg, not by pushing with the right leg, which simply increases pressure force from that trail leg, but by unweighting the trail leg thereby loading the left leg, which also frees the hips to rotate and the trail knee to come up to the left leg at the finish. I often focus on keeping my trail leg firm to prevent it from bending or swaying to the right on the backswing, and pushing off that leg on the downswing as a pitcher would. But you make it clear that we have to avoid staying to late on that trail leg and need to get it unweighted early with weight, and thus pressure, shifted on to the left leg. Thank you. Will watch over and over.

    The video on “How to shift weight and pressure like a pro” is a game changer for me. In an attempt to “shift weight” to the back leg on the backswing and push off the back leg vigorously to get the weight on the front leg and post up, I actually set myself up for failure. The video shows how pushing off the back leg adds pressure to that leg. As a result I am late with the pressure shift, hang back on the back leg and hit high blocked shots.
    On the range I worked on this with the primary thought of lightening the weight on the back foot in transition and not pushing off that foot. In the downswing I was able to move my weight and pressure forward to the front leg and foot, resulting in NO blocked shots. My typical shot pattern was a nice, controlled fade. I can’t wait to take this to the course, as soon as the rain and flooding is over here in Texas.

    Terrific analyses!! I especially like the idea of having a trigger to initiate the backswing. The two players who immediately come to mind with respect to that move are Gary Player and Henrik Stenson. Simple athleticism is a big part of this. For those who are born athletic, they don’t even think twice about it, it just comes naturally. For most recreational golfers, on the other hand, it takes a lot of concentration and practice to be able to consistently incorporate this into their golf swing. That said, if they are able to do it, it’s a game changer.

  • @alnickerson2525

    Great video!! "Lightening one foot puts pressure into the opposite foot" is a gamechanger for my swing. My weight transfer and rotation were never quite right or coordinated. I'd end up with some weight on my trail foot, or would slide too far to the left to transfer weight. I tried Stack and Tilt, even swinging with my feet and knees together or just standing on my left foot. But I could never really coordinate the weight transfer with proper rotation and swing path. Your comment about lightening the left foot, which I would start doing as I reached the top of my backswing, worked! Everything fell into place. Thanks! (Loved the pressure plate arrows.)

    AMG dudes, this is 1 of 3 videos that really helped me improve my ball striking. It really made me think. You guys talked about making the trail foot lighter to increase the weight shift to the lead foot/leg. This was a light bulb 💡 moment for me. Now I am hitting the ball better with less scooping. Thank You.

    2:05 Resonates quite a bit for me just based off feeling. I also can feel that "hip launch" that Shaun mentions happen. I've been contemplating my swing lately as I also feel that I don't rotate on the downswing enough and feel like I'm stalling and letting the golf club momentum finish my turn if that makes sense.

    This is definitely one of the best AMG videos - physics and dynamic explanation and donuts too ! I sense an indirect critique of Gangas’ technique of pushing off the back foot😉near impact and wheeling the front knee around. To push off the front foot at impact and use the ground best with driver (biggest moment arm), at what position of the swing should max pressure be at the front foot?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  Před rokem

      Haha bad knee movements have been around long before Instagram. With irons it’s most often at impact. With driver it can be between lead arm parallel and impact.

  • @davedelacy

    I like the pre shift to the right to start the swing, so you won't to have much weight on your back foot and pressure shifts to the lead foot and leg and hip is turning to the left out of the way to let the arms come through naturally. Being 77 I tried this on the course this week and it worked, it's work in progress and when I when I start low, smooth and slow on the takeaway it works, will keep the practice drills as I am watching golf on tv. Great work as always

Originally signed up because I felt guilty consuming all their content that is free on CZcams and Instagram and not having to pay anything for it. Awesome video, as usual. I have two questions. 1. When the weight/pressure is initially moved to the left side, where on the left foot does it "land"? I've heard on the two outside left toes, on the front toe pads, and a few other things. 2. I noticed you didn't bring up the concept of "separation" (hips turning forward during initial movement to the left side, separating from the torso just prior to reaching the top of the backswing). Were you doing it innately, or is it not part of the modern golf swing (moving off the ball, re-centering) that the two of you demonstrate? I'm inclined to think it's the latter. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing your reply.
