heres how i interpret it: everyone is like drunk and shit or whatever, and Dirk is the only one who isnt like drunk or anything but in his part he says "But truth be told i wish that i could cave" he feels kind of left out, like hes the only one still sane. and at the end when he starts singing its because it finally got to him and he feels more included... thats just my interpretation tho
