    As a guy who’s been modding since the early 80’s, and building for about the last 10 years, I fully agree with the modding of these things. As long as you have a good foundation (neck & body)
    The rest is all subject to change,
    The only thing different than what you’re doing IMO, is when you change out the pots, change the wiring with some good cloth covered wiring. 👍🏻
    Love modding!!!

      Good neck and body, totally agree. I learned that the wood is the most important thing. This bass doesn’t have much resonance due to the wood (not good), therefore, the sound and feeling are not there. I mean, the sound improved drastically, but is not like a high range active Jazz Bass. Cheers!

      @preciseaudioblog my suggestion before you look into another body, which isn't a huge deal, is try a stainless steel nut. I know you're thinking brass more than probably, but that will warm the tone up. SS nut should increase the natural sustain without the warmth.

      @@Daddy53751 Nice advice, thank you. I’ve seen Warwicks have brass nuts. My last upgrade was turning the into an active one. I’ve discovered that Squiers (basses and guitars) as well as Sterling instruments have thinner necks that their expensive models (Fender, Music Mac, etc...). My bass definitely became better in sound, but the playing sensation haven’t improved (is not bad though). Now that I feel I need the 5th string for my music, I think I might sell this bass and get Music Man Sting Ray 5 strings on Reverb. I tried a Sterling Sting Ray a month ago (not even the top class pf the models) and it felt fantastic. Cheers!

      @@preciseaudioblogmy brother got me one of these and it arrived today.
      Very neat bass. Of course it needs setup and some sharp fret ends dealt with.
      The cruddy stock bridge came new with some stripped out saddle screws, so I ordered a Kickass.😊

    I went out looking at buying another Fender. I played every thing they had in the shop. This model Squier felt and played better than anything else in there. I added this same bridge, a set of Lindy Fralin pickups, and CTS pots. for a grand total of $600 I had a bass that sounded better than, and played just as good as my American standard or Spector Euro. Biggest difference is I prefer the thin frets on this more and it gets the most play time out of my collection of 25+ years playing.

    • @preciseaudioblog
      @preciseaudioblog  Před 4 lety

      Yes, and you also transform this bass into active mode. I found that a difference apart from pups, tuners and bridge is that the Fernders have a thicker neck. That applies to guitars as well. Cheers!

    @shaolinzendragon4737 Před 4 lety +7

    I agree, Brother. With a $600 Bass you'll still make some modifications...
    Squire's Classic Vibe Series Basses are built very well and making a few changes to get it just right for you.... . Well, Why Not. You're gonna save money in the long run and have a kickass Bass.
    A $1,200 - $2,500 Bass, ... Ain't gonna make you a better player.

    I got a Squier CV 60's P-Bass, first gen 2010, and also put Seymour Duncan's: sounds great! It already has brass sadles, on a stock hi-mass bridge. I guess they've changed it on latter models. And yes: the neck is awesome! I use LaBella's 45-105 flats and it's playing beautifully! I'm looking for a change on the tunning pegs as well in a near future... the stock ones are "a little" stiff, to say the least... Thanks for sharing!

    KickAss!
    Ha! Sorry:P
    Good video, man! I bought the KickAss bridge last night, and am excited for it.
    CTS pots are high quality, and what was in vintage Fenders. I put them in all my guitars, and have no problems. I also put Switchcraft input jacks, which also gives zero problems.
    I also use the TUSQ XL nuts, and they make the guitars sing! There is a HUGE difference in tone and tuning stability.

    Hi! Do you have a neck dive on this bass? Because, I do have, and I wonder if lighter tuners and heavier bridge could solve that

      Hi there, sorry the late response. I haven’t noticed that. But the bass is really heavy. For me better tuners are for more stable and accurate tuning. Cheers!

    • @SNTOSN
      @SNTOSN Před rokem

      The best solution for neck dive is to change the points were the strap butttons are. The one by the bridge put it higher and the one on the neck side inwards towarda the neck.
      High mass bridges and ligjter tuners do help, but are not as effective if the body is too light or the design has inherent neck dive.

    I found my G and D intonation screws slightly long (prob 2.5mm too long for perfect intonation) and already used the short screws for the A and E string. Gonna cut my long screws and then should be ok. Other than that, it helped balance my bass a little.

    Why would you pay a grand on a guitar to upgrade it??! At that price you shouldn't have to change anything so it's proof you made a bad choice... By the way buy a 300$us guitar and upgrade it to end with an instrument which can compete with guitars at 800/1000$us!!! If you don't put 600$us on it, the guitar become a real bargain and more important, a real keeper...!!
    Why all people want to upgrade mid to high mid price range level of guitars (I mean 800 to 1200$us), if you do some maths you will easily find you create more value by upgrading good old cheap flag models from renowned builders (Fender, Epi/Gibson, PRS...ect) and with which you are granted by good lutheries most of the time, and that show one more time you definitely have to choose this kind of model to make the best "guitar for your money" you can!! ☺️

    • @preciseaudioblog
      @preciseaudioblog  Před 4 lety

      I've thought about that... Fender basses have a thicker neck, maybe a better cut of wood. But in the end it's just personal taste. Cheers!
