Great point about practicing the code. Your tutorials are superb, there is such an abundance of learning material out there, so just working on more basic stuff in smaller chunks and hope to feel more comfortable with it soon so I can practice along.
Thx for DE topic. Extremely useful ;)
Thank you for the information about Coursera Plus promotion.
I completed week three of the Meta cert tonight. My feedback so far is that it's littered with mistakes, typos, inconsistencies and quizzes with wrong or misleading answers. We're presently covering SQL and I have some experience in it from a previous course. If I didn't already have a firm grasp I would struggle to learn in the way that this course introduces it. In my experience the Google Data Analyst cert was a significantly better product. My experience with the SQL portion of the course does not inspire confidence in the new-to-me subjects that this course will teach. Right now I'm not even certain that I intend to continue. I'm extremely disappointed in what I thought would be a quality education from a quality company.
I am going through Meta Front-End Developer and it has the same mistakes you just named. It is quite surprising given the facts that A) this is by Meta, and b) It has a high rating of 4.8.
Subtitles not working properly, course lessons are not in a good order, there is a lot of new lines of code that appear out of nowhere and instructors do not explain it, etc.. etc...
Same things from the frontend certificate stop using it. I mean at this point they don't deserve my money
I am trying to get through Module 2 Version control and I am just confused, not on what it is teaching but the directions on the setup and where to go to create the needed setups (ssh key). One of the labs didn't even properly work for me. a
Darn! I was looking into doing this course for the exact same reason META what other company could do it better… but I guess I’ll see what DataCamp and Udemy have 🤷♀️
@@cathleenurena6178 yes try a different program. It was such a waste of time. I am glad i had a free program from my local library. But i dropped it.
I feel that the benefit of completing the Meta Certs is the access to the companies that will source from those that completed the cert
Programming Language
SQL
Bash/Unix
Cloud provider
ETL tools
Spark
Data Engineering specific tools
These are the must haves for data engineering.
Python and SQL are the base, it isn't enough to distinguish you from the 1000s of other data engineers.
I love your ML videos. A great resource along side the reading. The math is insane but slowly making sense. I know you’re busy with work now and haven’t uploaded in a while but you make great content.
Thanks for the video. Nice to hear about this. Might look into this as I am going thru the IBM DS cert atm. But annoyed by the amount of IBM Watson and cloud push into the course. Seems like this doesn't push on some stuff not widely used in industry.
Also +1 sub
Same here, i hated the way they pushed their IBM cloud products into the course
I loved your python tutorials - can you please do a beginner step by step data engineering project? There aren't too many beginner projects available.
Yes! Someone was suggesting creating a pipeline. I'm thinking maybe a pipeline using sports data.
Agree, that be a great video
its weird because everyone hates cleaning, its my absolute favourite thing. love watching it all fall into place.
The course looks interesting but I kind of wish they had gone with Postgres instead of MySQL. I get their stack is built on MySQL but I feel Postgres is more widely used in the industry. My experience has mainly been with SQL Server in my role as a BI Developer but I would welcome exposure to other RDBMS.
Think they do both
Legend
Shashank, great video.
P.S. +1 on your fit today
Thank you 🙌
I completed the Google data analyst course and started the engineering one last week. No traction on jobs yet but I really need to put in some work on portfolio projects. Would you please create a video of building a complete data pipeline? I’m having trouble thinking of any free sources of continuous data other than financial markets.
That's a great idea, sports would be the next obvious pick imo. I would suggest pulling sports data from an API like the NBA API
@@ShashankData excellent suggestion. Thank you!
I will advice you perfect the data analytics first, so whenever the job come you will be very qualify and learn the data Engineering later.
But if there is no urgency in getting job data engineer is dope.
I've noticed a lot more ads for data science bootcamps. I think those are much better for learning because the in person/online course design. Also the higher cost would filter out only the more motivated students. But online courses/certificate are a great way to see if it is an area of interest. Love your videos
This sounds like a good way to think about it!

Is Massachusetts program of data engineering worth it?
Aye! Crazy to think that I’m part of the 1 PERCENT THAT ACTUALLY DOWNLOADS THE CODE? Not sure how people learn code without being hands-on
Hahaha yeah it's pretty crazy. I think CZcams as a platform encourages passive consumption but hey if I can even get a couple of people like you to practice coding, my job is done :)
Hello, I have a question, I took a screenshot with my phone, but the date of the screenshot and metadata were incorrect. I had a vpn on my phone, and was unable to install updates due to wi fi, would either of these issues possible explain what happened?
Nice informative video
But I guess that there is huge difference between data engineering and database engineering. We can't consider them to be same at any cost. Database engineer usually focuses on rdbm tools like sql, etl, data warehousing whereas data engineer has variety of things to focus like sql, nosql, big data tools such as hadoop, spark, hive, etc, cloud computing, data pipelines and many more.
In simple we can conclude that database engineering is subset of data engineering. And people shouldn't get excited that they ll get data engineering job purely based on database engineering certificate.
correct, i have limited knowledge on programming hell i do not like programming that much hence i have decided to go for database engineering previously i did work as DBA for 2 years but that was 5 years ago so huge gap in my resume and hence i thought perhaps i will do a certification, what do you think is the best one AWS database speciality, Azure dp300 or this meta database eng certificate
Yeah same here. I got into it from Data Analyst background. First business analyst , then data analyst and then data engineer.
I was going to consider business intelligence engineer role as a bridge to get into data engineering, but it would've been a waste of time and a little too related to data analyst role I had.
Hi Alex. I'm staring a business analyst position at Amazon next week and I would like to follow your same path. May we have a little talk? Thanks and good luck!
It seems like it's more of an advertisement than it is an actual video going over how it compares the other data science certificates that are out right now
Thanks for the vid. I'm database admin of 15+ years, but looking for a change/pivot. Thoughts on best approach to this? Obviously sql basics are good for me, and starting to work on Python. Would a job pivot involve a big drop in salary, or possible to do that pivot to intermediary position and go from there?
I would make sure you have a strong understanding of data modeling practices (3nf, Kimball, and Data Vault) and then consider learning DBT or another SQL-like python package (to leverage your existing experience and extend it)
What about the Databricks and Snowflake certificates? Data engineer or ML engineer.
Thankyou! can you tell me which is better the meta data engineering or the IBM data engineering course?
Hey man, I got my bachelors IT degree from UCF. Do you think I could polish my skills and get a entry level Database engineer job with this course? I think so. What is your opinion? Thank you man.
Have you tried the google data engineering cert? How would that compare to this?
Hi Shashank, I was thinking of becoming your Patreon member. Is it still active?
Yes! I'm in the Discords answering questions and everything. We have a nice small community
Oh, just missed the offer, do you have a new one soon?
This certificate is no longer available , some know if it's gonna be available in the near future?
Bro u are a fullstack Data Scientist now
Google Data Analytics vs Meta Data Engineering cert?
Most of the courses have not been released yet.
Who specifically is this certification for with context then? The main reason why companies like Meta or Google or even IBM provided this content is to move people internally up in their skill levels from where they are currently. That and when I've asked recruiters from Amazon it's also because the US Congress hasn't done a immigration bill in about 40 years now and so I understand the fact that they had to go out and do the work themselves instead of waiting 4 years for a potential candidate. I might be wrong here but I enjoy being wrong so I can learn why.
Can you do a video about your opinion on CompTIA Data+ Certification Course?
Righttt literally no videos or info on this certification
Thank you for the video.
Just a feedback, you are speaking too fast i had to rewatch some parts😁
hi bro i hope you are fine, are the data analyst skills importent for an internal auditor career or no.
Hi. Yes, it's absolutely necessary. This'll set you apart from the rest.
Certifications are for technicians and not for engineers ! This is what I have learnt in my decade long experience in the tech industry.
Can you expand on that?
So there's no other way of becoming a Data Engineer except to go to college and learn it there?
Personally I have a degree in chemistry (not useful in this industry). I started off as an analyst then picked up enough coding and systems design skills to be a competitive engineering applicant.
I like this distinction! I agree that certifications (outside of the cloud certs) don't make an engineer (see 08:53), I see them as a great way to provide an end goal to learning a set of skills outside of the structured environment of school.
If you deliver WHAT you promised to, WHEN you promised to, any certification won't matter. From any certificate to the engineering or technician itself.
Hi Shashank, I am currently working as an analyst mostly excel based and a bit of SQL. Could you please tell me how I could convert to data engineer career? I have Python knowledge as I did some machine learning projects. I would like to know how you were able to become a data engineer from a data analyst (ex. certifications, projects, etc..) . Loved this video as always btw :) I am taking this course as I pre enrolled.
Sweet! Yes so this course goes over a lot of the skills that Data Engineers need. I'd really focus on coding and systems design. Try doing an internal transfer in your company, they're way easier and not uncommon. Start practicing LeetCode as well as Data Engineers are a flavor of software engineer.
@@ShashankData Thanks for your reply!! For clarification, when you say Leetcode, should I focus on SQL and Python? and I didn’t think of internal transfer before, thank you for your advice!
@@muni7561 python :)
@@ShashankData Thanks :)
Please do Dataquest
Orielly machine learning edition 3 make videos please ❤🙏🙏🙏
Is the third edition that different from the videos I made for the first edition?
Is it good for Indian origin people who are living in India and can they apply on Meta Job Portal will they get hired or its only for USA peeps . Please Reply
My opinion is... IBM certs are thousands times better!
we want data engineering not database
joke in my opinion.
Shame on you, first come and work in india and then give any these kind of lectures, shame on your selfish life
