Undertale OST - ASGORE - Original Trailer Speed Edit

- So hey, when I was playing UT earlier, I noticed something. The music for the Asgore fight was the same one they used in the old Kickstarter trailer - www.kickstarter.com/projects/... - ...But it had been sped up. I decided to try and slow it down again so it matched the original better. Liked the results, so figured I'd share.

When I see asgore in kickstarter:
O_O
When I see him in game:

Why did I read 'NO MY MERCY OPTION' in chuggaconroy's voice? 😆

as Toby has said asgore was going to be more of a silent intimidating character. Though I like his new goofy personality it would've been interesting to see how he would've developed during during the game.
BernardGamerX yeah
He is still a very intimidating character to fight in the game, but he just has a bit more personality put into him.
Like Nightmare Knight?
he still is pretty silent, all you hear is his tea party offer, then he says well, k, hold still.
@@timothyt.82 nice
I like to call him "beta Asgore"
Beta Asgore (BA) goats go BA
Some Dude heh, good one
Betasgore
No, its BAAAAAAAta asgore
Asgore seems like he was gonna be evil, but he changed that.
Won't lie, Asgore's silhouette is really intimidating. Once I remembered how kind he really is, that really took away that whole aspect.
Just wanted to put that out there.
I'd say that means Toby did it right.
He kinda looks like the devil in this picture ya know the trident and the horns
@@xxthexboxnoobxx4174
Him being a goat is, if I recall, a reference to Baphomet, with how he's supposed to be this big bad evil guy, on first impression, before it's revealed that he's actually a pretty nice guy.
I can't really feel intimidated by his silhouette because of those poorly drawn feet
ya he seems kinda intimidating but look at his feet
- You quietly say to Asgore that you don't wish to fight him. He pauses for a moment. But then, he strikes.
- You say to Asgore again - louder this time - that you don't want to fight him. His hands and lips begin to tremble, and his breathing stifles.
- You say to Asgore again - shouting this time - that you don't want to fight him. And for a brief moment, you can see the shame and sorrow behind his glassy eyes. But he shakes his head and strikes again.
- You shout to Asgore again that you don't wish to fight him. Asgore no longer responds.
- You shout to Asgore again that you don't wish to fight him, and that you know he does not want to hurt you either. Asgore no longer responds. You will have to fight him.
Asgore was not always a sad and broken old man you know, he was once the proud king of the monsters. But after being forced underground and losing his only children, he was overcome with wrath and hatred towards humanity. In a fit of rage and desperation he waged a war on humanity yet again from within the mountain prison. “Any human who falls down here will be killed” he said, but as time passed, children fell, and souls were collected. His rage faded into depression, but with the blood already on his hands, and the hope of his kingdom on the line, he had no other choice but to continue on.
And then you fell into the underground

His plan cannot be allowed to succeed.
Maaaan, I remember being so hype for this game. hard to believe the demo is 2 years old.
+The True Nehme 3*
+Ash I sorta wonder if Toby planned to have Asgore be a good guy from the start, or if he actually started out as a typical RPG Villain.
Cash64 I doubt it. I think Asgore was always intended to be a subversion of the Big Bad trope.
When this was made, there was still character development going on. See how he's not holding it like he does in-game. And see the tridents design is different
Fnafmaster_and The_Living_Yoshi It isn’t really *THAT* different, it just looks a bit more- polished? Well, I know the end of the trident and the middle part that you see is a bit different, what with that circle thing being there and all. The head of the trident is still the same, to say the least.
Reminds you of the Condesce, huh?
Can u replie my coment in 2022 Fnafmaster_and_ The_Living_Yoshi? Just for know if you still alive
Thats the same trident we see him use in the backstory behind humans and monsters
Just so you know, Toby didn't make that picture. (I'm 80% sure)
Wow. The feeling is really different. I do think the newer version fit the fight better but this one is still very good.
aaa bbb this one Imo feels more sad
You do realize this is the same song but he slowed it down for the trailer
@@Couldnt_Be_Bothered exactly
I'd say a genocide fight was planned but scrapped
Lucky Duck Cereal. Damn that flower
Asgore's silhouette is mankind's greatest fear of all time, evil beast with a trident and scary horns, the devil. Most misunderstood/underrated character ever
Asgore. He's seen all you've done, his kingdom in ruins, his people to dust.
Flowey warned him of you, after seeing what you did to Sans.
He now knows what must be done, for you are not only a danger to monsterkind, but to the entire world.
But somehow, you can sense he's still holding back.
Genocide if he actually absorbed the souls and was not messing around
didnt flowey dip out before sans
Small thing I noticed. In the sprite we have now in the real game, Asgore's head is downwards and his crown fades into his sprite. Even if he was charging his slashes (What with the glowing eyes) his Crown would be down. But here, his Crown can be seen in the Model, with his trident fully brandished. He is standing up, not slouching, in a battle ready position; looking at you, the player.
It's very possible, along with the more ominous version of the song, that Beta Asgore was to be a much more direct antithesis to Toriel, where hers would deal with the loss of her kids with Grief, he would deal with the loss with Wrath, and his war on humanity would be much more heartfelt, a Battle with Asgore who TRULY hates humans, and isn't afraid or hesitant to kill you. Toby, what have you done? What could have been?
Garr Ilan maybe in the beta asgore is evil
I'll try to make a mod or at least make a Unitale fight with that scenario.
@randommariobros Really? That would be fantastic.
Ehh if you want that play underfell!
Garr Ilan I saw one of toby foxes tweets stating that the original design for asgore was more... evil, but a friend of his had a different idea.
1:59 I think that's easily the best pacing for that part of the song.
Just feels so dramatic, like he's washed over by memories and tragedy of the past.
agreed
No, 1:42 is and you cant do anything about it
@@franilovic4139 epic gamer internet point moment 🔥🔥 (2020) (Gone Epixx) )😎😎(
tbh the 1:42 turning point where the piano is fighting to be heard (I interpret this as his real emotions) and the burden of duty (the other instruments pressing him) and 1:59 where his desire not to fight breaks through hits a little harder like this. he is the broken king.
I like it how the trailer portrayed Asgore as a bad guy, an enemy, when in reality he's a friendly dad, just wanting to see his son once again. Monsters aren't the enemies, humans are, Undertale is just a moral saying humanity isn't great. Well fuckin' done Toby.
AdamAllAround keep in mind this was made like later 2013. But yeah your right #asgoreisbestdad

This asgore isn't afraid to fight for his kingdom, he stares you dead in the eyes
Tbf he was never afraid to fight, he was afraid to kill any more than he already did, this one however would be quite determined to end it all and be done with everything
@@erwannthietart3602 The power of a monster depends on their intentions. If Asgore was already pretty strong even when he didn't want to kill anymore but needed to, imagine an Asgore that would not hesitate to end your life for the sake of their people and have revenge on humankind...
No wonder he managed to get the other 6 souls very easily

In every universe, a certain someone always leaves him alone.
also im late
When i listened to ASGORE, it always felt rushed, and the notes felt like they each died out too quickly...now i know why.
some people: "Do not let ASGORE take your soul"
me: *prepares to give Asgore my soul*
I'd give him mine monsters deserve to be free
I know somebody said that already, but... ASGORE (Genocide ver.). I would love to see serious side of Asgore. This guy fought in war, for Hypergod sake!
+TheNemesis432 not really. no monster fought back, and in result a whole bunch of monsters died.
Mute Noot What do you mean "not really"? Monsters did fought back, because...
1) In history it's showcased as a war, not simple slaughter (even if that war was a slaughter).
2) In intro we clearly see what monsters did rally they troops in fight against humans.
3) Also in intro there is said that there was a long battle, after which humans were victorious.
3) Gerson the Hammer of Justice was a veteran of war and he stated himself what he fought with humans.
4) There is a lot of cuddly and cute monsters, but mercenaries (knight knights, madjicks, final froggits, whimsalots and astigmatisms) look very tough and war-like.
5) They did fought back, but they were overwhelmed by humans and "many monsters were turn into dust". We don't know, did any human died in war, because it's vaguely says "no SOUL were taken", which can mean anything: either non of humans were killed, or some were killed but they SOUL could fled away.
***** thank you for explaining for me
***** I didn't say anything about monsters declaring war on humanity or attacking first. I said, that they fought in the war (by fighting back). War is about one country attacking over and attacked country tries to defend itself.
If humans feared about monsters stealing their SOUL (and we even have drawing of such monstrosity), what means it's happened. So... No matter how it happened that was indeed very terrifying. We humans always trying to destroy something that we are feared of (and we always fight for something, because we are a bunch of horrible people).
How can we know what monsters didn't provoked humans? We read ancient glyph which have been written by monsters. So this "history" was already biased, because sadly that's how history always written. Intro, by the way. was pretty unclear and neutral too. So we never know that truly happened between this two races.
BTW, as I said earlier monster isn't so cuddly and cute. Everyone knows what 6 human SOULs which Asgore has mean 6 humans died. We don't know if all of them were kids, but there was some. Don't forget also about Undyne... She wants to kill you. Not only what, she's the only monster whom you can't spare. She even has a lot of determination. And... Hmm... Maybe... Sans isn't a human, but... Maybe... There is particular one... Anyway...
Even if it was a massacre, it was a massacre on war (which always happen). It's called that way anyway, so what's how I call it.
***** Gerson wouldn't call it a war either. But intro says "after a long battle". I do think that monsters fought back and even could kill some humans.
*_My child... do not let ASGORE take your soul..._*
Toriel, 2015
"To my people, i am a hero. To you? I'm the bad guy."
Uhhhh his people is not people
You have no idea how disappointed I was when I found out that Asgore wasn't evil.
If you think about, there's pretty much no evil characters in UT. Even Flowey is just bored of everything since he has pretty much been through every scenario there could ever be, so he kills to entertain himself somehow. And Chara, well, just watch that "Who is the true villian of Undertale" video. If you want to see evil UT characters, then Underfell is for you.
That One Guy well depending on headcannons the underfell monsters aren't 100% 'evil' just turned insane by being trapped.
Horrortale though...that's a different story
UT Genocide or Neutral makes Asgore an antagonist/evil cause even though you're the one doing the killing, you still side with the humans, which technically means the monsters are the bad dudes.
@@placyd not how that works.
Same. I wanna fight all the final bosses so I have to do neutral and true pacifist yet, but after I finish with the things I'm interested in, I'll download Underfell to get the ass-kicking evil Asgore I was expecting.
I love this game so much!!! It left a Monster soul-shaped hole in my human soul-shaped heart.
but... they're shaped the same....

It's easier to spot the melody of Heartache beginning at 0:38 since the key is closer to the original. Didn't even notice it before listening to this version lol
+CobaltBW I beat the game months ago and I only just realized the beginning of Death by Glamour is the intro to CORE, lol
+GrandMasterCRT and the "music" that plays at the barrier is a slower version of the "music" that plays in the True Lab. I found that out recently.

Cant handle seeing “5 years ago” on undertale content to be honest
This asgore should be in the genocide route. As he knew how you killed everyone in the underground, how you killed his wife and how you're making the monster a way to hide from humans like you. He, as the king, he would fight you as the angrier king it shows in this kickstarter trailer, as the scary he looks like in the kickstarter trailer.
He would absorb all the human souls he killed but for a reason, to kill you for once and end with this suffer.
I think that's how Asgore should act with you in the genocide, not by just saying you want a tea (even if it have sense because he sees you as a DEMON, not a human).
_My child..._
_Don't let ASGORE take your soul..._
-nope- > *k*
Cool! Now I just wish we could get a full version of Papyrus' cool song...
If Asgore had a genocide fight, this is what I would imagine playing at the start of the fight.
Better, a serius fight
I just have one problem with this recreation: The actual kickstarter version has added reverb. This recreation has the same amount of reverb as the original. Other than that, nice work.
I wonder if that version of asgore had a beard, on the beta sprite sheets, the very first asgore was beardless
perhaps that dude on the screen had that same detail, I think it would fit very well since this sprite is thinner than the one in game
The fact that Asgore doesn't want to fight the human in the pacifist route but he has to, to break the barrier is actually kinda sad.
people here are discussing how and why toby changed asgore's character to be a surprisingly soft and nice guy, but i dont think he changed him THAT much. maybe while in development, asgore's fury against humans from having his children killed would have stayed, but toby ended up changing it so that his anger had pretty much totally faded, now cloaked in cold shame and regret. one thing's for sure though, asgore is not using his full strength in the final game. he must be holding back so that you have a better chance of ending this conflict for good.
i feel like toby had the ASGORE song we know already planned to be the way it is from before this point. i wouldn't really expect him so early in development to leak a MAJOR boss theme with intense emotional impact, accompanied with the fact that when slowed down this theme can sound a lot more grim compared to the fast-paced fight that doesn't give you any time to rest. but maybe just because it's an edit, it sounds a bit off. Either way, both sound great, and thank you for this!
don't be sad goat dad 0w,0
I LOVE THE TRAILER EDIT SO MUCH DX
"The surface doesn't matter anymore to asgore. But asgore now only has one goal: to end the madness, now with the power of 6 human souls he will do just that, seems like you've finally met your match. Your filled with DETERMINATION."
At the part at 2:01 i recognised the game over theme.
Idk why i never noticed it until i listened to that version.
I like that toby let the blink and trident attack as a reference to this "beta" silhouette.
Edit: This is so damn epic.
bro, asgore's theme already makes me sad, and this edit just amped up the sadness
Big props to Toby for making such a great soundtrack using only simple 8-bit audio.
imagine a genocide asgore where he breaks your fight button instead
When I was passing Asgora, I was completely relaxed listening to this song and filled with determination!
I kinda wish that was Asgore's actual theme, Because that kickstarter theme is epic for a boss
this one feels like he's like almost physically dragging himself along the fight.
Asgore isn’t a bad person. He’s just forcing himself to do what’s best for his people. He destroys the MERCY button because he believes he doesn’t deserve mercy after what he’s done. He’s just a sad old man.
Anyways, what specific percentage did you slow this down by? I'd like to know so i can listen to remixes of the song at this speed.
+Hirotrum -10%.
I would also personally recommend 15% as well, which I actually find even better.
***** Thank you ill try both
+rossmallo I sped it up at CZcams's possibilities. 1.25 Was fitting on the original. But a little slower would be better.
I dunno, 1.25 was a bit faster but holy shit it is awesome.
-11% if you're in Audacity
it just needed an echo, then it would've matched perfectly
Always so much thrills
I love the Asgore we have now, but man, this really does make him seem so intimidating and mysterious
i dont know why but the song sounds good like this.
Imagine Asgore as the final genocide boss, but this time Asgore isn't holding back. He's heard you've been killing everyone, including his wife. You can't just one shot him, he's ready to fight for his kingdom. Prepare for a boss battle even harder than Sans.
That would be awesome I think. Since I kinda don't find sense that a lazy skeleton is the final boss of a route when you kill almost everyone. Asgore's fight should be like hes a real evil character, like the way he was in the Kickstarter trailer.
*Asgore's not playing around.
@@GambitGaming08 he ain't fuckin around, he means business
Asgore should’ve broken your fight button tbh and you had to survive until he gave up and just straight up wanted to die, and If you gave him mercy, he’d either kill himself or flowey would kill him. That’s what I imagine
@@Abu_v-x3s but putting in an epic final boss for genocide would contradict the very structure and intent of Undertale's genocidal """route""". a boss like you describe would be rewarding the player for committing terrible sins by murdering innocent person after innocent person in cold blood.
The original theme of asgore look more sad than the final one

the beat is about right... it's just i think the pitch is lower than the one in the trailer
I miss 2015....
You need to lower the pitch by just a tiny bit and add in the Fade In effect like from the trailer, plus the bit of an echo, which makes it sound very King-like.
-2 tones
Sounds more epic
Now this is the mountain king we need! xD
Feet give away the look. I see why they made his cloak longer
Asgore looks a lot like Ganon in this early art.
ASGANONDORF.
“Link, I’m sorry… goodbye.”
I honestly prefer this to the normal speed version. Idunno why... it just sounds much more dramatic and more "final boss-y" sounding.
Asgore, Heir of the Hope of the Underground, he inherited the hope of his people, he was the one who gave it such magnitude, although blood had to be shed, no one ever lost faith in a better future, in the faith of believing that they would finally get out of that hole In which they were trapped, Undertale was a story of Hopes and Dreams.
I am surprised by all this meta context, since Toby worked in Homestuck, and although it had a lot to do with the fact that he was created his characters so well, but honestly, it's just a thought, but I love to think that knowing Homestuck classes was a great support for Toby.
Tbh this sounded better.
It could've been in the actual game and i wouldn't have said a thing.

The feeling is different...is like Agore here is a bad guy...but in the reality He don't want to Fight Frisk...He Only want peace in the world...in the reality the Humans are the Real bad guys...the monsters aren't mean
This is much more complicated than "humans bad, monsters good". We don't know, why war started at all. Also, Asriel died from obvious reason - one of forgotten monsterkind just appear in the village with dead human body, what do you gonna do? There was no reason to reach any diplomatic relation with some monster, who probably killed one of them. And daily reminder - Chara was too not into diplomatic stuff.
Asgore is not the best example of someone seeking peace too. I mean, killing six kids and approaching to kill seventh is fine? No. He has "sins crawling on his back", that's why he is not fine with it. He knows it perfectly, that's why he broke Mercy button at sight. He doesn't deserve mercy in his own eyes. He is trying to do something good to monsters, but by doing bad stuff.
