Didn't know it was for Nintendo at the time, but I recognized the scene immediately the first time I saw the commercial. Pretty cool.
Mario 3 to me represented the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s, and this commercial captured that feeling. We were past the decade of Pac-Man and we were entering a new generation of gaming which was spearheaded by Mario and Sonic.

Less about the game, it made me realize Nintendo dominated our world as kids, and it was a proud and good feeling knowing that. There's so many 8-bit tunes that just create a feeling of a time when there was genuine respect for great games like the beginning of Zelda 1, Contra, and Mega Man 2. The games today are mostly filler until the next installment of a franchise.

Nintendo single-handedly revived the home console market and Mario led the way.

Heck this must have been the first video game commercial I ever saw :D And multiple times I might add because it used to be on VHS of some cartoon I watched quite many times as kid. That being said as young kid I had no freaking clue what it was about and I actually never owned/wanted/asked Nintendo's console or SMB games....I started playing with PC around 1995/1996 and only later got into console gaming...and it was until 2013 or 2014 and Nintendo 3DS that I got my first Nintendo console.

If the Commercial was actually made in real life, it would take years to put together! These days a commercial like this is pretty tame, but at the time the idea of a video game even having a commercial was an oddity, much less one with implications of something this epic. The game may seem quaint now, but when it came out it was an event. I was a mere 7 years old, but I could remember it being in The Wizard and this commercial and thinking it was the event of a lifetime. In the end, it did actually live up to the expectations for me at least. A solid game still to this day.

These days a commercial like this is pretty tame, but at the time the idea of a video game even having a commercial was an oddity, much less one with implications of something this epic.
The game may seem quaint now, but when it came out it was an event. I was a mere 7 years old, but I could remember it being in The Wizard and this commercial and thinking it was the event of a lifetime.
In the end, it did actually live up to the expectations for me at least. A solid game still to this day.
