    Safari wins because of the integration with iCloud for me. I use Chrome for it's translating ability and also streaming sports... it definitely handles popups better on those type sites. Brave browser is another one that claims to be big on privacy, ads and tracking, but I haven't used it that much. I see below you said you don't fancy it. And I've still got Firefox hanging around too.
    Tip: If you use two different CZcams accounts you can use a different browser for each account. That way you're always signed into both and don't have to keep switching/signing in to your accounts on one browser.

    You have helped me somewhat, Gary, and for which I thank you. I pretty much knew Macs thoroughly, as that is what I used all my life as a typesetter and a desktop publisher and also at home. And you have always been interesting. I am a gung-ho unpaid - and unheralded - advocate all all things Mac … well, most things Mac. But when it comes to my browser, forget it. I'll use Safari once in a blue moon, which is to say, only when I have to, i.e., when something won’t load properly in Firefox, which is … duhh … once in a blue moon. To make it short and not so sweet, Safari stinks. From its abysmal interface to … well, just about everything else. I download a goodly amount of things I find that are relevant to my interests. Can't do that with Safari. And rather than bore you with the gory details, I'll just leave it at that. Have never used Chrome. Don’t have to. I've got Firefox.

    As much as I like the potential of Safari, it chokes on some websites. I use Brave, which is Chrome with the ad-tacking ripped out of it, and with a built-in ad-blocker, and takes all Chrome extensions. It's solid, fast and free. (There's an opt-in program to see some pre-screened ads in exchange for credits worth $$, but I've avoided that.) It was created by Brendan Eich the creator of Javasript and co-creator of the Mozilla Foundation, and the browser is privacy-focused. In fact the privacy extensions it can use makes it much more private than Safari. (Look up DecentralEyes and PixelBlock for just 2 examples.). I find it faster than Safari on the Mac, and its iOS app can be used as a drop-in replacement in iOS14.

  • @ivegasliveentertainmentinc4698

    In my opinion, web browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Chrome, while they're good in their own right, but in total hindsight, they're mainly resource eaters and they'll make your computer, let alone your web browsing experience become slower, especially, when you install so many add-ons (Opera & Chrome) and extensions (Firefox) onto your browser to personalize it.

      How does Brave do a better job at Privacy, specifically?
      As far as ads being blocked, sure. But what about the creators whose content you are viewing? You get the content for free that cost them time and money to create, and they get nothing. You OK with that? (And no, Brave's weird payment system is not a viable alternative).

    my main reason for not using Safari is its ad blocker extensions. Search for "free ad blocker" in the app store, and most of them will have a lot of votes of one star - ie: they don't work. So I've given up on Safari. The only time I'll use it now is to test a page loads if one of my FF plugins is blocking it from loading normally - mostly google/facebook blocking

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      You can't. Dark/Light for sites means the site itself is using a different style sheet when it detects Dark mode. Most sites don't even have that. If they do, then it would be nice if the site itself gave you the option. So check with the site itself, maybe.

    Several webpages consumes GB of data with Safari (3gb and more) is it due to incompatibility with Safari?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 2 lety

      Could just be that the pages are doing a lot and that you have a lot of memory available. Remember that macOS doesn't like to leave memory unused. If you have 3GB available and that will make the page a little faster or run more efficiently, then macOS will give it. If you are low on memory, then it will not give it so much. There is no point to unused memory.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před 3 lety +1

      Safari now requires that extensions go through the App Store so they are vetted and have higher security and privacy restrictions. This is a good thing, in most cases for most people. My guess is that the old OneNote extension was not like this so it no longer works. Since OneNote is already in the App Store, maybe you should request that Microsoft add a Safari extension to it.
