    You are not only a great signer, but, you are the best signing teacher. Here's why:
    -You repeat signs slowly
    -You show the signs from different positions;.
    -You pause/slowly show, describe the initial sign position.
    -You show how NOT to do the sign. (I now know to do mother & father from a more sideways starting point.
    I loved you video. I just subascribed. Please post more.
    BTW, I'm hearing, Iget my hearing aids next week, the students I teach love to learn sign, and signing is FUN.

From what I understand few parents take them up on it, mainly the mothers. I was fortunate a church an hour away offered free sign classes and I took them up for about a year-and-a-half. Family issues came up and I needed to attend to those. Now my niece has an aunt and uncle in laws who are deaf and I'm trying to brush up on my sign language to encourage their family to improve their sign skills. I miss my friends who are deaf but I cannot easily travel to visit with them.

    I've been learning sign language for a while now and recently i went to a track meet / field day where there was other schools involved. I saw some other kids from another school signing and they each had hearing aids on so I assumed they were deaf. At the end of the meet I went over to there interpreter and/or teacher and signed a few words. The kids looked so surprised and happy. They even waved at me! It was really nice and I can't wait to meet them again next year (I'm going to a different middle school so hopefully they will be there! ) Anyway this video really helped when I first started out! I know very basic signs, and it makes me so happy when I see kids sitting in the front rows clapping in sign language. Maybe I'm a person of simple pleasures, but it makes me happy when I can sign hello to them and they sign back.

    I'm learning sign language because I think that it should just be something that everyone knows. A deaf person came to me to order about 6 years ago and I felt awful that I couldn't communicate with them. Its a beautiful language and a great culture. I've studied bits and pieces, I've gotten books over the years and I'm happy to be picking it back up again. I'm also teaching my 3 Year old I'm not fluent but I can have a full conversion but watching a 3 year old sign is the most adorable thing in the world. She's starting to use sign language everyday now.

    ... And because ASL is easier for my brain to remember when I blank out. You know when you cross through a doorway and can't remember what you were going there for? Since I started learning ASL, I don't forget anymore because sometimes my hands remember the word even when my brain doesn't. (Usually it's the sign for 'drink', I always forget to drink water...)

    • @misse2013
      @misse2013 Před 4 lety +40

      Some do & some dont, just like some hearing people do and some don't.
      But deaf people have their own slang words and phrases in each group.
      More fun facts: just like we have different accents (New York, Alabama, Mexican) ...People sign with different accents so some groups of deaf people will do a sign slightly different or use a completely different sign for something. (Like some people say "bathroom", some say "restroom") They're both right, but if you ask one hearing person, they'll tell you one word and ask someone else and they'll tell you a totally different word. Same with Sign Language.
      The best thing to do is just learn from real people in your area and remain flexible to which signs each person or group of people choose to use.

    Hi Rochelle;
    I just discovered your channel recently, Oct 2020...
    I know a LOT of ASL vocab, took ASL 1 & 2 in college a LOOOONG TIME ago about 1989-1990.......
    Did great with A's & B's for my grades...in ASL ONE....
    BUT ASL TWO....Had a whole lot more to do with Comprehension, & I started getting C's & D's.... :(
    I have still kept up my love & passion for ASL & wishing I could better converse with deaf people.....
    Not that I run into any deaf people really, that much at all....
    But I'd like to help interpret should a need ever arise.
    PLUS I LOVE doing ASL to worship songs at church....
    ASL hand movements / signing is so beautiful, while my own physical voice SUCKS big time....
    I'm not even sure exactly, just how many signs I know at this point.....
    But, probably over 100 + or more I'm guessing.
    BUT, I just am having big time trouble with comprehension, if someone is signing back to me...
    Maybe it's too fast, I'm not sure....
    But I want to get over this hurdle, & conquer that issue, & I think your channel can help me, THANKS

    Who's here after watching the movie A Silent Voice?

    • @lil-hooves
      @lil-hooves Před 4 lety +3

      After watching that video I wanted to learn to sign, but realized I didn’t actually have a reason to learn it so I didn’t. Then a few months later I meet someone hard of hearing that also loved A silent voice. And now I’m here, actually trying to learn. :’) Hopefully I stick with it.

    As someone who learned sing language for nine years I think this video is a great starter. But also some signs for daily use as bathroom, hello, bye, help, breakfast, lunch, dinner etc..I assume the channel has more videos like that.

    Honestly idk why but I find sign language so interesting. I think it’s really cool that I can speak without even needing to talk and I am sure I can use this to help me get jobs since I’ll know another language. And your videos are the ones that have proved the most helpful! I can’t afford and don’t know of any classes so yea!

But really did you have to say that? You couldn’t just go on with you’re evening and ignore it I had no problem till I saw you’re comment it just seems illiterate and a bit blundering if you ask me, sorry but it’s true.
