We all tell our self that then all of a sudden a couple of years down the line is "WTF dude you promised no more collecting", after 5 variations of the same character you'd think you'd learn your lesson.

  • @behindthescenesphotos5133

If they recast the Tonnika sisters for a background cameo on Andor and got the new actresses' likeness rights, we'd have a workaround.

I've heard that floated before but its been shot down as being enough of a door crack that for legal reasons they dont want to do it. Same as why their animated cameo led nowhere.

No such thing as "likeness rights!" Disney owns the rights to any character likenesses. If we had to wait for a bunch of narcissist actors and actresses to give their OK, figures would never be made. Only the really huge stars like Charleton Heston and Roy Scheider inked deals for merchandise, which is why their figures were made later or not made at all. Carrie Fisher has joked that every time she looks in the mirror, she has to pay George Lucas five bucks - that's how that works.

I want to thank you again for your original video this is in relation to being the inspiration for one of my blog entries, several months ago. You were literally the *first* person ever to give a good articulation of what made Star Wars so appealing to the masses. I find it depressing I had to wait 45 years for it (even though I only turned 40 last year), no less from a gent who himself was only a baby when it came out, but hey...take em how you can get em.

So much of my Star Wars collection that I bought as a child were the aliens. I had a bunch of the aliens without even having Han, Leia, Lando, or Darth Vader, not that I didn't want them. I have an original Luke and Landspeeder that my grandmother bought for my brother when they were new, but so much of my collection are aliens--Chewbacca, Bossk, Ugnaught, Jawa, and Squid Head, among others, and droids--C-3PO (I never did get R2-D2, oddly enough--always seemed to be out of stock, but it might have been that I thought the sensorscope was cooler than the light saber version, and I was young enough to have come in near the tail end), Power Droid, FX-7 (which I thought was cool even though people now tend not to). I'm not sure I had any from the cantina. I'm weird like that. I also have Lobot and the Black Bespin security guard. These are all in storage in Indianapolis or else I'd be able to say even more easily what I have.

I hate how Hasbro has completely abandoned making new Cantina figures. I know we finally got an updated band member and we're getting a multipack with 7 of them soon, but they're still basically the same figures we've had released like 3 times already, just now with super articulation and the ability to actually hold their instruments. Good, but not exciting. Scruffy humans aside, there's still some cool background aliens we don't have yet. The fly guy, Arleil Schous (aka the second "werewolf" with the cool glowing red eyes), the rat guy, just to name a few of the ones I want most. Some of the old PoTF ones like the Duras, the devil and Lak Sivrak could desperately use an update (and they already have a fantastic body/head sculpt for Lak in the form of the Clone Wars Voolvif Monn figure, they just need to tool the body to have different clothing, really). There were a lot of alien species who came in pairs but we only got one of them as a figure (the two Duras, the two crocodile aliens, the various Rodians, the "off duty" Cantina band member) so they would make easy repaints/retools. I really hope Hasbro will return to filling out the cantina members some day.

I think it important to be noted that when you consider how well all that different cantina footage was edited so seamlessly together as to represent all that space with all the characters, it’s a testament to Marsha Lucas. Who was, for my money, one of the greatest unsung heroes to the success of the original trilogy. I mean she her editing skills basically in the end is what helped make that movie. So much she won an Oscar for it.

just waiting for the black series hammerhead. there aren't many really desirable OT characters left that people want as much, imo. death star droid, lobot, maybe some stupid ewoks which suck, gonk droid, maybe a very few others i can't think of. they're dragging it out to keep people interested, the OT is the lynchpin holding this whole thing together. i think a typical collector's willingness to get more obscure than that is nixed by the price point.
after the OT figs have basically run its course, what's mostly left are the PT figs we haven't gotten, but the interest level in those drops precipitately. with the current content, there really isn't a line left to drag out to speak of.

I wish Hasbro would start updating cantina aliens for the 3.75'' line. Most of them are under-articulated with lame swivel elbows or even 5POA, without any knee articulation. Meanwhile the few good ones from the Legacy Collection are pretty hard to get.
Well, at least we now have a proper cantina band. I guess in order to produce more cantina patrons that are up to modern standards, Hasbro would need to create a large cantina playset first.

Inaccurate is the best kind of wrong.
The design of these first 5 cantina aliens-including the Blue Snaggletooth-is more iconic then everything George Lucas came up with.
And I don't mean to minimalize all his realizations-because Lucas most def came up with a whole lot of brilliant ideas.

No such thing as "likenesses rights." Whomever owns the property of Star Wars owns those rights as it's a character the actor is playing. Unless an actor has a special deal in their contract that says they get merchandising from use of their likeness, they don't, and I'm sure most of the extras in Star Wars didn't have a "contract", per se. If this really was a thing, none of these figures would ever get made - it would all be tied up in Court.

Funny how Spector is complaining about the fake forced Alien Droid Diversity into the Cantina hehe. They can do that for all the movies adding in insert shots to put in who or what they want. Save them a lot of time along with money. Bo Schek the only Human to get a real figure should be celebrated heh. I used to hang around Cantina in BAttlefront even had a forums related to that so hah. He made right choice with Greedo as that original Martian design would not have worked. He was always a bit iffy but that scene with Han Solo along with Obi is what makes it memorable. Cool looking but guy like chops off his arm with the Light Saber if I recall. Thats how movies work adding in people or scenes post production or editing :).

You don't need any release rights for actors like the Tonnika Sisters who had no lines, are onscreen for 2 seconds, and they were not even huge stars. Any contract they signed is not lasting in perpetuity, anyway. Also, Carrie, Mark, and Harrison did not give any OK for their figures. It's whomever owns the franchise license gets to do with the likenesses whatever they want. Remember, it's not a Harrison Ford figure you are buying - it's Han Solo. Big difference!
