How To Build a Homemade Adjustable Router Sled - DIY

- A router sled is one of the essential tools for perfecting the surfaces of materials. It is commonly used in leveling wood surfaces and over live edges. Instead of going for a ready-made router sled, you can create one using readily available materials.
For the last few months I’ve been dabbling into the world of live edge lumber. You know, those slabs of wood that make beautiful benches, table tops or even anniversary laptop trays for your wife… I’ve lucked out and have an awesome source for local live edge pieces. Up until this point I’ve been using manageable piece of lumber that I’ve been able to either sand smooth or run through my 13” thickness planer to level out… not anymore. I had a big project and it was time to build a Router Sled.
Yes, you are still going to have to sand the material after you finish using the router sled. The point is to take off material in bulk but in controlled depths, not give you a smooth to the touch finish. You will have tiny visible lines from each pass you made. Those can easily be cleaned up with a belt sander or palm sander. That’s it!

Does the two rods that the router slide on, bow down from the weight of the router and you keep enough downward pressure to guide the router?

NICE; Did you weld both ends of each rod where it goes through the square tubing? If not how do you keep it from twisting on the non welded end?

I was trying to think how to build a sled out of angle iron and bearings and then pow...I saw this video. Thank you! My only suggestions add your voice so you can explain step by step the process and tells us what size bearings, rods etc to use.
My dream is to know how to speak English fluently, so that I can incorporate my voice in the video and explain about each and every step I do. Unfortunately English is not a name I speak. If you have any questions please ask me here and I will answer them all.

It's a pity that you didn't make this for a router because the thing you are using is actually a Edge Trimmer, I do wish people like you would learn the difference between a router and a Edge Trimmer.
I was just thinking about how I can make something like this so I could keep painting and drawing. I have a muscle disease and it’s hard for me to hold my hand up or steady anymore. I was looking at a cnc plasma table and trying to come up with something that would move easily that I could rest my wrist or lower arm on. I think this could work. Basically an etch-a-sketch. Might have just saved me some time. Now if this virus will just run it’s course already so I can leave my house to get materials. It’s not a great time to be hitting home despot when your immune system is shot😳. Thanks

As always your great ideas are indelibly simple and totally effective!
Nevertheless, I will again ask you what I already wrote once under another video: could you take 10min to put down in your video description the list of the spare parts you are using. For example, size of the structural steel bar, what are the cylinders you glue in the square bars, where does those pieces come from (dump machine?), what it's the reference of your router?
Things like that.
Typically, this router slider is something I'd like to copy. Having reference of the parts would help a lot.
