Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. Greatest band on the planet, a 30 year history of growing together as men, they are so tight because they are organic, not copying anyone, not trying to be anyone, they are TooL, and in this world to be unique is unheard of, they are unique, it is the most cerebral band in existence, now that we have lost Neil, this is the greatest modern drummer alive...Danny Carey, and you must, absolutely must pay attention to the lyrics, the man not only has one of the most naturally powerful voices in music but is thee and I mean thee greatest lyricist of all time, the albums tell stories very much in the vein of Pink Floyd, If you follow through and investigate this band and their catalog it will be the greatest musical journey you have ever taken

Try Opeth before you make that ultimate proclamation.I would argue not that Opeth are the greatest band on the planet, but ANOTHER example of a unique band that is amazing. There are others as well, like Dream Theater to name another. These kinds of bands are absolute masters & virtuosos at their craft with a unique recognizable sound, but I just can't agree that any one of them is the "greatest" above the rest.

@@NicknLex If you do go for listening to the whole album, there's a few songs people typically combine because they're kind of meant to go together. "Parabol" and "Parabola" are practically one song so it could be worthwhile to listen to both at the same time. "Disposition", then "Reflection", then "Triad" is referred to often as the "Holy Trinity" and musically go together, but you can do them all seperately. Combined they do make for a very long song. :D

TOOL is a life lesson in Itself. Maynard has the lyrics so soulful,, purposeful, meaningful and straight to the heart and mind. Up front you have that moment when you realize there is only one drummer no additional percussions its all DC then massive guitar drop, then you get to maynards GO for 27 seconds (some length as Saturn returns FYI) followed by the most ruthless outro of all time. To enhance your Tool experience, have the lyrics available. The music is phenomenal on its own, however this band is like a car and each wheel is represented by a different band member. Not understanding the message or reading the lyrics is like driving a Ferrari with 3 wheels. What Maynard puts into the lyrics and the meanings (as hidden as they can sometimes be), really does have an impact on the initial impression for each song. Enjoy guys. The Tool Army is a family, welcome.

"respect the change" lol I LOVE that. This is definitely one of my top few songs (thought its an ever-changing list). Enjoy your journey! I always love seeing people become new Tool fans. Their sound has truely evolved from their first songs all the way through Fear Inoculum but it always "sounds" like Tool. One of the very few bands that have been able to change with each album and still maintain everything about them that fans love. I still love Sober just as I love Pneuma. I was never much of a drummer fan, always more a guitarist (which I love Adam) but watching Danny Carey just get more and more insane with each album has been a pure joy over the years. And Justin Chamberlin....I never feel like a specific bassist adds much to the sound of a band but his tone and the way he plays w/ Adam is just fantastic.

Don’t worry about the lyrics. Listening to their songs as a whole for your first time is the way to go. That way the lyrics don’t distract you from the rest of the song. Also, most of Tools lyrics are pretty deep/confusing and you may or may not understand them your first time listening. I think you are correct. TOOL was a bit ahead of the time coming out of the metal and new metal days. Also even though it was critically acclaimed they did not get a lot of radio play in most places due to the song lengths. But TOOL is timeless and just as good today.

Saw them on the Lateralus tour at the Garden in NYC right after 9/11 and it was a mind alternating experience and to this day is one of the best concerts I've ever witnessed. The number of police cars around the Garden, the atmosphere in the city, the feeling in the air that night had me on edge, in fact I was practically dragged to the show not being a huge fan of the band. Little did I know what I was going to see and hear. Let's just say I immediately went out and bought the album....the rest is Toolistory.

You don't have to apologize for not listening to Tool! I'm 40 and didn't get into them until I was in my early 30's. They are timeless. Always available for anyone to experience when they are ready to do so =)
Tool is all about improving yourself. Facing the dark, embracing the light.
