Hey everyone! I am a first-year medical student at THE Ohio State University College of Medicine. I just completed my first semester of medical school. In this video, I will discuss some issues I faced during this time. I failed aspects of medical school which I will discuss in this video. I am first gen and ended up taking four gap years before medical school, took the MCAT three times, and applied to medical school through AMCAS three times before starting here at OSUCOM. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me directly on Instagram as I check that most frequently.

The rent part and eating cereal almost made me tear up because no one talks about how hard it is to survive on the minimal money we get in todays growing inflation. Props to you. We’re going to be fine.

I love this so much. We don’t talk about failure and how hard this journey is enough. I have failed so many exams on my journey to becoming a pediatrician and it is rough. I always feel so defeated after medical exams. Thanks for being you man!

This is so enlightening to watch. I'm a PA student so I can understand a lot of what you're going through. No one talks about the financial aspect of medical programs and having to live off of barely any money from loans. Congrats on making it through your first semester, and go bucks! (Coming from an OSU alum)

Failure is part of the process. Remember that God leads us in the areas that challenge us at every level, the first one being finances. I had my car repossessed and went thru bankruptcy my first year at Dartmouth (!!). I was humiliated but I was Blessed to be recruited into a well paying job my senior year and have worked as a consultant since, bought my parents a house and plan to retire early. God provides 🙏 I just finished Mba graduate school last week, ironically in Business and finance. There's a purpose so keep on keeping on

Our stories are so similar - 5 gap years, 4 MCAT attempts and 3 cycles for me. I also just finished my first term and had so many failures but feeling so much better now. Thanks for your vulnerability and humility - we got this!! 💪

Nice man you got a new sub! I'm in my second year of community college. I ended high school with a 1.9 gpa. After 8 years of maturing and getting life experience I went back to school and I am so far a 4.0 student. Hoping to start applying to med schools next year. When you trust in God you can't go wrong. Excited to watch your journey!

Hi! You probably qualify for food stamps; if you haven't talked to your financial office about how to apply, I would highly recommend doing that! No one should be hungry in that way. Best of luck with the next block, you've got this!
Hey thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately in Ohio, we need to be working 20 hours a week to qualify for them. That just wouldn't be possible with my already busy schedule.

I’m also a first year medical student in Ohio and it’s so much more difficult than I could have ever prepared for. When I first began, the novelty of being a new medical student kept me from a bad mood but now that we are halfway through it’s a lot of being miserable with the little moment of happiness that get you through it. And while it sucks, those small good moments are when I shadow my future speciality and that’s how I know this path is for me.
You can do it! I believe in you, and I am rooting for you!

I wish to try medical school but i don't do it because i am fearful to fail and have to pay tons of money and don't get the degree.

I am an IMG...so in tge US you guys do 4 years of undergrad then 4 years of med school then residency?

Thanks for reaching out! We do 4 years of undergrad then 4 of medical school and upwards of 7 years of residency. The length of residency varies between each specialty. I hope this helps!
